The West Nile Street post office is a medium sized, quite busy branch but I think they manage it…read moreok. There are three sets of service desks: Self-service, business, travel and everything else. I forget how they labelled this one but it seemed to be for just regular non-business customers. There was a long queue when I arrived but they cleared it pretty quickly, I don't think I waited as much as five minutes to post my parcel. The staff member helping me was friendly and helpful enough although not very on the ball. He did try to sell me a credit card which I've not seen before but maybe this is a new thing to try to get the Post Office to make more money. They also have some stationary and bits and pieces on sale, things like jiffy bags and bubble wrap and they're advertising a deak at the moment where you can get cheap travel insurance when you get your travel money with them. It's handy enough if you're in the city centre but it's a little but chaotic and I suspect at peak times those queues get really long.

This is a typical combination post-office-cum-corner store deal, they sell cards, stationery, newspapers and small gifty things to distract you as you're waiting in the inevitable queue for the post office counters at the back. The staff seemed very cheery, even under the pressure of Christmas postings, and there was a good bit of banter going on between them, so it was difficult for anyone to get cross over the length of the queue. With all 5 counters on the go, things moved along pretty quickly anyway. Top tip - remember to go to the right when you enter as that's where the post office queue starts. It's difficult to see it behind the rack of cards and it is tempting to go down the left-hand side. But you'll be sorry if you do!

It isn't characterised by great customer service. It's somewhere between the wee sort of Post Office you get stuck onto a tobacconist up the back and an actual wee shop. I use it often enough through paranoia that my letters dont get where they're going with the new size/weight specification for letters, otherwise I doubt I would ever bother going.

Now though, the post office is franchised to the Spar that it co-locates with. Result being, it's the Spar staff who now man the post office counter. Which is great. They know what they're doing and they're just plain nice whilst they're doing it! Not much else to say really, it sells stamps, takes in packages and does most of the range of post office services. No bureau de change though.

Good customer service can put a spring in the step of an otherwise drab day. Nothing cheers you up like being faced with a complete stranger who goes over and above their job requirements to be kind and helpful, simply because they want to make your day that bit easier. I was on the receiving end of such service last week, when I visited the post office on St Vincent Street to send a hideously stressful parcel of very important documents halfway across the world by parcel force priority. I was served by a man called Colin who was helpful and knowledgeable way beyond the call of duty, even though it was near closing time on a Friday. He made the situation much less stressful as a result. So Colin, I wish to thank you for taking pride in your job. Not being able to post my parcel, or doing it incorrectly, would have resulted in disastrous consequences. You can go to bed at night knowing you really have made a difference.

The staff are kind of friendly. Not super friendly. But friendly enough. For large parcels there's a hatch to pop your stuff in, and they tend to be pretty efficient so there aren't too large queues. Note: if you have cash, you can pop out to the Royal Mail Delivery Centre off Ayr Rd to do you posting. But you might as well do it here.

I have to give high praise for the gentleman working the day we came in. Had to print off some…read moreryanair tickets as our airbnb host didn't have a printer (stupid ryanair fees!). Helped everybody in the queue, got our few items printed, but the icing on top of the cake: The zipper on my boots broke (unfixable, on holiday & only have a pair of running shoes as back up, these were my fav go to boots to wear w/ everything!) & this man not only directed us to the nearest shoe repair store, but he fixed me up (i.e. taped my boots so I could wear them around til I could get to said shoe repair store and/or a store to purchase new shoes ;-) I felt like Cinderella as the prince was fitting her glass slipper, the way he carefully taped my boots. This man went above & beyond his call of duty, thank you sir!

This is an excellent wee post office situated in Greenhills Shopping Centre, just next door to RS…read moreMcColls. As well as the Post Office counter there is a shop selling the usual cards and gifts and a passport photo machine. Sadly Greenhills Shopping Centre is lacking shops and life these days and the last two times I have been to the post office at lunch time there has been no queue which leads me to believe it won't be around for much longer. The staff are friendly enough and willing to help out where needed. My mail always gets where it's going so I have absolutely no complaints about the place.

I used to send a lot of parcels overseas…read more(around 20 a week, at a minimum) and my normal post office experience was huffy staff treating my like I was an inconvenience. Not here, I was always greeted with a smile! These days, I don't post as many parcels but the staff still know me by name, and they have good chat as well. They are really helpful with any banking questions you have as well, like yesterday I wasn't sure about banking a cheque but they were able to tell me exactly what to bring down with me (a deposit slip, I would never have thought of that!). The shop is small and has a big supply of chocolates as well as most of the newspapers, and some basics you might need for cooking dinner. I don't tend to go here to do shopping though, I just use the quick and friendly post office services as well as getting cash out sometimes.
