I am not the biggest fan of hot yoga, but I do like to practice here every once in awhile. Every class leaves me feeling like I got a great workout and cleared my mind. When you walk into this location, you have to walk up a set of stairs to get to the actual studio. If you are wearing Ugg boots or black flip flops, you will want to find some way to mark your pair---both options seem to be part of the uniform here so they are easy to mix up on your way in and out. You can easily check into class on the iPad and then proceed back to the studio to get ready. This is hot yoga so be prepared with a towel. Don't be one of those folks who leaves a puddle behind. There are water fountains available (although I've found the water to not be very cold... maybe it's just that the studio is so hot.. IDK) and a bathroom for changing. There are also a bunch of cubbies where you can store your stuff during class (although there are no locks so store at your own risk). The yoga sequence itself it always the same, but the amount of time varies (45, 60, and 75). There is also a PYB basics class which I highly recommend (even to experienced practitioners since it really breaks down each pose in the sequence). There is also usually contemporary music during class and during savasana so if you are looking for a more silent/quiet practice this might not be what you are looking for. There are appropriate props available (e.g, straps, blocks) in case you don't have or forget to bring your own. Karma class takes place on Saturday at 2 PM. Pay what you can! read more

Growing up I played high impact sports such as basketball and volleyball. I used to scoff when people told me they did yoga to work out. Oh, you stretch side to side? Must be soooo tough. I was prodded by a girlfriend to join her at a PYB class about three years ago. I went, slightly nervous because I had never tried it, and slightly intimidated by the heated room. I was expecting my experience to confirm my preconceived notion that yoga isn't a "workout." My goodness, I was so wrong. The studio is heated to around 90-95 degrees, which is just enough to loosen your muscles and help you get a good sweat going. The instructors are so friendly and upbeat, truly pushing you to do your best. And the workout is UNBELIEVABLE. After my first class I couldn't believe how sore I was for two days afterward! Truly a workout for muscles I didn't even know existed. The best part about these classes is you go at your own pace. Nobody is forcing you into a headstand if you (like me) aren't there yet. You challenge yourself, and push yourself to your own limits. Nobody is judging you, and this is reinforced throughout the class. These workouts are mind, body, and soul. For a different experience, or to step outside your own comfort zone and challenge yourself, PYB is definitely the top tier place in Buffalo. read more

I have been going to this yoga studio for over 3 years. I love it! Each instructor has their own style but most of it is similar enough you can feel like you know what you are doing. When you go to a class you never regret going. It is heated to 90 degrees but it makes you more flexible and less likely to get injured. I love that this studio is strength based. So many people think yoga is easy, but you build strength and make physical progress. I think the only time I was unhappy with a class is when they decided to burn incense which made my allergies go crazy. But overall I love this studio and the instructors! read more

I was only in town for 2.5 days but I needed my yoga fix for PT and mental clarity. I took the Power Hour class at Power Yoga taught by Brendan and had such a great experience that I returned, but to the Main Street location to try a different class before leaving town. This time I took the Power Yoga class by Audrey. It was one of my top three fav yoga classes ever. (I have taken classes at studios all over the US and in Vancouver, BC.) Audrey has a great spunky energy and it was an excellent challenging 75-minute flow. The perfect length! She was knowledgeable, genuinely welcoming, and used fun music. Mats are available for rent and mat towels. I cannot wait to return the next time I am in Buffalo. I had my first experience of power yoga ever this past Saturday. Rob was the instructor and can we say I'm addicted! It was fast paced but enough where everyone had time to move into positions. He pushed you to hold positions while your muscles were shaking but always in an encouraging empowering way! I tried my first inversions after class. yes yoga is for "you" but I didn't want to be embarrassed during class trying them. I've done Bikram for over a year and have tried other yoga classes but Power Yoga is my happy place! You'll be sore the next day my abs ached when I was laughing for two days but that's the sign of a good workout! Plenty of parking, and everyone was so friendly! I suppose I've become a yoga snob (isn't that an oxymoron?) having lived and practiced in the Pittsburgh area for 5 years. I was very excited to find Buffalo Power Yoga on Yelp while I was visiting my parents. The website is beautifully done explaining it is a Baptiste style studio (my favorite), so I was super excited to try this place. The experience was just... blah. Full of super young girls (not that there's anything wrong with that, I'd like to consider myself still to be a "young" girl at the age of 29) who were packed into an extremely small studio. I think the low ceiling height was the biggest negative in terms of atmosphere. Additionally, I don't know how this is considered "hot" yoga when the thermostat was only kept at 85 degrees! I guess I'm just used to 92-95 degrees plus humidifiers galore for a true hot yoga experience. The instructor was obviously knowledgeable and advanced in her studies, but I didn't feel any kind of connection or sense that she was passionate about teaching to others. Just my humble opinion, but it seemed as if she was more interested in prancing around the room, ego in full bloom. read more

This is a hot yoga studio that teaches Baptiste power vinyasa flow. I love this style of yoga! It is a vigorous workout that also gives you the benefits of meditation. This studio is a wonderful addition to the yoga offerings in Buffalo. I believe this is the only one that offers Baptiste power yoga, which is different than the Bikram-style hot yoga taught at other places. The teachers are great. They have a nice mix of humor, playfulness, and spiritualism. They are challenging without being too aggressive. They give really good instruction and adjustments, and help to create great energy in the room. I would have given them 5 stars, but there are a few problems with their current physical space. They are becoming more popular so it is extremely crowded. They don't have a separate entrance area so you have to wait outside before class starts. The heater is really noisy and very humid. Parking can be a little tight. The good news is that they are planning to move to another studio within walking distance in late February/early March. The new studio will be four times larger and has a separate entrance area. They are also customizing the heating system so they can better control the humidity. I'm really looking forward to the new space and seeing them grow their business. I will update my review when they move to the new space. I'm so excited to have found this place. I love PYB! I always leave feeling great after class: physically and mentally. The teachers are wonderful, and super approachable and friendly if you have any questions. It is a great community to be a part of. They have their own app which is easy to navigate, and super easy to check which classes are happening when. Jamie and Susan have created an amazing and inspiring Yoga space for the community. It's the teacher that really makes the class, and all the instructors at Power Yoga Buffalo bring an energizing, positive, and life-affirming attitude every time I practice there. To be clear, this isn't a relaxing style of Yoga. Baptiste Power Yoga is a vigorous work-out in a hot room, so be prepared to sweat a bucket. Don't forget your water and towel(s)! That said, the instructors cue for modifications that are appropriate even for beginners. Assistants are sometimes available in class to aid in asana adjustments. The flow usually consists of a mix of sun-salutations and variations, arm-balances, inversions (headstand,handstand are offered), back-bending, and seated stretching asanas. Their new location features a larger and more luxurious space than their previous location including 2 beautiful new bathrooms. Towels are offered free of charge and mats rentals and water are available for purchase. There is plenty of parking available in the lot. This is a review for Power Yoga Buffalo at the Snyder location. I've been going here for a few months and really enjoy it. I still like to think of my main studio as being Mind Body Flow in East Amherst but until they start offering a 4:30 class a few days a week, I will probably eventually switch over to just going to PYB. The class times are convenient. I've also gone to the lunchtime power hour (12-1pm) but my only complaint is that the class rarely starts and ends on time. I always arrive in plenty of time but usually have to end up excusing myself a few minutes before class officially ends because I need to get back to work. The instructors are all very kind and bring a great energy to the classes. I wish they would do more correcting during class -MBFY does a great job of walking around checking and deepening everyone's posture. But at PYB there are simply too many people in the class for instructors to do this perhaps? I've counted 30+ people in class before, making for a slightly uncomfortable crowded feeling. Takes away from the meditation aspect that I so enjoy about yoga. The heat is a little much, sometimes, too. MBFY I believe sets their heat at ~80/85 degrees. Which is a comfortable sweat temp. PYB must set it closer to 100. It is sometimes too much IMHO. I will keep coming here! The workout is incredible, both physically and mentally. read more

The best way to know if Power Yoga is right for you, is to replace the word "Power", with "Advanced". With the exception of a few basics level classes offered at this studio, almost all of the classes are marketed to all levels, which is not entirely accurate. This style of yoga is most appropriate for very experienced yoga practitioners who have already deeply studied the fundamentals of the practice, and former or current athletes or dancers who have strong body awareness. The teachers attempt to sneak in modification cues every now and then, but it mostly falls on deaf ears. Newer yogis might be enticed into hot Power Yoga for the intensity of the practice. But, with teachers saying things like "go to your most uncomfortable place", and "do something in this pose that you are scared to do", there is a risk of injury for newer students who do not yet have a grasp of their limitations. The style does confuse me sometimes with the random and awkward placement of sun salutations. The spiritual component of the classes is similar to reading the Facebook feed of one of your friends who incessantly posts cliche inspiration memes. But, this is the Power Yoga brand, and I applaud them for being true to their convictions. With that said, as a yoga practitioner of 20 years who also enjoys athletic workouts, I really enjoy the classes here as a treat. For a more traditional and all around yoga studio, East Meets West is my favorite. read more

The guts: I have been to many studios, over many years, with many different teachers. No doubt, this studio and style of yoga has captured my attention and ceased my desire to seek out new studios. My husband actually was the one who was inspired by one of the owners, Susan, to try yoga himself for the first time ever. He was overcome with her patient, gentle demeanor while shopping one day, saying she was "the most pleasant unpretentious person" he's met and wanted to check out her class. So we did. I should mention this was a few years ago before "Power Yoga Buffalo" opened. She and Jamie (other owner), continued to educate and inspire us so much that we (mostly me) followed them through three departed studio locations before arriving at the current location. They have always taken care to make everyone feel welcome, they consistently remind students that we are all beginners and to take your practice at your own pace, all the while they are there to help you advance in your path. PYB now offers a variety of class levels and time slots to suit any student. I love the 40 Days to Personal Revolution where you may begin a journey of self exploration and slowly learn how to step by step make physical and emotional changes through practice, meditation, and nutrition. They also offer a New to Baptiste Power Yoga, where you are carefully shown postures with proper alignment, a series I think useful for anyone, be it your first class or your thousandth. The vessel: The new PYB location sits on the second floor of an unassuming building tucked behind a doctors office off Main Street. What I think is the best part of the rather large open space is the windows on the north and south sides of the studio coupled with raw wooden posts speckled through the floor. Sometimes I gaze out the window during one of those ridiculously long poses and try to imagine I'm practicing in a sort of tree fort among the canopy. Now, if you look up, you will find a not so organic stainless ceiling with little nail holes, tiny copper wires, footprints, hand prints, and all kinds of other little gems to entertain (clearly I need more practice on focus!). The floor is wood (real maybe?) which I love, I am adamantly opposed to yoga, especially hot sweaty yoga, on a rug...yuck. Cost: You're barking up the wrong tree here if you want to complain about the 'cost' of any exercise to me. So, yes, worth every penny. There are so many instructors and I have grown to love them each differently, be cause they all have something different to offer if your open and willing. The hours are flexible, the parking is ample. Be warned, it is hot, it is difficult, it is addictive. Addictive because it, makes you feel strong and it makes you feel good. read more

Let me start this review by saying I have never been to a yoga class and can't stand being hot. With that being said, I have to give this studio 5 stars! I did an intro series of 3 Sundays for beginners then signed up for the 10 days unlimited for $20.00 in this 90 degree studio - yes 90 degrees. I am hooked - the teachers were all (I think I had all of them in various classes) were accommodating and patient with me. I did advise them, as instructed to, to let them know I was a beginner and they made modifications with every pose they did. The heat didn't bother me; in fact it felt good. I will be trying other yoga studios in the area but this will be hard to beat! read more

Really a great studio! I was looking for something to change up my exercise routine and decided to try this studio on the positive recommendations of several people and I was not disappointed. I am not the most flexible/graceful person, but I was able to do most of the poses without falling on my face. I went to al "all levels" class, which was just about my speed. The instructors here are great and very knowledgable and encouraging. It is power yoga, so you work it during your class. And they like it hot, so prepare to sweat. I have been taking classes at Power Yoga Buffalo for years and not one is the same or do I ever feel bored. I have tried other studios and this is by far my favorite!! During a recent 21 day challenge I have been able to take a class from all the instructors. Rooted in the Baptiste practice each instructor brings their own style to class. This is not your mamas yoga- I guarantee you will sweat, push yourself and get great workout. The studio is large, clean and full of friendly staff members. Until recently, I would have given Power Yoga Buffalo 5 stars. However, as new classes have been added, new, many very young, and most seemingly inexperienced teachers have been brought in. Maybe there are no experienced teachers out there, maybe it is the availability of teacher training to anyone and everyone but,as a long time practitioner, I used to get more and expected more from the teachers here. Being loud, cursing and strutting around with an ego disproportionate to life and teaching experience does not make for a great yoga teacher or a good experience for the students. read more

I cannot express enough love for this place. This was the place that ignited my love for the practice. Jen, Steve, and Susan are amazing, but all of the teachers here are incredible in their own way and add their own personal touch and style to each class. You can tell that the teachers here have a wholehearted passion for what they teach. They also offer free classes at Canalside and Bidwell Park during the summer and Steve offers donation-based classes Saturday afternoons. This place always feels warm and genuinely welcomes and accommodates people of all levels. I always leave here feeling refreshed and happy. I have to say that PYB is something everyone can benefit from and should have in their life. Susan, Jamie and the other instructors create a warm, friendly environment. Each class is challenging, creative and different from the last while maintaing the same structure, postures and message. PYB creates a safe place to learn and grow with yoga. Each teacher brings their own talents and messages each class. The blend of music, voice and silence keeps your attention during the class. The classes have a blend of advanced to beginner but never is their any judgment felt (I know I only started a couple months ago.) If your sick of the gym, spin classes, cross fit or running, give this a try, you wont be disappointed. Or if you are looking to improve on those this style yoga will help prevent injuries. read more
