The first guy at the top selling fruit is a jerk and asks for money if you need any help at all AFTER he helps you, what a scammer, don't buy anything from him. He was the first and only person in Portugal we met that wasn't nice. If you need to ask someone a question or for help don't go to him, go to the guys below him, and definitely buy stuff from the guys below him, they were very helpful and nice.

Perhaps we were spoiled because we were staying just up the hill, but this is a great beach…read more We were visiting in late September and the weather wasn't too sunny so the place was pretty sparse. I'm sure in summer it's a different story but we loved walking along the Long Beach with its gently sloping sand. Not really any shells here so it's a great walking or sandcastle beach. Because of its proximity to the city of Portimão (the building tower above it), there are a lot of concessionaires from chair rental to watercraft rental to many bars and restaurants-plenty of activity. Also we learned on our last day there is a small tunnel on the far western edge and you can continue walking much further to additional adjacent beaches. As beach walking is my favorite pastime, this was my ideal beach.

A bit windy, but sunny and we had been told that there would be no room outside at our 15:45 slot but as it happened there was a spare table - a few in from the first entrance...that turned out to be perfect...you do not want to be closer First, the service from all waiters and waitresses was superb - top notch, friendly, efficient, knowledgeable The food: we shared a starter of tempura prawns, we both ordered the roast beef (of which more later), a couple of glasses of wine, water, cheesecake, a brownie and coffees. Total €85 - our most expensive meal for the whole holiday. Was it worth it - absolutely. We had every intention of having fish (it looked delicious) but we sort of got tempted by the beef especially as we could order rare and well done...and it was; hardly ever happens. Delicious, loads of veggies too. The rest of the food was also excellent...the atmosphere, service, food all made for a really lovely day out. Way above expectations (Wow too to the two girls (twins?) out with their parents and younger brother to our left - they ordered the octopus and cleared their plates...its so good to see kids a) behaving in restaurants (which they can find boring and restraining) and b) being "food educated" at an early stage and not just getting the first hamburger or fish and chips on the menu. There are several sections that you can go and they all have the fantastic rock formations and are extremely clean. We were off season and not a lot of people, but if you are looking for a gorgeous beach in Lagos, this is the one. We had head Camillo was nice but we went there and it is tiny and does not compare to Dona Ann (and Camillo has 220 stairs!).

The shots from the cliffs themselves are the most ready for Instagram, but I'd suggest taking the stairs down and spend some time on the beach. It's a beautiful serene spot that is worth the climb up/down the stairs. As many have suggested, this is better for the young and limber given the amount of stairs necessary to make it down to the beach.

Having travelled all over the world in my 20s I can honestly say that this area is my all-time favourite. Throughout my childhood my family and I have had many unforgettable holidays here, so much so that my sister has chosen this place to celebrate the biggest day of her life in May 2011. Canico restaurant has very cleverly been built within the cliffs looking over Lagos Bay. To get to the bay below you can take an elevator down through the rocks, something I seem to want to do again and again and never tire of! The restaurant serves choices of Mediterranean cuisine as well as many traditional Portuguese dishes. There's a calming atmosphere during the day and a fantastic magical feel at night with the back-lit cliffs and local DJs or live music performing on the sands making you want to dance under the stars throughout the night! The beach itself is small but perfect, with crystal clear turquoise waters for bathing. Try taking a stroll and explore the many interconnecting quirky bays nearby. This really is such a memorable place that im somewhat reluctant to share it with others, but somehow I just can't keep it to myself either! I can guarantee you certainly won't be disappointed!
