14 people in line and no one assisting customers!
Lisa G.

This has to be the worse post office in the city of Chicago. The line is 15 people long and the staff will work on everything else but helping customers. 20 minutes and only one customer taken care of so far. Avoid at all costs

Jeremy D.

The worst service ever! Never fails...slow and no idea what customer service is!! One person working the desk at the busiest time of the day?!? No wonder they are struggling!! Then when somebody in the back asks for help that ONE person leaves the customer at the desk to answer them...WHAT?!?!?

Line out the door. Middle of the day. One unnecessarily rude postal agent. It's no wonder the USPS is fledgling!

After years of going here, yes Barbara ain't gonna give you the fuzzy feeling if she sees there is a line or even if there isn't one because she is basically the only person running the place.

It's very peaceful and warm inside, using the self service kiosk was easy as well. The employees inside were quick to take the package after I printed out the label. I also had a serious incident on the escalator. It caught my skirt, and despite multiple attempts to stop it, the escalator continued running. I returned the next day to report the incident and was told the person responsible was not there. After being given the runaround, no one ever followed up or compensated me for the damage to my dress, nail, watch, and other belongings. The elevators are also raggedy and often seem poorly maintained, which does not inspire confidence in the overall safety and upkeep of the facility. It's disappointing to experience such poor customer service, especially since the post office operates with very little competition. I do have another post office that I prefer, but this location is open later, which is sometimes more convenient. The facility often looks deserted, although there has been security in the parking lot since it reopened. Another frustration is that the location sometimes closes earlier than posted hours or seems to close whenever it wants. Overall, every visit feels like an inconvenience.

Do you know why I got myself a PO box? Mail theft at my apartment is rampant. If you order a…read morepackage, expect it to get stolen. One time I ordered something for same-day delivery, and even though I got there, an hour and a half after it was delivered, that package was already gone. Yikes. Hence, I thought I'll them shipped to a government building where it should be pretty safe. Now, I do want to mention, Amazon *can* deliver to a Locker or a Whole Foods, but not everything. Further, anything sent to me my non-Amazon can't go in a locker or Whole Foods. Now, while items delivered to the PO box would be held in relative safety, me getting it is another story. At the start, I found that packages weren't getting to me, with the clerk telling me that if there's no yellow slip in the PO box, then it hasn't been processed yet. Turns out, no. When the PO box was rented, cardboard was not removed from the back of it, which apparently signified that that said PO box was unoccupied. After lots of frustration, we finally figured out that, "oh, wait a minute, that cardboard shouldn't be there!" Okay, well now we removed it. I think it should be on the up and up from here, right? Not really. Not too long ago, I had a package that was shown as delivered and I came two days and some hours later to pick it up. I look in my PO box, and there's nothing. No package, no yellow slip, nada. I go to the clerk who tells me that after it arrives in the building, it takes two to three days to get processed. Really? After mail is delivered to the post office, it has to take an additional couple of days to get sub-delivered to the very same post office? Sure, it's a big building, but that doesn't make sense. Two more things about this location that have me pulling my fair out: 1. While to be fair, during my visits it wasn't super busy, there's usually only one or two people working behind the counter. 2. This post office allegedly has their street addressing service. That means that your PO box comes with a real street address you can use in additional to the standard "PO Box 1234 Chicago, Illinois." However, all but one of the staff seemed to have no idea what I'm talking about and what that address would be, even though I later saw it on a poster in the PO box area. Finally, if there is one area where I want to give them some points, it's that their hours are truly fantastic. They are open seven days a week, and on working days until midnight. This is perfect for me to be able to pick up my PO box items after work, even if I have to work a little bit late or if I need to mail something on a Sunday. Oh yes, and I almost forgot. The US Postal Service is kind of like Google... you can't really avoid it, unless you're going to send Christmas cards by FedEx. Just so, whether it's personally or where my job touches postal matters, it seems severe delays are as rampant as theft at my building.

I only found out recently, as I had gone into the Starbucks to dispose of a coffee cup from another, nearby Starbucks (true story). There was one customer at the counter and another standing in line in front of me. The customer at the counter appeared to have a complex inquiry, but it was nothing that got heated. The customer standing in line was able to make use of one of the post office boxes mounted on the wall, so I catapulted right to the front. Despite the fact that there was only one postal worker at the counter, I was able to get my package mailed quickly and efficiently. I was provided a receipt with tracking info, and the package was delivered as promised. Definitely will be coming back here for routine postal matters so that I do not have to brave the Loop location that can at times be Kafkaesque.

Since I already had the pre-paid return label on the box, I was all set to drop it off at the UPS store, as the location I frequent also serves as a USPS pickup point (letters and boxes that are already labeled). When I walked by, I noticed this store was closed, but remembered that there is a post office in Streeterville (filed away from my earlier poke bowl expedition). Other than the fact that there were clipboard operatives outside from the Nature Conservancy, and being chided inside by the worker behind the counter when I was apparently not standing in the right spot, despite no one being ahead of me in line, I got through the experience unscathed. Given some of the security concerns around the blue letter boxes, it's good to know that there is lobby letter box for secured drop-offs. It also saved me a trip from going to the big post office downtown, a definite plus.
