A nice spot with an amazing view. There are two large parking areas which do suggest that it has a lot going on but in early September, there was only one other person here! The view over the valley is tremendous. There is a picnic pavilion and a marker which points out a local tragedy. It reads, "Off Young's Monument Rd. (.3M) is grave site of Henry & Lucinda Young. A Confed. militiaman or sympathizer, he was killed by Union troops nearby on 8 Sept. 1861. Details of Young's life and death are scant and confused, symbolizing divided loyalties, tragic times and enduring saga of Civil War in WV, when state was pitted against state and brother against brother. We actually passed this overlook on your way north to Pittsburgh and made a point to stop on the way back. Super easy to turn into no matter what side of the highway you're on. There were several trash cans in the parking area and it was nice to see they appeared to be used as I didn't notice litter. There was a small covering in the middle with a table if you choose to sit there's we sat on the edge of the lot next to the overlook and enjoyed our leftover sandwiches. Gorgeous view in WV. Off either side of rt 19. There's plenty of parking, car and truck. No facilities. The amount of parking makes it seem like it's busy at other times of the year. read more
