I didn't know this before signing up for classes at this campus and I wish I had. Here's why: - The majority of students in the class are high schoolers. And generally this isn't a terrible thing. But there is an obvious gap in maturity level between adults and teenagers. Take my Spanish class for instance: My teacher takes up our cellular phones before we take tests. Never had that in any other college course or any other HCC campus. It's a bit humiliating. - The teachers tend to adapt the class for high schoolers. Whenever the students have STARR or SAT tests approaching, class is cancelled. I understand that they're kids. I'm not a monster (I'm a Bison). But if this is a college course, they need to get a taste of the real world. The world doesn't stop because you have a test. You've gotta bust those books! - The facilities are limited. There is a computer lab with ample computers and a library. However, there is not bookstore and the administrators at the front desk are of little to almost no help at all. I came to this campus because the Spanish teacher that teaches here came highly recommended. And it is very much worth it to be a part of her class. However, I have found that the other classes I have taken here are very much lacking in substance. On the plus side, parking is ample....because most of the students can't drive.

I have taken all of Dr. Manousso's training except the initial 40 hour & family law training which I took through the Harris county dispute resolution center. In fact, I repeated her elder mediation training in 2022 because I wanted a refresher & to learn more. My biggest complaint about her elder mediation training is that I wish it was 10 hours longer to discuss how to deal with diffcult, angry people at mediation. Once you take her class, you can repeat the class for free - what a generous offer! I might not agree with her on everything but she has a passion and commitment to elevate the field of mediation. For full disclosure, she refers her family law cases with children to me since I've also been a licensed TX attorney over 33 years. I take at least 15 hours of advanced mediation training each year. Each year I take legal continuing legal training classes & advanced mediation training to continue to elevate my skills. Every teacher's approach is a bit different. Even after 20 years, I'm still learning. I refer many people to Dr. Manousso for her trainings. Unfortunately in TX I'm aware of some unethical people that take people's money but deliver an inferior product. In summary, only take a training by a trainer endorsed by the Texas Mediator Trainers Roundtable (TMTR). I encourage people to take mediation training from different people because each trainer's approach is unique and each brings different strengths to the training process.

I recently attended an event at this College of Law and wanted to say what a lovely hidden gem it…read moreis. I had never really taken any notice of the building downtown until this past week. I guess one of the organizers for the event had a friend at the college of law, because the event I went to had nothing to do with law or the college. There is a lovely space on the 6th floor that has a large outdoor garden and terrace. Our event was great, but what really made it a fun evening was the space. The garden outside (sorry no photos) has a variety of places to sit and stand. There are potted plants, benches, and it wraps around the building. From the terrace you can see the Toyota Center, and it looks out toward Discovery Green even though you can't see the green itself. You can also see off to EaDo and parts of downtown. If I was given the chance, I would definitely go to or host an event there again. Anywhere with an open rooftop terrace downtown is a winner in my book, especially on a cool breezy February evening!

It is the oldest law school in Houston and the third oldest (est. 1923) in all of Texas; that's a pretty big feat (everything's bigger in...oh you know) considering the size of this State. South Texas College of Law was one of my top choices of law schools to attend. I had participated in an orientation for prospective students a few months before applying and fell in love with the facilities that this school provided. Their library is extensive, their decor is aesthetically pleasing, and they boast state of the art facilities. First off, the law school is separated into two buildings, the tower and the library. The tower houses all the classrooms and Professor offices; the library portion houses, well, the library and study rooms. I'll start with what makes/breaks the tower side. First off, the rooms are considerably advanced as far as technology. They have flat screen televisions and computers as well as a plug for laptops at each chair in the room. The one negative about the classrooms is that the wireless, for some reason, does not reach for the majority of classrooms. This could be looked as a positive, though, for those who find internet a distraction. The library is a great place, though...at least when you're not having to study. The wireless reaches on every level (once you actually figure out how to get it working) and the study rooms provide a substantial hiding place for extensive studies; most everyone is accommodating to the need for quiet. Each floor of the library has around nine tables complete with lamps that have ethernet plugs and power outlets built into them; the chairs aren't too shabby for comfort either. I love the fact that each floor has walls of windows that look out to the Toyota Center and the hustle & bustle below; this blows other schools out of the water when it comes to libraries (*cough* Rice *cough*, sorry but your library is claustrophobic). The public is allowed to use our library with a valid ID shown to the front desk security. One of my favorite spots in the school is the patio on the roof of the library. It is an amazing place to relax and take in the wonderful weather afforded us every once in awhile in Texas; sometimes you can even find someone talking about topics other than the upcoming finals or law school in general (that is always a relief, who wants to talk about law school while we're standing on top of the law school?) The staff is always willing to work with you on anything you need. They all seem to support you and push to give you everything necessary for a positive atmosphere; Lord knows we law school kids need it! During each finals period the school provides a masseuse that sits in the foyer and gives massages by appointment. The thing that had drawn me to this school is the fact that every lawyer I talk to tells me South Texas not only teaches you the law but it is the only school that teaches you how to be a lawyer. Case in point, the Moot Court team is #1 in the nation with over 100 wins (even over Harvard). If you're going to have to put yourself through hell (a.k.a law school in general) then you might as well attend a school you actually enjoy being in.

I did receive antibiotics and an IV, One of the ladies told me on the phone that was fine and she re- enrolled me in the courses to start over, Then I start getting text messages from another lady in the office saying that my note did not suffice and they needed One that was itemized, showing the reason that I was at the doctor in the first place. This is against HIPAA law, and they were trying to make me pay to do The courses again. Then they text me again offering for me to pay $100 to redo only day two as a "favor" This was completely invasive, and I felt like I was being interrogated for why I went to the doctor, Mind you I had a doctors note to prove that I was there, I'm 39 years old and never experienced this even as a High school student. The letter had the clinic letterhead on it, and was signed by the nurse, I called the nurse and she said to have them call her, but she would not be discussing why I was there because it's against HIPAA. Needless to say money down the drain and I will not be returning to the school I cannot believe how attacked I felt over me getting sick. It was very strange..... To say the least You're also complete full of it with your response, there is a physician and it's a wellness clinic allowed to administer iv and antibiotics, I didn't miss class to go get Botox. I filed a claim with the dept of health and human services so please don't attempt to be professional now ..... direct violation of my hipaa rights and I have doctors notes and receipts to back everything up. Your response is complete and total bs!
