Satterthwaites was founded one hundred years ago in Liverpool, it has remained a Liverpool based store but popularity has encouraged growth in the area and I think there are around six further stores, four in the Crosby/ Waterloo area. Satterthwaites are extremely popular in the area and well known amongst non-locals too! The food is extremely good, and of course the type of food sold- stodgy savouries: pies; pasties; sausage rolls, and cakes- is irresitable and undeniably popular generally, however I think the popularity of this store is through the unmistakeable element of tradition Satterthwaites has managed to preserve; the cakes are classics: bavarian slices, carrot cakes, meringues, while the old fashioned uniforms are unique to Satterthwaites: hair nets and hats are worn as well as gloves which is nice to see. The staff are always very sociable and friendly and the food is really satisfying: tasty, filling, and reasonably priced. Satterthwaites offer catering services also: finger buffets, cake selections and even fruit platters. This is a popular caterers in the area hired for weddings and all sorts of parties.

The staff are dressed in old fashioned uniforms with hairnets, and use gloves when preparing your order. They are very friendly and chatty and make you feel very welcome.

The Seaside Cafe looked like a family-friendly place - this was important with two toddlers! They not only looked after us superbly, the food was extremely good and very reasonably priced - for a whole family to eat heartily for under fifty pounds struck me as a bargain. The fish and chips was well cooked and very tasty - this was no mean feat as my wife and I spent a week in Whitby recently, where we watched the catches come in then be cooked! The alternatives were basic but equally tasty and all hand-cooked (no "chicken ding" here!). All-in-all, I would recommend this to anyone who wants a simple, well-cooked meal that doesn't cost the earth and in friendly surroundings.

Although Bolton cente has a whopping four branches of Greenhalghs this patricular branch is one of the two smaller ones yet still has a decent window display of many mouthwatering cakes etc and a great selection of goods inside. Inside you can buy pretty much what you'd expect from hot sausage rolls and pasties to cakes and cookies as well as sandwiches and drinks. they also offer meal deals etc for adults and kids alike which are always worth considering to make it that bit cheaper. The staff are always friendly and willing and there is a general relaxed atmosphere even when it's heaving with customers. The products themselves are extremely tasty if not a little more expensive then it's competitors Greggs.

The cake selection in here is fantastc. I love the little bob the builder cakes and biscuits they sometimes do for the little ones. It gets very busy in here around lunch time but that is to be expected. Sometimes the staff get your order wrong when it's busy! I think if memory serves me right hampsons do discounts for students. All of the sandwiches, pastries and cakes are always very fresh. I'm not suer if they actually bake them themselves though.

The store that caught my attention was the Stretford Mall shop, and I decided to go there since 2 pasties for £1 seemed very reasonable. Greggs are usually £1.85 for 2 pasties, so it at least 85% cheaper than it's rival. The selection of pasties seemed very impressive, better than greggs. And 2 loafs for £1 seemed another great steal. Hot drinks are 50p each and cakes are £1, again great value all rounded to a pound or less. Overall great value for money, good selection and quality that doesn't seem to differ with greggs. It caters for everyone, not just those on a budget, like it very much!
