I initially went to Dr. P for Botox to manage my TMJ 4 months ago. It worked fabulously and I have been noticing a definite slimming effect as well. I can not say enough GREAT things about Dr. Peter Petropolous!!! He came highly recommended by Suzy French owner of Helios (who is also great) for more intensive lasers than she does and she was right! He and his wonderful staff truly care about their patients. Dr. P explained each laser that he would be using on me in depth, what to expect afterwards and detailed instructions for before and after the procedures. I was amazed how thorough he was. I swelled more than usual...evidently I'm a "champion sweller" ...what was truly unexpected and so comforting is that he gave me his cell number and he checked in on me daily! In just every other place I've been to the injections and laser procedures are performed by a nurse or an esthetician. Not here. Dr Petropolous does it all himself (not the facials of course, for that he has his stuff). Dr. P, as he's universally known, has a rare combination of technical prowess, great bedside manner, and professional knowledge. The staff and facility are nice and clean. I went back in October as a bday gift to myself. I did a hydrafacial & dermaplanning. I've never had a hydrafacial but I have done microdermbrasions, chemical peels and also dermaplaning (somewhere else) so I'm not new to skincare services. When I got the dermaplaning done, it was done differently than what I'm used to and I felt it was a bit too harsh. I did mention to the esthetician that I felt it was rough and I felt overall the technique didn't seem right. I was only dealing with a few clogged pores,/very mild acne near my jaw/chin area. Also, it was my first time there and I do ask a lot of questions cause it's my face and one point she stopped what she was doing and said "Your asking me all these questions that I don't know the answer to" and it was an irritated tone. At the pt she was already doing stuff on my face so what am I supposed to say? I just said "ok, sorry I just ask a lot of questions" but not need to be rude. After, she told me to use glycolic pads and I bought some at Sephora but expressed that I don't think I do well with glycolic. I had the same appointment for the following month. In the meantime, my skin seemed fine at first, but then I started getting more acne and clogged pores and the glycolic pads that was recommended made it worse. When I went for my follow up, the esthetician looked at my skin and suggested we skipped the dermaplanning and just do the hydrafacial because she thinks the dermaplanning may have caused my breakouts. I told her that glycolic pads made it worse and she still suggested I try it again?!. I called a week after my second appointment and I said my face is not reacting well and they said to give it a break and never reached out after to see what's going on. Ever since I went to my first appointment, my skin hasn't been the same since, and in a negative way. I have little bumps/acne all over my forehead and cheeks. It's extremely frustrating because this was supposed to help me and not make my skin worse and I do believe it has to do with how the esthetician performed this. To make this better, when the acne heals, I am getting PIH after which in itself a different issue. I did this back in October and my skin is still trying to recover. Even when I went back to my regular esthetician (she doesn't perform hydrafacials) just to do a regular facial and see my skin , she even commented that she's never seen my face that clogged/bumpy and I've been going to her since 2014! It's been really upsetting because my skin is worse and I wasted all that money cause those services are not cheap! Most importantly, anyone who deals with acne and PIH knows how stressed and sad it can make you feel, especially when your face was better befreNot a happy client at all! Update February 2020 A few days after this post, I got a call from the doctor asking me how everything is going. I told him everything. While I do appreciate a call (even though it was 2months later), I'm still dealing with congestion. What would have been nice if they would have at least credited me back one session. I did a hydrafacial and dermaplanning and then hydrafacial again, which is pretty expensive. I don't want another service there so at least some credit would have been nice. I'm dealing with so much frustration, stress and embarrassment from my acne skin which was in WAY better condition pre these services. read more

Let me begin by first saying that I VERY rarely write reviews. My exceptional experiences at Potomac Medical Aesthetics, however, are enough to make an exception. I have been to med spas and even a couple plastic surgeons' offices in NY, Philly, Maryland, and the DC metro area. I'm a tough critic, so I don't say this lightly--Potomac Medical Aesthetics is a cut above the rest. Dr. Petropoulos is simply awesome. He has a knack for presenting complex medical principles and jargon in an accessible way. You can tell he's an experienced physician. He speaks from a place of authority with extensive knowledge of the procedures, and furthermore, the human body. Dr. P is also personable, funny, and makes you feel comfortable. It's also obvious that he cares about the science involved. Mentions of reading about the latest research are a subtle reminder of his dedication. He's honest, fair, and generous. He takes his time and is very thorough. He will also happily answer any questions. You can tell that he understands the importance of educating his patients. Rather than try to "sell" you on anything, Dr. P gives you an honest, comprehensive assessment during consultations. He's upfront about the expectations you should have. Dr. P gave me recommendations based on what suited my body in particular. He always considered how I could get the most bang for my buck. He made a phenomenal recommendation (treating an area that would have a particular impact on my look). I went with his recommendation-- WOW, was he right! It's changed the look of my face. My mom has tagged along with me for my treatments. Dr. P was kind enough to buy both my mom and I lunch when I had a series of treatments that lasted through the afternoon. Long story short: you're in good hands as his patient. I would be remiss not to mention an absolute game-changer of a product that Dr. P introduced me to. It's called "TransFORM Body Treatment with TriHex Technology" by Alastin Skincare. It has definitely enhanced the results of my treatments--which I had amazing results from as is--to a startling degree. After ONE application, I started to see an improvement in my skin. I have tried countless beauty products from drug store brands to the luxury brands. In terms of efficacy this product almost seems too good to be true. It improves the appearance and firmness of the skin right before your eyes. It's worth every penny. The team there is amazing. As a patient/consumer you feel as if the staff is an asset to you--and they are. They all genuinely care about your experience, your comfort, and your results. Patricia has mainly handled correspondence, scheduling, and payment. She is friendly, detailed-oriented, and organized. She also proactively considers things like scheduling and rewards programs from the patient's perspective. Sabine is also great. She gave me a hydra facial and assisted Dr. P during the majority of my treatments. She is knowledgeable, kind, and very attentive. She anticipates your needs and makes sure you're comfortable. I met Dr. P's wife (Melissa), who is a CRNP, when she assisted during my first round of treatments. She's super nice. To give an example about the level of care they strive to offer...when I returned about a week later to finish my treatments Melissa had made a point to order a certain tea I had previously asked about. This is a perfect illustration of the level of attentiveness you can expect there. I had gotten the same non-invasive treatment done at very reputable plastic surgeon's office several years ago. My experience at Potomac Medical Aesthetics has been superior in every way--from the consultation to the treatment itself to the results. I drive about an hour to get there (usually more with traffic), but it's totally worth it. I can't enough positive things about Dr. Petropoulos and his team.
