I was recently here to attend my friend's hockey game at Carleton Ice House, so my review is about setting foot on campus for the first time as a visitor. Getting to Carleton Ice House from my hotel in east Ottawa was straightforward. What I find to be a bold move is that there is a roundabout on campus. University Drive runs east-west at first, but you take the roundabout to continue on this street to head north-south. Nothing like messing with prospective students who are trying to do a campus tour and have to deal with a crazy roundabout perhaps for the first time. Same goes with first-year students who have enough to deal with that a roundabout may be intimidating to them, causing them to avoid it at all costs and yearn for a normal intersection. I frankly like roundabouts. They are efficient. I find them enjoyable because I grew up in a non-roundabout community. It was a pleasant surprise using one here. Ottawa, in general, has its parking act together, compared to some major Canadian cities. You pay for parking with an app at any parking lot on campus. You can either download the app (I'd recommend it if you are here often) or use the browser on your phone if you are an infrequent visitor like me. It works. It's efficient. I had a great experience using it to park. The Carleton Ice House is a wonderful hockey facility. It took me by surprise that it houses two NHL-sized ice rinks. It was great taking in a few games, including my friend's hockey game that I came to see. It is a state-of-the-art hockey facility with a sports therapy clinic. My friend and I had dinner at Lansdowne Park after his game. It was ridiculously close by. I liked my brief visit to this university. It has a nice balance of parks and buildings. It's also cool that the university is bounded to the north by the Rideau Canal and Dow's Lake, and to the south by the Rideau River. It was nice getting a brief introduction to the university while I was on vacation. It was totally unplanned and a pleasant surprise! I doubt that I'd ever get a doctorate degree here, but never say never, as the saying goes. (248)

Despite that I had excellent reviews and 2 of the 3 people I supported agreed to be references for me. I went off on sick leave, and when I was able to return, they had reorganized the office and eliminated my position. A coworker told me that they actually created 3 full time positions to cover the work I had been doing. HR told me there were no equivalent positions and I would have to take a lower paying job. Then they offered me off with a paltry payout to leave their employment. I admit I agreed to take it and never return, but that was due to the fact that they said the offer was no longer available if I left the meeting. I should have consulted a lawyer. My fault. HORRIBLE place to work!

The light switch in the kitchen didn't turn on the lights in the kitchen, they turned on the lights in the bathroom on the other side of the unit (logic?). I stayed for a year in a four bedroom and two bathroom unit. But what annoyed the hell out of me was the layout. There was a bedroom by itself near the front door, with a bathroom right beside it. And then on the other side of the apartment there were the other three bedrooms with one bathroom. So basically one roommate gets their own bathroom while the other three share, and if the one roommate by them self is logical and offers to share with someone, there is a fight over which one of the three will have to walk all the way to the other side to use the bathroom.... Idk where the logic is in that layout. Wouldn't it make more sense to have two bedrooms and one bathroom together?? This layout caused many issues between the four people in the unit I was in. Absolutely ridiculous.

People that live in this University of Ottawa residence are mostly first-year students, and is…read morecommonly called "HySo". These apartment-style suites are two, three, or four bedrooms, with single to twin beds. Each suite has one or two bathrooms, a living and dining room, and a kitchen, with a stove, microwave, and fridge. Phone and Internet services are included, but the laundry facility downstairs needs a laundry card. A major complaint is that laundry cards are $5 each, and when you want to reload it, you can only put $10 or $20 bills in the machine, and you have to use up the money on the card, otherwise you can't get the rest of the balance back. What's extra convenient, however, is the Second Cup on the first floor of the building. The staff members are either current or newly graduated students, all very friendly and efficient. This coffee shop is also filled with students on a daily basis, as you would expect.

My neighbour seems really happy with their service however that is not why I chose to write this review. I have dealt with many contractors over the years and never have a had a team be so incredibly courteous. No matter who you are talking to they are friendly and accommodating. All the neighbours have been talking and this feeling is universal. Just a small example, they are working in our driveway and have fencing around the whole. Our door is down the driveway and I asked that when they are done for the day they make sure to push the fence away from our house so that my wife can get the stroller down the driveway even if no one is there to help. They were totally understanding and every single day since the fencing has been pushed back. The organizational culture of service is truly incredible. Kudos to everyone there.

Declining our requested viewing of the apartment, she says in this email, she just wants the deposit and cannot show the unit. They asked for $3000 to be etransfered to the email address pow3@paramountapts.com. They promised a one bedroom apartment unit for $1500/month. They threatened to give the apartment to someone else if we did not send them the money right away. They refused to verify that the apartment is even real, by showing the apartment. They wanted the money via etransfer, and wanted our personal information via email. The impact of this incident is that I cannot move to Ottawa, as was my plan. The apartment that we were promised seems like it doesn't exist. We already gave up our current apartment and are now forced to get emergency help from Queen's University (our institute of learning). If we did not insist on a viewing prior to paying the deposit we could have lost $3000. While applying for an apartment with Paramount Properties, prior to paying the deposit, I requested a viewing of the apartment to ensure validity of the listing. I was told, by Jhada Ward, that a viewing cannot be done as there is still an occupant in the unit. Her excuse was that he works from home and needs appointments made with him to do viewings. As per the Landlord Tenant Board (LTB) once a tenant has given notice to leave, they only need to be sent a 24hr notice of entry and the property can show the unit to potential renters. Jhada also disclosed that this tenant is a problem tenant and refuses entry and viewings, and "that is why it has taken so long to rent the unit because he is uncooperative". Jhada expected me to send money over the internet, without even showing me that there is an apartment available. Because we asked for this viewing, Jhada stated the unit would be rented to someone else because they came in today and put a deposit down. He got the apartment without a background check or credit check, literally an hour after we told her we required a viewing before paying the deposit. We had to fill out an application, giving our personal information and we had to wait for a background check to be completed, but this person was able to pay money and get the apartment, without any background checks being done. This evidence shows that there was no real apartment available and as soon as we asked to verify the apartment before sending a couple thousand dollars, the apartment became unavailable. Originally, I was being asked to send an etransfer of $3000 for a one bedroom apartment at the Prince of Wales Complex. Jhada wanted $3000 to be sent to cover two months rent as the deposit, instead of the legal one month's rent deposit. I was not sent an official offer letter (via email) that my application was completed and approved, simply a phone call from Jhada asking for $3000. I was also refused the option of paying the deposit with a certified cheque from the bank. I offered to have the certified cheque sent via courier (with next day delivery), however that option was declined as well. It is clear, that this individual just wanted to con me out of a lot of money. It was also suspicious that Jhada was renting this unit for a May 1st move in with the promise of a deep clean on the carpet, painting of the walls and general repairs on the unit, however, if a tenant is occupying the unit until the end of the month, how can the renovations, painting, cleaning, carpet deep clean, etc. occur in time for a May 1st move in. More evidence of this being a scam.

The staff is wonderful, welcoming and friendly and the 2 problems I had upon moving in (2 clogs were drained before using them and part of my blinds were broken) I put a work order in and that same day it was fixed My buzz to cell phone hasn't been installed yet despite it being 20 days and the indoor pool is being renovated so I haven't been able to use it but besides those few inconveniences I am in total love. Everyone I encounter is friendly, the laundry upstairs was convenient, the apartment is beautiful and the garbage area downstairs is constantly being monitored and cleaned up. I've just seen a few spiders but no other bugs, the rent is affordable. I agree the stove does look like it's from the 80s but it gets the job done and I usually use my air fryer anyhow. I haven't had an electricity bill yet so I hope that isn't too high but either way I am happy I moved here. The bus runs often enough and early enough for me to start my 6am shifts, Amazon can be delivered to my door step still which I was worried about since I shop on Amazon lots No power outages, alarms or anything like that since moving in 20 days ago.

Stay away. Had a…read moreLennox furnace installed with humidifier in late 2015, but I use another company (a Lennox specialist) for annual maintenance. When my maintenance guy came a year later he pointed out a number of errors made with the installation, and I had to call Reid back to make some corrections. They weren't happy, particularly when I told them that I was using somebody else for maintenance, even suggesting that my warranty was void if I did not use Reid for the annual maintenance. They eventually came and made a half-hearted effort to address the installation errors, but my maintenance guy says that it's still not to code. More recently, I had a problem with the humidifier function. Reid confirmed that it too was covered by the furnace warranty (parts only) but I would have to pay $140 for a diagnostic visit and possibly another $140 for them to come back and install the necessary part, if they didn't have it readily available in the truck on the first visit. I said I didn't understand why I would have to pay for a second visit. The woman on the phone was quite rude and said I was free to call someone else if I didn't like those terms. Which I did. I will never do business with that company again.

We brought him to court, showed the email evidence, and the judge ruled against him and ordered him to return the deposit. He still has not done so.

I chose SOG 3 years ago to paint my condo and was very happy with the work and price. When I moved…read moreout I hired them again to paint it back to neutral. I couldn't have had a worse experience. First they put the paint date in the wrong calendar spot so it wasn't painted on time. I just had the place cleaned. I told them I expected it left as they found it. I came back to a disaster. Dust everywhere (floors and counters). None of the touch ups done. Paint in the sinks. The stove unplugged and white smeared over the oven door and areas on the walls missed. Needless to say after a lot of unneeded delays (I live 2min from the location) I was never allowed to inspect before the left which kept adding a day before I could see it with the owner of SOG, Daniel, and then when problems were found they would have to add another day or two to get someone back so it just dragged out the process needlessly. I had paid 30-40% down. I eventually got them to clean the place and get the work finished to my satisfaction a week later. I promptly paid the remainder and was told I would get an invoice. That never happened. I texted Daniel and he said he'd send it that night. A week went by and no invoice and he's not returning calls, text or email. I will be contacting the BBB. I'm so terribly disappointed by such un professional behaviour in a Riches to Rags story. How the mighty have fallen. Sad. Very sad. :(
