Wi-Fi at Menzies Hotel is free however it is quite spotty. You are logged in to the Wi-Fi at one minute, the next minute you are disconnected. The Wi-Fi connection is almost non-existent in your bedroom and seems to be the best in the bar. Even in the bar though, the connection is off and on. It is very frustrating. Of course, I'm not going to base my review of this hotel on just the Wi-Fi--this hotel is very clean, and on beautiful grounds. The beds are comfortable and the very tasty full English breakfast will satisfy the hungriest morning appetite. The hotel has a dining room which serves dinner after 7pm and also has room service dining. Dinner we had here was really good. The hotel has a golf course but I cant really talk about it too much because I didn't really experience it. I'm sure it is beautiful. The staff is attentive and nice. The hotel is about 5 miles NW of the Cambridge city square. The #5 bus will get you to Emmanuel College in about 20-25 minutes depending on the traffic. Down the street from the Menzies is a pub that offers pretty good food and drinks and 2 minutes from there is a 24 hour Tesco (with AMAZINGLY fast free WIFI) and a Costa Coffee shop. Overall, I think for me, the frustration of the spotty Wi-Fi over-powered the many positive aspects of the hotel. I would probably not stay here ever again unless I absolutely had to.

My friends and I had a complete giggle staying at this hotel!…read more It is a really good place to stay if you are in a big group (we were on a hen party) and this worked out far cheaper than similar hotels in the centre of Cambridge even after we spent a fortune on taxis!! However it wasn't perfect...and I don't think I'd choose to stay here if I was on a romantic weekend break! The good parts: - There were large, clean lovely rooms - The curtains block out ALL light so we could go clubbing all night, then sleep during the morning without being woken up by the sunshine - yay! - They have enough stock of prosecco to keep a large group of ladies well bubbled - The spa facilities can really help with hangovers! - The breakfast made me happy The less good: - There was a really dodgy kettle in our room (it would just keep boiling and boiling and burnt my friend's hand when we tried to unplug it.) We told the staff that it should be removed as it is dangerous and they ignored us/didn't change it - It's quite far away from Cambridge's centre. A taxi cost between £12 and £20 (it was different every time!!) - We had a meal included for the first night...it was a carvery /buffet and wasn't particularly good. Maybe it is designed for hungry golfers as all food tastes better when you're really really hungry...

The price was less expensive than the Felix, but there were some disappointments. 1. Upon entering the reception, there is a computer. It had a sign on it that it was broken and the service technicians had been called. I stayed there a week for the family activities. At the end of the seven days, the computer still had not been repaired. I suspect it is still not repaired. 2. There was a charge of 5 pounds per hour for wi-fi; 10 pounds for 24 hours (lapsed time, not used time). Very expensive. 3. There were no phones or clocks in the rooms, so no wake-up call. I asked about wake-up calls, and the man at the desk said they could bang on the door. They did let me use their office phone to call my sister a few times. My daughter and her family were also staying in the hotel. We had to go to each other's rooms to talk. 4. The (not included) breakfast was quite expensive and was served in a dingy, basement room. 5. No elevator. A problem for those of us with big bags. On a positive note: 1. Nice people work there. Not really trained well, but tried and were very pleasant. 2. Very close to Cambridge city centre via the bus. 3. Beds very comfortable.

A major complaint is that you have to pay to park at the Travelodge, which seems to be a bit tight as it looked like there were hundreds of spaces at the rear of the site, but there are a few spaces on the road opposite the hotel that you don't have to pay to park in.

We made the mistake of thinking we would meet two of my wife's best friends in a stately home style hotel.. (you know a little piece of Downton Abbey) and have afternoon tea. We checked the website and they did it and the pictures on their website didn't look too bad... When we arrived we started to get the sense this was going to go sideways just by the setup and demeanor so my wife went to see the room we were going to be put and believe it or not it had video monitors and a boardroom style conference table with no views to speak of. We rescued the situation by cancelling and going to the Plough round the corner but it left a pretty sour taste in our mouths for sure ! So if this place is advertised as a conference facility then great, if it's advertised as bed and breakfast (breakfast BTW was awful btw) then it would score low but advertising it as a hotel is like advertising a horse and cart as a Tesla ! My co-worker was put into a suite that had a claw foot bath tub, a separate shower, and a large king-sized bed. My room was slightly more traditional European room in that it had a small stand-up only shower, no bath tub, and a Queen-sized bed with a nice armoire in which to hang my shirts and pants, and a great chest of drawers for the other clothing items (socks, undies, etc...). The hotel staff is overwhelmingly friendly and helpful, and the breakfast and dinner are actually pretty appealing considering it is hotel food and a hotel restaurant. Overwhelming positives: (a) Get a high room (5th or 6th floor) and enjoy the ridiculously stellar views of Cambridge. I am not kidding. The views are the bomb-diggity. (b) The hotel is connected to a spa and gym. You get a free membership to the gym with your stay in the hotel and you get a discount on the spa treatments. (c) Within walking distance of everything... and I mean everything. This was a really great hotel and spa experience in the UK.

This was freezing, no matter what time of day I tried and I was here for three nights. They can say all they want about "sustainability" but this is about being cheap. And I can run the shower. I was in Scotland with a shower just like it and the Scots gave me hot water. And they promised me 5 pounds if I didn't get my room cleaned. They didn't clean and they never gave me my voucher. But the big thing is the water. I would have paid more to stay some where else for a decent shower.

Yes Ibis is known to be a pretty small and very tight hotel. There also is no front desk, they have places for you to sit at but you aren't allowed to eat any food that is bought outside! While I was there I saw a group of 20 people trying to use the level one facility where breakfast is served, but they had bought 8 large pizzas. Overall this place is suppose to be budget friendly which you can see a lot of different types of people here. Location wise it's pretty convenient and close to the train station. But I have honestly never been in a room this tiny before. If you paid for breakfast it's pretty much the same thing daily which is a traditional English breakfast filled with eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, toast, fruit salad, sausages, and some cheese. But I would say skip it and just go outside to a coffee shop. It's not worth the amount that you have to pay.
