A typical California farmers market with 60% fresh grown and local food, 30% arts & crafts and 10%…read morefood booth/trucks. This dynamic is welcomed to most people because they get to socialize and buy more then just fresh fruits and veggies. The only thing I am critical about is the organization of the booth space that allows the flow of people in better safety and comfort. I assume there was some store front push back that wanted 100% of there sidewalk available and clear surfing the market but what that has done has jammed too many people in what is obviously a "narrow space" to walk. It would be a fair and SAFE compromise to use 50% of the sidewalks on each side and adjust back the venders booths giving people 5 feet more in the middle to walk around. It would be easier to do this rather then assume or ask people to not stand around creating bottlenecks or be considerate of others and move like a car on a road. Expect to drive around for parking if you are not local enough to walk to the event and crowding due to the popular area it is in, live music, fresh foods and drinks as well as plenty of unique crafts and clothing.

I feel like a lot of booths were from palm desert, so not necessarily local businesses from encinitas, and i felt like there were not a lot of arts n crafts n stuff like i was expecting. The first year obviously has it's hitches, but for the most part, everything ran smoothly. The parade started at Mt. Carmel High School and went for a mile, ending by the shopping Vons/Rite Aid shopping center. The traffic in the area was horrible, but SDPD did it's best to maneuver and direct cars accordingly. Definitely the potential to have more participants in next years parade. I walked with my fiancee's group in the parade representing Councilmember Cate. We waved and handing out lollipops and info on city information to onlookers of the parade. Very well received. The parade was 1 mile long and we walked the route. It was cool seeing all the PQ residents come out and support! At the end we walked through the booths, and surprisingly the there were over 100+ booths to look. My fiancee had a booth by the stage so we hung out there before the program at the stage started. Volunteer organizations and kids got awards for their outstanding community service. So cool they all got recognized on stage for their community contributions. Tons of booth with food, community organizations, rides, info booths - all worthwhile to come and visit this fiesta. I can only imagine it'll only get bigger! Kudos PQ for having a great event!

We came early so there was plenty of parking still, but it can be hard navigating with all of the people trying to get in and out. Next time I think I will park in the church and take the shuttle bus and see if that is better. I like that this Renaissance Fair is big but not too big. Sometimes too big can get overwhelming, and you don't get to see everything. This one is a really good size and there are a lot of things to see and do, and tons of vendors. I will say a lot of the booths were very expensive for their Wares. However I don't have much to compare it to, so this may be standard for Renaissance Fair merchants and goods. I will say I have seen some very beautiful items, some of which definitely look like they have put a lot of work into. There were several places inside for food, and surprisingly the prices weren't extremely terrible, and the food was pretty good. I had Carnitas fries, and fried zucchini, both of which were pretty good. I loved seeing everyone dressed up, and putting so much effort into these elaborate costumes. There are activities and entertainment as well. The actors really get into character, and we got to see the procession with the queen in tow. Since it was my first time I didn't do a lot of the activities, but they did have some games, archery, Etc. We did stop inside the Beer Garden, which had some entertainment that was very funny. It definitely was more adult-oriented in there, which makes sense. They had people singing funny songs, and they held two contests while we were there, one for the men and one for the women. We were there for several hours, and if you do a lot of the activities I could see you easily spending the whole day here. It's a lot of walking so we're comfortable shoes. I enjoyed myself, and think I would do this again, as be participate in more of the activities.

But back to the review, please take time to go on the first week of May! There was around 500 vendors, I might be wrong but it was about six blocks full of fun things to be found. If you love jewelry, small business finds, and food, it's definitely something I will be coming back for. I can't wait to go next year and replenish my earring collection. Recently started to collect them! We also had the most amazing freakin cake!!!! OMGAH!!!! I promise, if you like a cake that isn't dry, even a coffee cake that isn't dry, this company is worth ordering from! I am going to be ordering some yummy gifts for people in the future. It's called Dolce Monachelli's they do have a website and it's the best Bundt cake you will ever have. They have a cute sampler you can always get as a gift bc I will be gifting with these cakes! I think this is the best cake I've ever had! Sorry I don't have picks of the cake lol it was just too good and I forgot.

While the beer gardens require admission, the majority of the festival is free and open to the public. We attended the wiener dog races for the first time this year and they were hysterical! There were 4 to 6 dogs per heat and then they had a final round. Please note, these were not professional racing dogs, just San Diego's finest dachshund dog volunteers from families around town. One family member would release the dog at the starting line and the rest of the family would be at the finish line cheering them on. Some dogs ran straight across to their families really fast, others took their time, barked at each other, and sometimes ran back to the starting line! It was so cute! There was also a planking contest by the wiener dog races, and people have to hold plank with wiener dog stuffed animal on their back. No surprise, some of the beefiest guys dropped first, and for the session I watched a wiry young woman took the gold at holding plank nearly 12 minutes! The music on the main stage was great, we especially enjoyed the traditional German music and Jimmy's Buffet. There's so many creative booths with craft items, and all different types of food to satisfy every craving. The volunteers and security team were all excellent and I sincerely appreciated their efforts. We didn't go on the Ferris wheel, but love that they have some ride options as well. Can't wait till next year's Oktoberfest!
