Needless to say we then found out that NO ROOMS were booked and NO MONEY was returned to us so we are now out of thousands of euros. The hotel has refused to assist even though it is clear and we have proof that a member of the staff diverted emails sent to their email address listed online and took the sum. We even spoke to this member of staff on the phone via their directly line when booking and were assured. You would think that if something happened on your property to your honest clients you would want to find a solution but instead we were harassed, shouted at, abused and hung up on. The same happened when we escalated the matter to the hotel owners. Maybe they are all in on the scam. A police report is filed and next steps are being taken. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE if you want to actually receive a service for your hard earned dime.

What we didn't expect was for the little cheap hotel we chose to be so very good. The hotel is in a little town called Montenegro, just outside of Faro. What this meant was that we needed to take a shuttle bus (provided for free by the hotel) if we wanted to go to Faro centre, the beach or the airport. When the shuttle bus times didn't suit us we caught one of the local proximo buses (when we visited that seemed to cost €2.20 for a single adult ticket anywhere). Being outside the main town wasn't a problem and if anything was quite nice. Montenegro is quieter and less touristy (although Faro is distinctly un-touristy itself) and the hotel was quiet. Breakfast is included and if you need to leave very early one morning they will prepare you a breakfast package to take with you. The main breakfast is a buffet with rolls, croissants, scrambled eggs, sausages, cheese, ham, sliced bread for toast, cereals, fruits, jams, juices, tea and coffee. We enjoyed sitting by the pool (not enormous, but certainly big enough and we often had it to ourselves) sunbathing, reading and drinking sangria from the very reasonable bar. The bar also serves a good range of other drinks until 1am and bar snacks until 11pm. The room was small-ish, but large enough and the bathroom was lovely. Everything was very clean, though perhaps the room could have used a new carpet or a lick of paint. For our needs, more or less just a comfortable place to sleep and leave our belongings when we weren't at the beach, it was perfect. Our only complaint was the lack of working safe in the room, but the staff were happy to keep valuables for us behind the front desk. I would definitely visit this hotel again if I decided to re-visit Faro.

Plus they don't have designated seating areas and we had to sit next to screaming babies and kids that were running around. Then you have the wait staff who look like they are unhappy and underpaid and don't appropriately bus the tables. Lastly, the waitress even told us if we want hot water to go to the microwave to heat it. Not a communication problem because two family members are fluent in Spanish as their native language!!! Horrible waitstaff service! To the manager, please don't say you look forward to making our stay better upon our next visit because that won't happen! We will ensure our friends and family know your properties are only about the money and not the guest. Can't wait to checkout in the morning and go to a hotel that wants their guest to feel welcomed and appreciated. Shame on your company for not having a better policy with a guaranteed nice stay and for holding us hostage to stay at your facility and forced to eat your mediocre food that is cold and undercooked with grumpy staff! Good but not spectacular, especially for the price. There were some bumps in service and the food…read morethat give the impression of a hotel running during training season rather than at its peak. We tried all of the restaurants during our stay: Gusto (with a Michelin star); Oliveria for breakfast and dinner; and the Nest for cocktails and a dessert. Of the three, Oliveria was the weakest. The oysters we got one night were prepared differently - I thought you're supposed to shuck the entire oyster so the whole thing slides off cleanly, while ours were prepared in a way that left the round, scallop-looking part (the adductor muscle) still attached to the shell and made eating it messy. They also didn't give us any tiny forks to use to loosen the oyster. (Although now that I've done more research, apparently the French style of shucking oysters does leave the adductor muscle on. Leaving it attached apparently demonstrates that the oyster was shucked fresh to order, rather than pre-shucked. But if an oyster is prepared this way, you at least get a small cocktail fork to cut it loose yourself. Sorry for the thesis on oyster shucking styles!) My burger - I needed a bit of a breather from seafood at that point - was also a bit of a mess. Comically massive in size with a very stale bun and the patty tasted under-seasoned, requiring a lot of ketchup and mustard. That said, the banoffee pie we ordered from the Nest was one of the best desserts I've tried in recent memory. Room was beautiful, with ample space and comfortable bedding. That said, there was only a sliding door between the bed and the bathroom area so I wouldn't pick that for a family. Location was a little isolated, with some super high-end shops across the street, but if you want to eat somewhere else, you're going to need to drive or grab a Bolt. It's about 40 minutes from the Benagil caves, an hour from Lagos, and 20-25 minutes from the Faro airport depending on traffic. Bonus points for the free valet service, which was a god-send since we rented a car to explore the Algarve.

I believe the main difference boils down to resort hotel vs city hotel, bc resort hotels typically don't have an exec lounge, although some do for VIPs (if your room is located in the VIP corridor, tower, etc.) Overall, an excellent stay! Conrad Algarve opened in Sept 2012 and apparently was the first Conrad to open in Europe. After 12+ years, it appears most of the property is still very well maintained, and most (but def not all) staff were very friendly. Really excellent location to go out and explore Faro and other medieval towns along the Algarve…read morecoast. Staff is super friendly, they speak English, it was quiet and the pools were nice. We observed (but did not play golf) exceptional golf courses, scenic and impeccably maintained. They have private access to a huge beautiful ocean beach, and extensive boardwalk system on which to walk or ride a bicycle. We rented a bicycle on site and burned a few thousand calories exploring the wonderful surroundings. They have a nice cafe, small market, and excellent dinning restaurant on the premises as well. The only downside was the frequent airplane noise as the location isn't far from the Faro airport. So it's convenient and close - but you hear the jets. Overall we loved it and will be back.

We were impressed by the connected restaurant and bar but the food again was just good, not great. One of our steaks came horribly overcooked but otherwise the soups and small plates were where we were most pleased. The accessibility to the town was nice and they had some beautiful walking grounds connected. Our main complaint was the cleanliness, we saw cockroaches throughout the indoor pool area, in the steam spa, and in the hallways. We notified staff but were not offered any compensation or extra kindness, just assured the staff would look into it. The front desk was constantly helpful which is why my rating is as high as it is. I would stay again perhaps for a night or two, but a deep clean of this place is definitely needed. The carpet throughout had stains and spotting and we noticed a fair amount of dust on their art and other amenities as well. On the plus side, the breakfast buffet was plentiful and changed every day. They had a wide variety of cold and hot food with sweet and savory options both available with beverages to pair including tea, coffee, fresh juices, and wine.

We called Expedia, and they gave permission to refund the room for 1 night - but the manager would NOT refund us or even credit us...lying to our face and saying it was Expedia's fault even though I was literally on the phone with Expedia giving us a refund through the hotel. Also they CLAIM that it's a short walk to downtown historic Tavira - it is NOT! it's over 5 miles to town. Misleading + Lazy Rude Staff = NO RECOMMENDATION!
