This place is classy and not too high in that they let me in. Scotland like a lot of countries over here are still recovering from the lock downs. We did need mask to enter but took them off at the table. Service was great and very friendly. Drinks came out fast and the food was incredible just look at the pictures. Definitely recommend this place.

Similar to the reviewer below, I live in NYC (not with the other reviewer!) although I'm Scottish so come home to visit family. I've been here a couple of times and both times it was really good. Everything was just a little more inventive than the usual fare you get in many Scottish restaurants. The tomato salad was particularly nice. Great wine list too. It's definitely a place you can return to over and over as the menu seems to change with the seasons.

This place was great. The food was really good and the ambiance was chill. Great service, friendly and polite. We had the Risotto, Steak, Burger, and Lamb, all were very delicious. The finally was toffee pudding - sooooo good. Great spirits.

Came here for lunch as we were in the area visiting the Eden brewery and had supported the chef at the time, Scott Davies, on Masterchef. The food was sublime, really quite special! The ambience, decor, staff, service - everything was absolute perfection. The only downside was that we didn't have time to linger, or make it back before Scott left to go to Skye. Definitely plan to return next time we are in the area.

Over cooked meat and tomatoes not ripe.

The manager and staff were very friendly. However, the food is pretty bad. I got a very overdone dry burger, It really didn't have any flavor. In my opinion skip this overrated tourist trap.

Food was good. Service good. Met one of the owner's. She was very nice. The bar next door is owned by them as well.

My Neice had reserved a table and paid a £5.00 deposit for each of us when we arrived our table had been given to another party with the proviso that when we arrived they would vacate it but they had just bought a round of drinks it would be rude to oust people. We got another smaller booth and ordered some drinks, my Sister does not drink alcohol so asked for a Mocktail list, the Server told us that they do not have a Mocktail list but do any Cocktail without alcohol. We had ordered Ruby Ruby Ruby, it had Edinburgh Rhubarb & Ginger Gin, Rhubarb bitters & Victorian Lemonade over crushed ice, my Siste was handed a bottle of Victorian Lemonade no crushed ice no Rhubarb bitters that was our last drink there. On top of the fact no live music lots of Hen Parties shrieking in a very small place sorry Jam Jar you are not for me.

It is next door to the True Pizza Company (same owners) and we went there for dinner first. Dundee is my home town and having not lived here for a few years, I was really pleased to see such a cool cosmopolitan place that Dundee has been crying out for. Table service makes it that wee bit special and the events manager asked us for feedback to see what we liked and wanted. They had a live band playing upstairs and they were really fantastic. The cocktail menu was really original and each time our drinks were brought to the table, there were squeaks of delight. Highly recommend this place.

As someone who truly loved little about Scotch, it was a wonderful way to taste and compare smoky vs peaty whiskeys. Fun. Our table was upstairs and we sat next to an open door which allows for fresh cool air. It was a warm day in Edinburgh. Our server was wonderful, patient and really helpful. Our choices were truly delicious. We started with the fish board, olives, and mushroom skewer. We loved them all. I enjoyed the cod main dish, while my wife finished the starters. The side of asparagus was also excellent. The mouse dessert was delicious but very rich, it's enough for 4 people. The cost of dinner was also totally reasonable. I recommend this place highly.

When we arrived at noon (opening time), the restaurant wasn't too busy. There is an impressive bar downstairs with many whiskies. We were led upstairs to the dining area. There is outdoor dining too that would be nice if the weather was warmer. Cool vibe, but it is kind of dark inside the stone walls. The menu is Scottish-focused with seasonal ingredients. We didn't want to overeat, so we decided to share a starter and a main. We got the Scottish venison fritters, which were ok. We enjoyed the pappardelle pasta (roast pumpkin and pecorino sauce, wild mushrooms, spinach, bacon and poppy seed crumb, crispy sage). It was flavorful and didn't feel too heavy. Staff were friendly and it was an enjoyable lunch.

Anyhow the OH persuaded me to give it a shot for a quick drink to shelter from the rain whilst we deliberated on a venue for dinner. I'm glad he did. In addition to a decent selection of craft beers, there's a hefty cocktail menu. I tried the Ginger Tom Collins & it hit the spot. Just the right amount of ginger to pack a punch but not enough to be overpowering. The OH had a pint of draft beer & seemed happy enough. The low ceiling means it gets noisy even if it's not packed. There was a stag do, 2 birthday parties and hen group as well as some other folks. It was only just possible to hold a convo at normal volume & be heard. There's a decent sized courtyard out the back too but it was too wet & cold to try it out. I'd definitely visit again but maybe on a week night when it might be a little less noisy.

Still a pretty new looking place that's bright, modern and very clean, with the weather being cold and raining outside I needed a hot drink to warm me up. I sat near the back area of the cafe where I could see a log burner on display, not sure if this was an ornament but could have done with being lit. I chose the large latte with a slice of the fruit loaf, service was quick but the young server placed my order at the opposite end of the table than in front of me, with the knife being placed blade towards me, I've been in the hospitality trade for over 25 years and this is the first time that I've seen this. In the time I was there that was a whole twenty minutes I was asked for my order twice even though I already placed it at the bar, the confusion was that the servers where not assigned a particular section and clearly didn't know what they where doing. The table of two next to me had the same problem. The atmosphere was 4/5 Food & drinks 4/5 Service was a disappointing 0/5

The space is nice - there's lots of room and although it got a lot busier quite quickly after we went in, there was nobody sitting really close to us and it didn't feel crowded. As an aside, I don't often comment on the toilets but I was actually really impressed with the toilets here, they were lovely and I liked the little notice board in the ladies' with local notices on it. The breakfast menu has a great selection, with everything from a full breakfast to pancakes to French toast to eggs benedict to simpler options. And it's really reasonable - french toast with bacon and maple syrup would only set you back £4.50, the full breakfast is under £8. I went for the eggs benedict with crispy bacon, Him Indoors went for the full breakfast. Both were good - not knockout fantastic (one day I'm going to write a book about my hunt for the best eggs benedict in Scotland), but really good and, considering the prices, seriously good value for money. We sat and had a second round of coffees afterwards (the coffee was lovely) and with breakfast and two drinks each for three people it came to around £35. The staff were super friendly, really chatty and the whole atmosphere is warm and welcoming. I'd like to go back to try their evening food as well to see how that compares, but I would definitely recommend it for a good breakfast at a great price.

The appetizer recommended by our server was the mussels. These were best mussels I've ever enjoyed. It was served with a sauce made with garlic, butter, milk, and onion. It's good enough to be a soup! Our sides included brocholini and halumi. Both were excellent. The brocholini was flavorful and crunchy with a nice sauce-though know that the sauce has ham in it.
