Unfortunately you will pay top dollar & should also be prepared to wait a while. The staff are pretty laid back & when there's a breakfast or lunch rush, they don't seem to have any systems in place to cope. We have had a hot freshly cooked meal arrive at our table before a simple croissant from the counter! Having said that, if you don't mind waiting & paying, the food that we have eaten as well as seen served at other tables is pretty delicious - definitely one of Gisborne's better establishments.

Cafe 35 was one of our most satisfying surprises and it made for an interesting stop as well as a delicious meal. You can choose to eat inside or out in this newly finished "cafe" which seems to serve as everything from a truck stop with take out to a pub to a friendly breakfast joint. The owners poured their hearts into Cafe 35 with cast concrete counters and funky "found" wood for both furniture and decoration. We came across Cafe 35 in a search for a late breakfast and were rewarded with a friendly smile and welcoming hospitality. We shared a plate of Paua (Abalone) fritters and fries topped with a pair of perfect eggs New Zealand style and a fresh salad on the side. The meal was excellent and the coffee was good and we even took away a Paua meat pie away for a snack later in the day. Cafe 35 was a gem on a gorgeous trip around the East Cape, I hope they succeed and thrive as they add a dimension that we didn't find anywhere else in the region.

As a heads up, these goods are not cheap. They range from about $15-25 for a small salad or sandwich. The service was average and the location is great! The shop is fun to explore before or after eating. If I lived in Napier, I would absolutely treat myself to this more often.

For me....the wine list was local and VERY good, albeit no 'aged' wines. Solution: We got permission to BUY their YOUNG wine and sub in OUR AGED to perfection version from the same vintner, Peter Robertson, and his BROOKFIELDs HILLSIDE syrah = marvelous.
