Public Art in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada... This is an amazing attraction that's FREE! I asked my cousin's cousin if she wanted to go to Container Park. She didn't know what it was because she hadn't been to Las Vegas in twenty years. I asked my cousin who has a house in Henderson - he didn't know about Container Park either. My mom didn't remember that I had taken her when her sister, Lily, was her roommate. Okay - let's go on an excursion! Everyone piled into my car and I drove to the corner of Fremont Street and 7th Street. There's no parking that's safe and nearby for kupuna. They just sat in my car and watched the spectacle. I don't think they were able to hear the song, but they had a good view! The flames from the antenna of the 40-feet tall and 30-feet wide structure are synchronized to the music! (On 4-23-23, "Eye Of The Tiger" by Survivor was playing!) Also - the Praying Mantis can speak in twenty different languages! Built in 2010 by an aeronautical engineer named Kirk Jellum, the Praying Mantis was a First Anniversary gift for his wife, Kristen! This is a highly recommended Tourist Destination for all ages! It's unique, colorful and astounding! If you stand nearby, you can feel the warmth from the six-stories-high flames!

This was a very interesting and unique find, as I'm not sure I've ever seen a praying mantis anything, anywhere. Well, this is a giant one, that shoots fire out of its antennae at sunset, then periodically throughout the evening after that, though it's unclear the timing for this. It's a pretty simple but fun fire and light show. The praying mantis sways its neck and head to music, going along with whatever song is playing, while colorful blinking lights illuminate its entire body. The show's about 5-8 minutes long, or a little longer than a song. A couple songs we stayed for were Aretha Franklin's Respect, and Funky Town... they seem to change it up, it's pretty random. The first show this past Saturday accurately started at the listed time, around 4:45pm. But there was no drum circle as they note (on their website and on the sign at the actual site) happens during the first show of the evening. Still, it's a free attraction with a little bit of history and science attached to it. The mantis was created by Kirk Jellum, an aerospace engineer, as a gift for his wife for their first wedding anniversary. Today, it can be enjoyed by visitors of all ages for free at the Downtown Container Park.

I reached out to this business and sadly learned that there are no places in town that teach this skill. This business does offer other classes working with fused glass so I decided to sign up for one. The cost for my class was only $40 which I thought was very reasonable. Although I am not in this part of town often, the studio was easy to find parking was plentiful in their lot. This business is broken into two areas. When you enter, you are in the gallery and there are various artists featured along with their pieces. Very impressive. In the back of the studio is where all the glass art is created. There are kilns, tools, workbenches etc. My friend and I signed up to create a colorful heart this past Saturday morning. We were warmly greeted by Don who checked us in and then we patiently waited for the class to begin. Barbara and Larry (owners) took us back into the working part of the studio and we all found our places around two tables. Since we were handling glass, we had to wear gloves for safety. The purpose of the class was to create a mosaic style heart/paperweight. There were two large trays at each table filled with colorful, fused glass. After trying various sizes of the glass, I was finally able to finish creating my design and considered my heart masterpiece completed. Larry was extremely informative and helpful throughout the class as was Barbara. I learned from Larry about their extensive involvement with our community. They had just recently held an event for the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation. I love a small business that gives back and it makes me want to support them even more. Both Barbara and Larry display a real passion for what they do and enjoy sharing it with others. Larry expressed to me how addicting creating this kind of art an be and I totally believe him. After our hearts were created, they would now be placed in the kiln for firing. Barbara advised all of us that as soon as our hearts were ready, we would be notified and able to pick them up. I have been looking for a creative outlet and I believe I will be back taking more classes and learning more about working with fused glass.

A moment in which in your burry eyed, foggy state of boarding your return flight home, you might vaguely remember a giant thing with tumbling numbers or a giant tree house looking thing you thought was a restaurant. But make no mistake, those items (which are indeed public art) have been placed there for you to see, experience, be mesmerized by and enjoy....whether you actually knew it or not. Crystals and the City Center area that surrounds it, is a treasure trove of some of the city's greatest contemporary, cool art installations. From the cool Mihajima Marks U.S debuted piece that went in to Crystals last year, to the funky cool tree house that houses Maestros designed by David Rockwell or James Turrell's Akhob located inside Louis Vuitton (appointments required, so call well in advance)...great art is everywhere at Crystals! Look up City Center Art Collection before you visit, for if art is your thing, this is a fun scavenger hunt around City Center, in addition to Crystals (the shopping entity at City Center). Most of the pieces are large and can make you travel around the entire site to discover. The art at Crystals can rotate from time to time, so keep your eyes peeled for new stuff during each visit.

Every room had something unique, and we found ourselves laughing, taking tons of photos, and trying to figure out all the mind-bending illusions. The staff was also friendly and even helped us take some of the best illusion pictures. Admission: Tickets are around $40-45 for adults and $33-38 for children (ages 5-12) when purchased online. Kids 4 and under are free. Hours: Open daily from 10:00 AM to 12:00 AM, so it's easy to fit into your schedule. Parking: We found the easiest place to park was the Aria self-parking garage, with an easy indoor walk to the museum. You can also park at the Cosmopolitan or 63 CityCenter valet, but all charge for parking. Nevada residents may receive free or discounted parking at some garages. Best Ages: I'd recommend it for ages 5 and up. Younger kids can still enjoy parts of it, but older children, teens, and adults really appreciate the illusions and interactive exhibits. Tips: * Plan to spend 45-90 minutes exploring. (Museum of Illusions Las Vegas) * Wear comfortable shoes since you'll be standing and walking through each exhibit. * Take your time--many illusions look even better through your phone camera than in person! * Let the staff help you pose for the illusion photos--they know the perfect angles. * Go earlier in the day if you want fewer crowds and more time for photos. What I liked most was that it gave us something fun to do together. Instead of just walking through and looking at displays, we were actually part of the experience. We ended up with plenty of funny pictures and great memories. If you're looking for a fun activity on the Strip with your family or a group of friends, this is definitely worth checking out. We're glad we decided to stop by.

My wife and kids were next in line and were about to get on when one of the employees went around asking people to wait until 9pm when the fireworks would be going off. My kids were getting restless and didn't care to wait so they decided to go on anyway. The ride is supposed to last for 10 mins but they were only at the top for only 2-3 mins. The guy on the ride felt bad and told my wife and kids they could stay on since they were only on it for a couple mins but the lady who was working the line and operating the ride ushered them off as quick as she could. When my wife asked for an explanation why their ride was cut short, she said they promised a bunch of people they would get to go on and see the fireworks and that they wouldn't fit. She also said she spoke to her in a very condescending way. The rest of the main experience again in the main building was pretty awesome. Arcade was great, VR attractions were fun. This last interaction was just a really bad way to end the night.
