Shelley and her staff worked incredibly hard to create a beautiful setting- soft draped fabric along the ceiling, twinkling lights and lush greenery all around. It felt like spring, it was warm, intimate and absolutely perfect for a bridal shower (or baby shower, birthday party, etc). They were so accommodating and easy to work with. They welcomed our ideas for decorations and games and gave us the flexibility to make the event feel personal and special for our guest of honor. Shelley was an excellent communicator and as the event drew closer she worked with me on the specific menu, number of tables/chairs, linens and more. I never felt stressed and knew the party would be handled perfectly and we were in good hands. The owner and her staff prepared all the delicious brunch food, it was a lovely spread with a large variety to please every guest. A good time was had by all and our bride-to-be felt thoroughly celebrated and special in this lovely setting. If you are looking for a unique, cozy and beautifully styled venue - especially in the winter months, I highly recommend hosting an event here. On a random day trip around the islands, we decided to spend a day in Tiverton area and just see…read morewhere the day took us. After a delicious cone of ice cream at Gray's, we ended up down the street and saw this gorgeous orchard on the left and decided we needed to explore. Right off the bat I loved the crushed shell driveway, and thought it was both eco-friendly, and a super beautiful nautical nod. The orchards were gorgeous, and we bought the small bag to go pick our winners. After tromping through the rows of apples, we also picked up some fresh pumpkins to cook, and some amazing smelling cantaloupe. Prices were insane, I think the pumpkin was a couple dollars, and the melon was another dollar or two, and the bag of apples was $20? We had such a great time at this farm, and really enjoyed our impromptu pre-fall farm day. Once home, we made a French browned butter apple cobbler, and cubed the melon immediately. The extra apples were chopped and frozen for the next food project, and the pumpkin will be a pecan shortbread pumpkin pie. Amazing farm, great prices, and delicious produce. Will definitely be coming back!

If they are not finding buyers, they will lower their pricing expectations. --Down side alert--- So I must make my other comments though. They do charge 3$/person to go in. Of course they tell you it is a donation, but you are not getting in with out paying. So it is going to a good cause I am sure I hear you saying. Maybe, but it is also money you can no longer spend inside with the people selling their wares and crafts. And when you have to pay for a family of 4 or 5, it eats into the out flow. Lastly, this is a great venue and a wonderful opportunity to gussy up that side of Garden City. Rumor had it though that they are about to tear down the building and put up a new Walmart. This festival was no different. I'm guessing there were about 50 vendors varying from local honey and soaps to jewelry, woodworking, and painting. With the addition of some food stalls and Big Nazo, this was a great way to end the summer. I actually found that the artists at this festival were more reasonably priced than other similar festivals in the Providence or Boston area. I do wish that Festival Fete kept their website up to date. As of today the website has the poster from last year which caused confusion, as the festival happened on the 3rd last year instead of this year, where it was the 1st & 2nd. I hope that people don't show up tomorrow hoping to see some art. They will be disappointed. As it was, we almost turned around when I was checking the website for the address thinking that we were a day early. Luckily my friend took the time to check out their facebook page to see that it was really today.

Haffenreffer is a tiny and FREE museum of anthropology on Brown's campus that my friend and I…read morevisited during our weekend of exploring Providence and Newport. When we visited, they had some very interesting exhibits. The one that interested me the most was "Sacred is Sacred: The Art of Protecting Bears Ears." It was very interesting and well-displayed. Why only three stars for this interesting and free museum? Well, it's tiny. It's essentially a single room. And I would think (given the size) that the likelihood of someone enjoying the museum is very dependent on the quality of the exhibits at the time of the visit. But it's free - so if you're walking around Brown, stop in! You never know what you'll find!

I had no idea the Nature Lab even existed until I wandered in one day. This is definitely a hidden…read moregem! The Nature Lab is a repository of plants, animals, and minerals, both alive and dead, which was started as a resource for RISD students. They have a pretty amazing collection, and anyone can go in and check it all out. A nonexhaustive list of cool stuff in there: trilobite fossils, live snakes and birds, at least a hundred stuffed animals, a mummified cat head, and hoards of bones and skulls - including real human skeletons. They have a lot of space to draw if that's your thing. My only wish is that more stuff was identified - the material in the lab obviously isn't rigorously curated. It could be a great resource for scientists if it were!
