It's been a year. My time here at Premier Jiu-Jitsu Academy has been nothing but amazing. My fellow training partners are great people, and Jordan is a friendly, outgoing, and thorough instructor. He's the kind of individual that greets and gives farewells with a smile, makes good conversation, and will look out for your safety on the mat. There is no grain of ego 'round here. The folk that train here are friendly, will help you fill in gaps in knowledge, and are very cool to roll with. Most importantly, the instruction itself of Gracie Jiu Jitsu is taught with enthusiasm, significant feedback, and is done so safely. There's honestly never a dull session here. The Fundamentals, Advanced, and Takedown classes are all full of useful and applicable practices, and the Open Mat sessions Jordan hosts on Saturdays have been great way to apply what we learn with one another.

Jordan rotates the kids throughout class to show proper technique.

From the very first class, the instructors made her feel comfortable, supported, and excited to learn. They strike a perfect balance between discipline and encouragement, firm when they need to be, but always positive and patient. What really stands out is how intentional they are about teaching both skill and character. My daughter is already showing more confidence, focus, and respect at home, and she looks forward to every class (which says a lot!). The lessons are well-structured, engaging, and age-appropriate, and the instructors truly take the time to help each student improve at their own pace. The academy itself is clean, organized, and clearly run with a lot of pride. Parents get a great view of the classes, and it's easy to see how much care and attention goes into each session.

When I read that the camp also offered crafts, self-defense, and playtime, I thought it would be a great introduction for him. After the camp, he said he wants to go again next year, and this is the only class he wants to continue! Now he's officially enrolled twice a week. To be honest, I wasn't really considering karate and was leaning more toward other martial arts. But I really liked how they teach self-defense, run the class in a disciplined and organized way, and emphasize respect. The teachers are firm yet warm with the kids. I also love how they mix in play, it helps the kids feel connected, and united. That was exactly what my son needed. :)

All of the staff and the Gracie's are so good with the kids - very gentle and encouraging, but with structure and consistency. They treat each child as an individual and take time to work with each one. We have felt such sincerity and kindness from everyone we have ever met there. Our little one's physical and social confidence are already noticeably growing after only a few classes. And this is such a positive and engaging place, it's always a very preferred activity for us. Parents and families can stay to watch and learn by observation. There are also games like air hockey downstairs for after class. So, it feels like more of a family hangout spot than just a drop-off and pick-up activity. I should also include that as an MMA fan, I partly picked this school because of Rodrigo Gracie's top credentials and legendary career. This alone makes the dojo unique, but when combined with the warm, family friendly approach they have, it is truly a special place.

Rodrigo was a…read morewonderful teacher & so good with the kids, but his wife treated me like a criminal in front of everyone and then could not acknowledge she had made a mistake. This is what happened. Our friends go to this studio and we decided to join them - I had texted (as the website says to do) the day before our lessons making sure it was okay for our kids to come to a lesson & then for me to take the following adult class just like our friends do, I asked for next steps etc. The person responding said "absolutely, no problem! See you tomorrow!". Our kids lesson went well, then my friend and I put our kids in the playroom and went to take the adult class together. I was there 20 min prior to class starting and no one spoke to me or had me fill out paperwork so I guessed the papers I had done for my kids with my name on them included me as well. I partook in the class for 30 minutes before the wife suddenly scolded me like a child saying "get off the mat! you cannot just show up for any class you want and disturb everyone!" I was so confused as I had just spoken to someone the day before about coming to that session & had been taking the class seriously while I was there. I asked her nicely what she would like for me to do and she told me "you can sit and watch" & repeated that I can't just show up & join any class i want. I then realized she thought I had crashed the class and tried to kindly remind her "oh I'm the one who texted you yesterday" To which she waved her hand for me to stop talking and turned around to continue her phone conversation with her friend. I was so shocked. I then got my kids from downstairs and packed up. On the way out, I decided to show her the text messages I had from the day before where I was told I was welcome to come and she still said "well, *I* never spoke to you" then she found the texts in HER OWN phone and goes "oh, you spoke to my daughter... " and realizing her mistake adds in "but you still cannot bring your kids here that's only for kids who are enrolled".... I replied with not only did no one tell me that, but I was TRYING to enroll them. To which she snapped, "well, come back Saturday then", smiled, and that was that. I later thought about coming back and decided I couldn't enroll my children at a martial arts studio that cannot take accountability for their mistakes as that is a core principle I try to instill in my children. Instead, I personally reached out reexplaining the misunderstanding and how disappointed we felt as my kids and I had been excited to enroll. I was hoping she would at the very least acknowledge her mistake and we could move past it. I wasn't even going to leave a review and stated that in my text. But 5 days later and she never even responded to me at all. My father is a black belt, I grew up visiting my grandma in Japan, her father, my uncles and aunts were all as well - their family samurai sword hung in their home my childhood. I was always taught that accountability was a fundamental core value in martial arts but I guess not here. Very sad experience because our hopes were so high.
