This place has become a Rockford staple. I've been here for everything from a relaxing summer dinner on the docks with live music, to wintertime weddings. They've done an amazing job giving new life to this historic building and renovating everything to still preserve the original charm but adding the modern touches too. They have a great spot to eat right on the Rock river in the warm months. Would highly recommend grabbing a house brewed beer and dinner and enjoy the sunset. I will say their prices are a little high but they do have good food and a fun atmosphere. They also have a large indoor bar and dinner space as well, if you're here in the colder months or want some A/C. Attending weddings and large events, we've also had great experiences here. We bring friends from out of town here to experience a taste of Rockford. Glad it's here! read more

We stopped here for dinner before a concert. It's the perfect spot with a great menu selection and seasonal specials. Taylor was our server and she did a fantastic job with recommendations and even a few beer samples to sway our decision. I would highly recommend the Rockford Quesadilla along with the Taquitos as an appetizer. Leave a little room for dessert as we ordered the s'mores crème brûlée and it was delicious! This is apparently the place to be on a Thursday night! I arrived at 5 pm, thinking I could get there early, grab a seat for myself and s friend. Ha! I could barely find a parking space! This evening Prairie Street offers Dinner on the Dock. I've never been there before, but heard it's a fun time. They have streamlined dinner by setting up a bar, that seemed to have limited choices, out on their dock which is right on the Rock River. They set up a food stand with choices of burgers, brats, chicken wraps, fries and cheese curds and another table with all the condiments. They have live entertainment and tonight they had a group called The Gilligan's, a great cover band. It was the first time I heard them, and I enjoyed them very much. Several people were out on the dance floor. It was a gorgeous evening, but I guess it is always crowded. I saw many friends that I knew and met a few more, we had such a good time. The only thing that was annoying is that they had several tables reserved for people/groups, while extremely crowded and no one had been sitting the two hours I was there. read more

PSB Ramen!!! I'm gonna give it 5! Service was great for our party of 18(!!!) and that alone would be worthy of 5 stars. 18 people 12 kids, 1 server. Pure Awesomeness!!!!! But the PSB Ramen (the hot one) is literally worth a 90 min drive (I live just barely north of Chicago) and I have to bring my wife back for a bowl of that deliciousness. Unfortunately it's a special that only shows it's face occasionally, but IMHO the right person could make that ramen an institution, but there's something to say about leaving them wanting, I guess.... Anyway, I t's that's good. Blows away a ramen I just had from a national 'high-end' chain that I won't mention, but it rhymes with Boca Azure (I say it that way cause I expect delicious from a 'high-end' anything). 100% I'd return for just that. My daughter and I have decided this place is our favorite Rockford eatery. We sat outside (pre-CoVid) on the deck, overlooking the river. It was one of those perfect summer days. The service was excellent and the food delicious. We recently went back for her birthday - Mother & Daughter Day Out. It was a chilly, wet day so we were inside but got to enjoy the unique interior. By far my favorite rehearsal dinner I've attended. Our group was set up in a private room that overlooked the river walk area. There was a mini bar set up with several beers available on tap. I found their chocolate Porter to be delicious and also quite filling. Our food was delicious. Not sure if the brew house provides a catering service or who was responsible for it but so good! Mini grilled cheeses dipped in tomato bisque soup, shrimp shooters, potato skins with pulled pork, and BBQ wings. And those were just the apps! The mixed green salad was excellent and the dinner was steak AND spinach stuffed chicken breast with asparagus and red skinned mashed potatoes. So much food but so good. The bride and groom had complete control if the room and it was decorated very nicely. I'd love to go back and check out the rest of the venue. read more

The staff is pretty friendly, and the burgers were pretty good. It sits right off the river so the view is decent as well. As far as the brews, while I didn't drink due to my permanent status as DD, my wife approves. I'm fairly sure if you came here, you'd find something to your liking. read more

An interesting venue on the shores of the Rock River Pros: -It is a neat building with lots of space and it gives a classier vibe for a night out. -House brews were very flavorful and I really enjoyed the Scottish ale. I'm not even a beer fan. -I had an angus steak and thought it was real good. I did not compare it to bar food as many other reviews have suggested. -Had it been less muggy (and buggy) I would have loved to have been able to eat by the river. They have an awesome deck out there. Cons: -Not a huge fan of the portions vs prices. It feels like you're nickled and dimed a little. -Not wild about the parking or having to park across the street in some cases. Well one of my absolute favorite spots in Rockford has been completely ruined for me. My sister came in town from Texas and we were so excited to take her here... Unfortunately we did NOT have the experience we had hoped for. I'll start by saying the beer is always great, I'll never complain about the beer. The food on the other hand was was so disappointing. My wife and I have always loved their food but they have recently changed chefs and with the change their menu took a serious hit. All of our regular dishes are gone. The menu items that we liked that were still there have been changed for the worse. Smaller sizes, less options, and not as good tasting. When we tried to address our concerns with our server she essentially just told us we were wrong. I can honestly express how bummed I am from this experience. I'll most likely not return unless it's just for drinks. I will also not be recommending this place to friends as I would hate for them to have the experience we had today. I hope that if you are trying this place for the first time that you have a better experience than I had and I wish this business nothing but success. read more

Still good but had to knock a star for less impressive food and service. I wanted the black bean burger on the menu but they didn't have it. I had to get hummus platter instead bc not many vegetarian options. We wouldn't have gone there at all had I known they didn't have it bc there are not many other vegetarian items beyond a salad, hummus or fruit plate. I don't go out to eat for simple things I can make at home so this was a huge disappointment. They could do better. The hummus was bland & soupy = not good hummus. Dining partners also were not impressed with Caesar salad & seafood chowder. Also we've noticed getting a headache after drinking the beer. (Not an amount that would cause hangover, Just 1-3 beers). We stopped here on our way back to Iowa from Chicago. Just by chance stopped here for lunch. This was a very nice location on the river. Excellent restoration of this mid 1800s brewery. We will be back everytime we are through the area. Excellent food. Great beer and drinks. A must go. read more

It's always fantastic to see the little gems that pop up in Rockford when I'm visiting, and this is one of them. The space has been renovated beautifully, with plenty of event spaces alongside the bar/restaurant section. It overlooks the river, which would be lovely in the summer. The food is really great. I don't know what previous reviewers ordered to have mediocre food, but I loved all of it. Dad and I shared the hummus platter, which was very generous (but could have used more stuff for dipping). It was spinachy and delicious. Dad said his roast dinner was really good; it arrived with a large (but not giant) portion of meat, mashed potatoes, and a veggie. My fish tacos were DE.LICIOUS. Three large tacos crammed full of fish, pico, sauce, and flavor. They were too much to eat, but dammit I wasn't going to waste it (fish tacos are not a take-home food). So so so good. My only complaints were the noise level and the service. It was really loud in here, but we could hear each other at our table. The service was crazy slow. Yeah, they were very busy, but I've been to bigger, busier restaurants that handled it just fine. I got the sense that they were understaffed or inexperienced. After waiting a while, our appetizer and food came out all at once, but they abandoned our entrees next to us. Several servers walked by but did nothing, until the manager came along to pass them out. It was just in poor form. If they beef up the service, I would recommend Prairie Street Brewhouse without hesitation. read more

It is simple and free spirited. It's a nice outside get away from tradition. I attended one of the first wedding receptions they had here. I was impressed with the decor then and it was not even done. Owners are super nice and really care. We came for dinner on the dock. This is my first experience at dinner on the dock. If you are looking for a hostess and table service you will not find it (though there is a buss boy that helps rid you of the garbage & maybe a drink waitress). It is a bit more of a free for all then I thought - but it was not a bad thing. It is seat yourself and people get there early to save tables for their groups. Some people pulled up and parked their boats and ate on the boats, others sat on the dock legs hanging over or simply stood. It is open and welcome to all. People of all ages partake and early in the day I saw kids and even a dog. The food is sold caterer/company picnic style. It was tasty with simple choices with plenty of toppings and reasonably priced. They take both credit cards and cash. There is a small bar in the lower level with a good selection (but not extensive) of liquor and rockford brewing co beer. There is also a small beer stand near where you get the food. For boaters - You can fill up you boat with gas here and if open it's a nice place to stop for a bathroom or beverage. read more

had family come up from Bloomington-Normal area to have family dinner. Decided try your restaurant. Appetizer of onions rings were ice cold but waitress never came to check so we did not return them. After we were almost done with Apps we were told two of our orders were no long available. When entrées came my Turkey club was also cold and without the egg or the jam. Not to mention the turkey looked as if it was put in a blender. Lucky our waitress happened by this time and I was able to send it back. This place slays and is a heavy repeat offender in our boozy Rockford adventures. The crowd can be a bit on the young side especially around the holidays, but we make it work. This establishment dabbles in seaside entertainment with drunken hoon cranking out on the docks with the boys. We had a reservation and when we arrived we were told to wait for our table. The hostess came back immediately after and said, "Oh I guess you're table is over there." We stood there for awhile not sure if the table was ready for us and if we were supposed to wait for her to grab menus and seat us. Besides, the stand at the entrance clearly says "Please wait to be seated". After standing there for about 5 uncomfortable minutes while the manager and servers ignored us, my friend asked if we could possibly eat outside since we had not yet been seated. The manager rudely said, "Oh so you don't want your table," and proceeded to rudely say that with our size of party (6) that it was too long of a wait. My friend kindly apologized for asking and then they proceeded to ignore us again. Three of the four of us at the time have been servers for a while, so after being fed up with the rudeness we encountered within our first 5 minutes I asked if we were supposed to seat ourselves then. The manager and the servers looked at us and the hostess pointed in a general direction and said, "Your table is right there." The rest of the night ran pretty slow, and the restaurant was not very busy for a Friday night. Our food took a long time to come out, and the only positive was that our server herself was very nice and helpful, and our appetizer was comped for the long wait. I ordered the Cajun "mac & cheese". Basically, there is no cheese and it is pasta with spicy cajun sauce, so I don't recommend this to someone who thinks they would get something that tastes like cheese. My friend got the panini with the tomato and cheese, and it also was not worth the money. If you go here, stick to the drinks and maybe the burger menu! read more

If your looking for a chill place to have some drinks, your golden. But if you want to eat, and get some decent service, forget it. We have been to Prairie St now about 10 times in the past year, and each time the service has been consistently bad with both rude and absent waitresses. The food has also taken a huge decline in both flavor and temperature. The last 3 times we have ordered food it was both cold, undercooked and not seasoned well. Its a huge shame because the atmosphere and bar is absolutely superb. I truly hope that Prairie St Brewhouse can step it up. Prairie Street Brewhouse is just Meh. The building itself is beautiful, though the open spaces make for much echoing, making it difficult to hear. If you choose to go during the summer months, bring a sweater. It is absolutely freezing in the dining area. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, but the service was excessively slow. We were there around 5:00 pm on a Monday. There were about 6 people in the bar, and only 2 tables were full, in the dining area, yet we waited over an hour for basic food choices that should have been quick to cook and serve. The food was okay, though a bit bland. The beer and root beer were also bland. Prices were reasonable. May give it another try, sometime. **Update 1.Nov.15** My family has been to the Prairie Street Brewhouse, twice since my original review. Sadly, I have taken my 2 star review down to 1 star. We will not be going back. It is still, "meh", still freezing (even when it is 40 degrees outside, you need to wear a jacket inside), and the service is even slower now (though there has never been many people there , while we were there). Each time my family has visited, we have ordered basic food (sandwiches, salads), and it has taken a minimum of 75 minutes to receive our food (the maximum was 98 minutes, we almost walked out). I don't know what is going on in the kitchen, but they need significant improvement in their speed. read more

Location is gorgeous right on the river. Beers are good. The food is ok. I have been there five times for food (I really want to like it) and service /training is lacking. I have had to interupt hosts to get seated after standing there for five minutes while they chatted with each other. I feel like I always have to beg the servers to get attention. I appreciate all that this venue has done for Rockford but, if they want to be a restaurant, they need to train the staff to be professional, knowledgeable and timely with the service. Met a group of friends who were eating outside and there were two open tables next to them , no one waiting ahead of us we asked to sit there and were told they would have to check with a manager. So we said ok. We're going to go chat with them while we waited for some explanation on why would wouldn't be able to sit there. We were then greeted by a not so friendly staff member who askif we "needed menus or something" we said sure if it was ok to sit there. We were then sprayed with whatever cleaner is used to wipe the tables down... And had some menus thrown at us. We ordered drinks first and when they came out we were asked if we were ordering food as well, we responded with "drinks for now" intending to order food after we enjoyed a beverage but apparently that response means "no" and our menus were removed from the table, beer menu included. We each had a drink and decided we were certainly not staying there to eat. I think the only time our waitress smiled is when we asked for the check. read more

Great place for a burger after a shred session at the West Rock Wake Park. Cheese curds are even better than at the brat stop in WI. The batter is light and the Sriracha mayo sauce is the bomb. Beers are excellent here. Food is hit or miss. They have great cheese curds with a sriracha aioli, but sometimes they come out too greasy. Food can sometimes be great, but other times, like this evening be just okay. Tonight I ordered a crispy spicy chicken sandwich. It was not spicy at all and had been fried too long and was so greasy. When I had the same sandwich a month ago it was great. There is just not enough consistency in the cooking. It's a great place for a few beers, but if you want dinner as well, you may not be pleased depending on who is cooking. read more

Good food, interesting beers. The server had great suggestions for us on food and beer. With his recommendation we moved outside to eat in the sun on one of the few nice days left this year. There were a number of things on the menu that looked good. We split an order of wings and cheese curds which were fantastic. I ordered the Blue Cheese burger. The burger could have been better but I really loved the beer. The location is great right on the river in an old industrial building. They did a great job with the renovation, the exposed brick and the use of metal compliments the industrial history of the structure. Made it back to PSB a few more times and my experience has been much, much better. Staff and bartenders were very friendly and the music selection was really good. Had a few flights of beer but I couldn't tell you which was my favorite. Not that they weren't good- just that I am not big on beer. Prefer the Makers Mark and what not. We used Prairie St for our wedding ceremony and reception. We LOVED everything about the location, the venue itself and the staff. I was living in Dallas while planning the wedding and they were great about communicating with me via email and phone throughout. The only negative was occasionally feeling as though I was being "nickeled and dimed" for various items. They have made some adjustments to their pricing since our wedding in October 2014 so this may have helped. Overall, we had such a memorable experience and we will cherish that day forever! read more

We have been 3 times and let me say 3 strikes you are out. No place to park limited handicap spaces. Twice the same car was parked in two handicapped stalls. Service was horrible we had to flag other servers down for drink refills. Food was sub par, two times ordered burgers medium both came hard as a hockey puck. When I said something was offered to rebook. Let them do so and it was 30 minutes later I got it everyone else was done and guess what hockey puck again. Last time tried something else. When it came out it was not even Luke warm. All 3 times were for birthday dinners. I will never go back that's for sure. read more
