Attended PGI 2006-2009 aiming for PhD in Depth Psychology. Wound up taking a medical leave final…read moreyear, having to make up a class in 2010; never got on track with Dissertation so settled for an MA. I'll be clear: I came to Pacifica for the experience more than the degree and was not disappointed. There was a range of scholarship within my cohort ranging from the very studious and conscientious to those who invested minimal effort. I was in the middle and struggled to meet the workload while fully employed at a demanding job. 12 years following matriculation, I believe 4 students in my cohort of 20 finished their dissertation. (That may be well under the rate of the other cohort running concurrently with ours that was rumored to be more studious.) 6 people dropped out of my cohort during or after year one, a few more at year two. 11 or 12 finished the three years of study prior to dissertation time. Pacifica is not for everyone and mistakenly is too inclusive. I believe that has fueled problems for the University and some of its students. But I like that there is a quality program that works hard to be accessible to people who would be marginalized in nearly any other academic setting. I have read some very inflammatory statements from unhappy people who attribute dishonesty to the administration and faculty. That was never my experience. I was asked directly by a faculty member about 2008 if I had ever been told program completion would lead equate to licensure and I could honestly say I was never led or misled to believe anything like that. I believe some people may have had their own ideas. My belief is that Pacifica - then and now - markets to and caters to mature adults who want the transformative experience of engagement with other mature adults answering the creative call of Depth Psychology pioneers like Jung and Joseph Campbell. During my time there I had hands on guidance from faculty I respected --with an exception or two--and additional lectures and personal engagement with thought leaders like James Hillman and Marion Woodman. In these exchanges, I felt as though I could go directly to the source of contemporary writers on subjects important to me. Also, during my time then and subsequently I have seen Pacifica faculty deal patiently and kindly with students who had meltdowns over perceived failure to meet narcissistic or childish demands, and students who would not have gained entry to many other universities. And there are students I have know who received scholarship assistance from the University. Money makes the wheels turn, yes, but it is not all about money, either. It is true that PGI is for-profit; mostly it is run, as I understand it, as an employee profit sharing plan so that PGI continues to invest in its people. I believe that is quantitatively different from publicly traded for-profit universities that have an eye on short term gains. Even though I did not complete the degree I sought, and even though I paid full price of about 70K tuition and an additional 25 K in travel, I believe I received a valuable experience. After a 3-year break, I have returned for public programs, certificate programs, and other gatherings over the past five years. I would not say that I "drank the kool-ade", as another reviewer suggested; I would assert I have a different and more confident view of the integrity of staff and administration of PGI.

I have found the professors, administration and staff to be exceptionally mature and patient. It is a place for serious scholarship in the Depth field- a field of study that can be very challenging. Antioch also failed I think on admission to advise potential students how demanding the years of acquiring "hours" for full licensing would be,adding sometimes many years to the process of becoming a licensed therapist, after a couple years of rigorous study. At critical points Antioch University administratively failed, at significant points, in my path to licensure, to provide important letters and documents to the BBS, allowing progress toward licensure to be delayed by months and months. It was incredibly frustrating. There is an apparent at times near total disregard for students who are alumni, no longer the revenue focus. On two occasions I was left hanging with NO access to essential administrative support. Since you will be dependent on your university for three to six more years after graduation, possibly to even be able to continue your progress to final licensure, consider choosing a different program, a different university that has proper access to what you are likely to need. I wish I had.

The breath of interesting works is quite remarkable and this gallery offers a rich and rewarding start to your adventure on State Street. One of the featured artists, Richard Schloss may actually be painting behind the scenes in the gallery. How cool that? Some of his works feature the other worldly qualities of rainy conditions around the area. They are deeply interesting and atmospheric! The staff is super laid back, knowledgeable and very in tune with the artists featured in their gallery. This rich experience was further enhanced by the adorable dog that accompanies the owners to work and has run of the gallery. The paintings in this gallery were amazing and you could certainly build a room or house around some of them! State Street is an experience like no other and this Art Gallery made it even more so. A must stop for anyone in the area! -G

From the organized and open lay out of the gallery, to the friendly assistance by Mr. Rick Schloss and his wife, Julie - my experience at SB Fine Art was second to none. For those that are not familiar with Mr. Schloss's artistic style, he specializes and demonstrates mastery in depicting Seascapes. The way in which he captures natural light and reflections is truly stunning. One must see for themselves to appreciate his level of expertise. Additionally, what I also appreciate about SB Fine Art is that Mr. Schloss has opened his doors (and walls) to display artwork by local Artists of various styles. He continuously exhibits his love and support for the Santa Barbara community and we are very lucky to have him! For those looking to add exquisite artistic decor to their homes that embodies the natural beauty of Santa Barbara I highly recommend stopping by SB Fine Art.

I don't know what the best solution is for this but it's a mess in terms of behavior. Nobody follows the sauna rules and brings in newspapers, headphones, food, and one guy even put his gross soaked workout clothes over the heater to dry! Just absolutely abhorrent, inconsiderate behavior. One man recently brought a huge glass bottle inside to drink with the other day, and a few of us were worried what would happen if it fell off the bench. We're all barefoot, after all. Sure enough we all heard an explosion and lots of loud cursing (classy) from the locker room later, and it turns out he dropped it and it shattered all over the changing area floor. A worker gave the man a broom but didn't say anything about why the guy brought a huge glass juice bottle out in the first place. I wouldn't feel safe bringing my kid here if they're so laid back about broken glass on the ground. Not sure what the point is of having a huge rule list taped on the sauna door is when nobody enforces it. People also take super loud phone calls as well despite the no cell-phone sign. Watch your feet if you're in the men's locker room, cause with the rubber mats with holes in them, there's no way they cleaned all the shards out unless they removed the mats and cleaned. And we can all tell from the wet mud stains in between the gaps whether or not this will ever happen...

When I asked about switching days to make up my monthly classes and to credit that I had already paid for, he disqualified me and said he no longer wanted to work with me. I was genuinely hurt. I really wanted to learn and he made me feel like I was this terrible person for saying something that was misunderstood.
