Our toddler started at SolBe on day one of the school opening. We had very high hopes after our…read moreinterview, despite the cost being much higher than the alternatives. For the added expense, we were promised minute by minute updates, a two-to-one ratio of teachers to students, and a focus on education that could be overlooked elsewhere. Unfortunately, despite an excellent experience with the Director and our son's first teacher, a significant change was made after a few months. The Director, along with many more staff members, were replaced, and the focus seemed to shift notably towards higher profits and cost cutting measures. Our son was moved into a much larger room where there were often two teachers for eight babies, even after they showed up late. The stress put on the staff still making an effort meant that the "minute-by-minute" updates through the app were ignored until the afternoon when they played catch up while all the kids were napping. Often, we wouldn't find out if our son had eaten or had a diaper change until hours after he'd been picked up. The high ratio also contributed to clothes being lost or ruined with art materials unsuitable for infants, diaper changes being skipped, brusies and scrapes, and a near weekly changeover of staff who were clearly frustrated with the experience as well. Our son's class shared a changing room with another, and it was very common to hear the teachers there, unaware they were being observed, repeatedly screaming at the toddlers "everyone come here" and "be quiet". Another thing for prospective families to consider is that SolBe considers themselves a school first and a daycare second. On the average month, SolBe closes around three working days for holidays, conferences, and "teacher enrichment", meaning that working parents will suddenly have a child to account for (not even to mention the frequency that they contact you and ask you to bring your child home early because they "seem like they're not feeling so well', with no other symptoms than a low fever and a lack of energy; a very common experience for young kids). Obviously, the monthly cost is the same regardless of how many days they actually care for your child. Ultimately, we found another center that is offering 5 nine-hour days a week for the same price that SolBe was charging for 3 seven-hour visits. The new school doesn't have a fancy app or gourmet lunches, but we feel our child is a lot more than just an income source in their eyes, and we're much happier. Now, he runs out the door and into his classroom. This 2 years old ability to love others and accept himself is on full display not only at Solbe, but also at the park, the supermarket, and on trips, where he greets everyone with a smile and a "Hello!" As parents, I am most grateful for : Solbe's nutrition system, the best in the US. Three meals a day, chefs prepare fresh, nutritious, and varied menus, allowing our young children to experience a wide variety of foods and get the most nutrition. So I can forgive myself when I serve him just chicken nuggets at dinner :) Furthermore, from such a young age, the teachers provide new art experiences every day. My son loves drawing, talking, singing, dancing, and running around--all of these activities are spontaneous and active. Thanks to Solbe, his brain, mind, and motor skills have developed remarkably, and most importantly, he seems very happy. So I can forgive myself when I let him watch TV before dinner time :) I am grateful to the teachers and staff who provide the world's best early education, nutrition, with a big love spirit and we truly appreciate their professionalism.

My daughter has excelled and as a first time parent with no family in the area, they coached us through major milestones like potty training. I was nervous to leave her on her first week and got pictures and videos to reassure that she was doing well and making new friends. My child looks forward to going to school and we learned how special PB is when we went to a nearby summer program after the school year was over. She asked everyday to go back to PB. They also have special events and shows for holidays. There was even a special Mother's and Father's Day gift that we'll cherish forever.

Needless to say, I was quite nervous about leaving her for the first time ever. And as it turned out, the nervousness was needless as well. The wonderful thing about a co-op preschool is that parents take an active role in the running of it. Everyday a different parent helps out in the classroom. This provides an excellent opportunity to view your child in the classroom environment. You get to know and play with your child's classmates. You get to see the teachers in action. And your child gets the pleasure of showing you all that they do in school every day. But you don't have to worry about it being some huge time commitment. Since there are 14 - 16 kids in the class it works out to about once a month that a parent has to help out in class. And if you trade off with your partner, that means just one half day every other month you'd need to be there. Besides the co-op structure, other features I love about the Children's Coo-op: * low student/teacher ratio (in the younger class it's 14 students with 2 full-time teachers, 1 part-time teacher, and 1 parent helper), and the teachers are all wonderful * play-based curriculum - they're NAEYC accredited * great facilities - sunny rooms, fun playground * location location location - right in Newton Center, across the street from Starbucks, down the street from the T, ample free parking * flexible schedule - in addition to the normal school hours, 9 - 12 every morning (except Wednesdays for the younger class) they have early drop off and late stay day options My daughter loves school. I did not want to write this review, in fact 4 months ago I contacted Primrose corporate to provide…read morethis feedback and all they did was forward it to the center with zero intention of actually helping them. They were was nice and responsive when we were first signing up. We could not see the place due to Covid, which was not a huge deal. However, as soon as we signed up and they had my deposit, it seemed as though every question I had annoyed them. Once we started, it got worse. While they were always very responsive, I felt like I was talked to like a moron. I do have a traumatic brain injury and I don't remember things as well as others but the way they spoke to me was not acceptable. I became afraid of asking questions, something that no parent should ever be. Certainly not the kindness that Primrose preaches for its students. A few weeks in, I was ready to cut my losses and run. However, my daughter was doing OK and we decided to stick out the year. I do want to point out that safety and Covid protocol was AWESOME. The teachers were also great but the turnover was insane. While I understand some turnover my daughter had 5-6 different assistant teachers in her 9 months there. I could not even tell you how many teachers she had since we were not always kept up to date on who the teacher was/when teachers left etc. While we were always required to (and did) follow the rules it seems as though the center itself didn't need to follow their own rules and keep us up to date on changes to teachers. This year my daughter is constantly afraid when new teachers come in her new school's classroom, she seems to literally traumatized by the revolving door of teachers from last year. In the time we were there I received zero calls about my daughter having a behavior or sickness issue, we are not a problematic family. However, I never received her evaluations on time and I had to wait months and escalate before I got them. One evaluation they sent her home with some other kid's report and I sent it back and asked for ours, which I got 3 months later. To top it all off, you are not allowed to speak to teachers or other parents. You can't have their contact info (even with permission) and the app they use goes right to the main office and teachers aren't allowed to respond. It wasn't until they realized that we were going to leave as soon as the school year was over that they started being nice again. But honestly, I could not do another year at the school as a parent even though the Private K program was perfect for us. I know this school is still pretty new to the area and I think eventually the way parents (and my guess is teachers given the turnover) are treated is going to catch up with it. It's a shame because the education and program that Primrose has is awesome.
