I guess I should have checked the reviews first. I have always recommended this place to acquaintances as I assumed this was a robust resource for members of our community facing difficulties, but now that I myself tried to use their services, I find that it is impossible to do so. A family member of mine is facing imminent homelessness, and I have called PSLS five separate times during the past week attempting to even speak to an intake specialist. I am unable to even speak to a live person; the phone system repeatedly tells me the line is full and to call back later, but their phone lines are only open 9am-1pm on weekdays, which is just horrible when you don't even answer the phone during those limited hours of operation. This service is meant to be for the community. Their website says, "Prairie State Legal Services is supported by a diverse group of foundations, corporations, individuals, and government agencies that provide a stable foundation for our organization." I'm not sure which foundations and government agencies are giving them money, but it sounds like fraud if they are incapable of serving the public. Very disappointing. read more

I wish I could say that they're compassionate and tried to help, but it was basically the opposite. The people taking the intake form are very polite on the phone. That's the only reason they got one star but the attorney calling back was vile and disrespectful, argumentative and awful. they interrupt you they constantly scream at you. I have never been spoken to in that manner in my life. I have never experienced, such unprofessional, arrogant, narcissistic, self-absorbed, coldhearted contempt from someone who could have helped, but claims immediately they're Not going help whether you have proof or not.. If I could give this org. a -5 I would. They are a typical not for profit do nothing that adds no quality and ill-advised legal advice to any given situation. I strongly recommendnot putting yourself through the heartache of talking to them. They couldn't even instruct me properly on filling out a legal form for the courts to request a motion to vacate and a notice. The female atty who called me had already made up her mind about me. I am disabled, and was treated like a moron, she was beyond condescending, and lied to me re my entitlement to "maintemance" which is completely different than child support (I am a former legal secretary and paralegal), stating as if she were explaining a legal concept to a 9 year old child: "but your children are adults now, right, you aren't entitled to maintenance because you have no minor children at home!" I've been a victim of domestic violence, financial abuse, three corrupt trials that favored my ex because he was wealthy (my.money.originally which the courts aided him in stealing) and paid off all parties including the judges, guardian ad litem, my own lawyers and anyone who might have protected my children and me, as if she too was paid off and on that same "Winning Team" Is there not an honest lawyer left in the world today? Molly service and this office has horrible service, they had 16 documents of proof that IDES was incorrect on their ruling, and they still didn't represent me in my appeal, I gave up tons of personal information for a 7 min phone call on a case I've been fighting for two years, she told me to start at the ending of the situation so she can get a brief explanation but she had every document from IDES I know she didn't throughly read the documents because she still asked about details of the case when she had 4 statements on my behalf documented read more

I spoke to an attorney named Christina would not give me her last name. She was bound and determined not to take my case against the state. The state was trying to cut my food stamps and my Medicaid because they said my income had gone up. Which was a lie because I am on social security disability and received nothing else. I wanted her to represent me in an appeal and she tried to prove that the state was right and every which way she could. She couldn't even calculate how they determined what they should give me correctly. It was nothing but a farce and I'm so disappointed because I have no one else to turn to. This state is disgusting too for taking advantage of an elderly disabled person. This state is making The disadvantaged pay for their mistakes and giving out benefits to people they should not have been given to during COVID. What a sad world we live in! read more

PSL helped my wife falsify an Emergency Order of Protection and destroyed my entire life. I have not seem my little girl in over 2 months, I have not been inside my house (all of which I was the sole financial provider of) for 3 months. My wife lied to these people and they went ahead and falsified documents and lied to a judge anyway. I am a loving father and a good man and these people destroyed my entire life. read more

I am a disabled elderly man. Every time I called Prairie State Legal I did talk to an 'attorney' that informed me they either didn't have enough attorneys, or they were too busy to take my foreclosure case. If either one of these lame excuses were true, they would not be in their office. They would be in court defending clients. There are 5 lawyer in Rock Island, Illinois. I recently contacted them again and again slammed the door on me. These 'attorneys' are worthless to say the least. They suck up grant money and through us that are more than qualified under the bus. I am now facing eviction with no place to live except my truck. read more

Was referred here to help with a real housing crisis. Was talked down to by Kelly, told I was argumentative, when clearly I was hurt and distressed. He Constanly reminded me his services were FREE as if I was not warranted fair treatment regardless. I was basically just made to feel I was wrong, none of my questions were answered, barely wanted to review proof, without a clear attitude. He made copies of whatever he felt necessary, handed me my paperwork, leaving me not even having any idea what had just happened or why, closed the door in my face. Barely said goodbye. I got no follow up. He acted as if he was going to contact the landlord. I don't know if he did or not. No follow up. I handled the money issues myself with my complex under duress to avoid eviction. I was just told to leave before I'm evicted. I received no help from Prairie State Leagal. After being referred to them by Housing. I would never send anyone to them. If it is just Kelly I would not know. Would never go back to see. I vented to the receptionist on my way out! read more
