The employees happily explained the choices we had and what to expect from each pastry if needed. The ambiance is as expected being surrounded by delicious pastries. Only good things.... Only good things..... They are part of a shopping mall that stays open about an hour after the regular retail stores close. This way you can get what you really came for without having to carry it around while shopping. Once outside one can go from window to window looking at the Christmas displays. This is a great place to sample different items such as 10 different flavors of eclairs. How can you give this less than 5 stars? You really can't. I love this place.

I've been three times in the last three years, despite not living in the country. It's a little hectic and hard to navigate for me to love unreservedly, but there's no doubt that it offers a plethora of good food. I can't think of anything quite like it in the U.S., but if you've been to the Harrods food halls or department stores in Asia, you might recognize the dense arrangement of mini restaurants and food purveyors, spread out across several floors. My first visit was for an hour-long hangout with friends, and we had a hell of a time finding a place to sit down while we got a coffee or snack. We went up and down the escalator scouting things out, but almost every spot with seating was overrun on a Saturday afternoon. We ended up at an okay pan-Asian spot called Rice Street between lunch and dinner service, getting boba and sheltering from the chaos. I went two days in a row on my more recent trip to Paris, first for a Glace BACHIR pop-up, and then to get an easy on-the-go lunch before getting sucked into the broader maw of the main Galeries Lafayette. It was crowded both days, the ground floor crawling with people. Both the ice cream and my sandwich, from Chez Meunier, were delicious. I haven't quite figured out Galeries Lafayette Gourmet, but it's a worthwhile destination if you want to run around trying pastries and chocolates and other French delectables. It's kind of overwhelming, but you will likely eat well.

Monoprix is a pretty sweet one-stop-shop that includes a department store, pharmacy, and grocery store (and probably more--may report back). The clothes are cute, and you can even find some cozy natural fibers. I definitely recommend stopping there first if you forgot an essential garment (or the weather took an unexpected turn). This review is not about the clothes, though. The grocery store was pretty busy, as we arrived right when people are leaving work snd heading home. This location had tons of convenient items and snack items that were perfect for eating right away (OF COURSE I mean as soon as you get home or find a suitable park bench to pause at). They also had some more ingredients-type foods, along with an impressive selection of cheeses that rivals any from stateside. Good service and reasonable prices (it's Paris, so they may be higher than you are used to, but nothing to make you faint). Awesome selection.

If your parents strolled in at the last minute and got shut down over a cucumber while staff were closing, that's not "rude" -- that's normal. While waiting for the store across the street to open up, we came into the cafe one to enjoy some breakfast. Best decision ever! There was a few people ahead of us and there was only one girl working, I was worried she might fall behind, but to my surprise she took care of every single one of us. Both of us really enjoyed our breakfast very much, due to the mini wait, we got a free macaroon and it was delicious as well. There is a small clean nice eating area for you to enjoy your snack. Its a good spot for a quick snack or bite, not meant for long term sitting around. The restroom is very spacious and clean as well. There is a reason why people enjoy coming to Pierre Herme, you are able to taste the quality of the food and you can tell that effort was put into making each and every one of these small yummy pieces. They are all mostly super sweet so find a good cafe to park yourself at, order your favorite large coffee and bring out the box of Pierre Herme deliciousness. I entered the shop with the expected "bonjour" to the clerk who immediately indicated he spoke no English and disappeared in the back to, I assumed, seek someone who could help me. Instead an older gentleman appeared and brusquely stated he did not speak English and then brushed me aside to attend to other customers. If you want to enjoy the French cheese experience I suggest you avoid this location unless your French is up to standard.
