This review is long overdue. Shoutouts to NURSE AMY and NURSE LAURA for being AMAZING during my mother's hip replacement surgery (it was done last year in March and my mother is walking great now). Especially with Nurse Amy, she went above and beyond the call of duty as a nurse. She not only stayed in great communication with us, but also did everything she could to make my mother and my family (we visited as much as possible after her surgery and for discharge) to feel comfortable, heard, and taken care of. Also, the surgeons, MA's, front office assistants, and other nurses were wonderful, welcoming, and very kind. Pre-op we were nervous about the surgery and several surgeons and nurses talked us through it. Post op, my mother puked from a reaction (I think the meds or just post-op surgery response) and the nurses never once got upset with her or us, instead they did their best to help her through it and recover. These people are truly MIRACLE WORKERS and my mother is now in great shape (for years (before this surgery) she could not walk without pain or limping). THANK YOU!!! :) read more

Doctor Brian T Andrews Neurosurgery and Chairman of the California Pacific Neuroscience Institute (CPNI) at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) and is the founder of this facility. They put you in a curtained guerney area next to 3 other curtained patients. All the while open surgeries (maybe 3) in one room approximately 80 feet by 80 feet taking place. The front desk staff whom I visited a few weeks prior to my hand surgery were ever so caring and reassuring. However with the other nightmare posts I will agree it's all a front. I believe Dr Andrews may have been one of the top Surgeon's in his time, but it's time to put the scalpel down. Photo depicts botched hand surgery and was not casted and simply put a bandaid upon completion of surgery. No post PT for five months due to the healing process. read more

One suggestion - provide the aftercare instructions both before and after the procedure - I was too out of it to review them carefully after the procedure & the next day saw that I'd transgressed a few instructions. read more

Hip Replacement Best experience ever! From the intake nurse, Bob, who was excellent and kind, to the anesthesiologist, Dr. La, who called the night before, visited before surgery & did a great job and the crème de la crème, orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Robert Mayle & his PA, Sally Liu. Dr. Mayle did his magic on my very compromised hip--outpatient surgery and my recovery could not be going better. Almost no pain, a horizontal incision and great in-home PT. I was scheduled for a procedure at the Presidio Surgery Center, which is located amongst several medical buildings in the area. From downtown the 38 Geary stops a block away. The Center also validates parking in the building's garage. You pre-register online which expedites the check-in process when you arrive. The staff at the Center are very friendly. Upon arrival, the receptionist checks you in and takes care of the paperwork and any necessary payments. Then Rebecca, the RN, walks me to a prep room for some procedural questions and provided me the gowns for changing. Afterward, she returns and walks me back to the prep area where she and Trish preps me with the IV. During this time, you're kept comfortable with warm blankets. The anesthesiologist comes by to discuss the process for my procedure. Then my Doctor comes to see how I'm doing and reassures me the procedure will be quick and painless. During the waiting time, the nurses come to check how I'm doing and status of my procedure. When it's time, they walk you to the procedure room and they reassure you that you are under the best care. Before I know it, the procedure was done and I awoke back in the prep room. They give you refreshments and crackers. When you are ready, you get dressed and they take you to the garage where my sister was waiting to drive me home. The staff was very friendly and professional. I had full hip replacement surgery here in April. It's not a full hospital so you cannot stay more than 24 hours. I checked in around noon and left the following morning. They were very attentive and I have no complaints. It's we'll run and everyone is very professional. That said I hope I never have to go back! read more

This is the fourth time I have had surgery at the Presidio Surgery Center within the last 12 years. My overall experience has been outstanding each time. Three different doctors from a San Francisco UCSF practice have performed four different (separate) procedures on me using Presidio Surgery Center. On this last particular hip replacement procedure, each one of the Staff, Nurses, PAs and especially the Surgeon and Anesthesiologist were extremely courteous, caring, efficient and professional. Although I do not desire needing another surgery/procedure, IF a repair or replacement is necessary on a joint, bone/cartilage, tendons or nerves on any of my arms, legs or extremities, Presidio Surgery Center would absolutely be the place I would want the procedure performed at! From the minute I walked I was warmly greeted and efficiently checked in. While I was am hour early, they went ahead and got me to my preop bed where I was able to use their WiFi up until the minute I was walked back to my surgery suite. The next thing I remembered was waking up I'm recovery, where I was offered a beverage and snack. They did not rush me at all and I was the last patient of the day. A dramatic improvement over other hospital experiences in SF especially compared to UCSF or St Marys or Kaiser!!! All of which I either experienced in recent years as a patient, or as a responsible caregiver for a patient. If you have any choice in the matter, try to find and engage a surgeon affiliated with the Presidio surgery center! Take the time to find a good surgeon. UCSF isn't even in the same league for primary care and outpatient and major surgery, as at Presidio/Sutter/CPMC!! The surgeon I had differed greatly from the majority of those at UCSF that I've observed, in that his English and communications were native-speaker quality, and he willingly provided all the information desired, at any point in the process. Totally different from so many MDs at StMarys or UCSF!! read more

Outpatient services. The center is in the middle of a busy area of SF... underground parking right at the center, between Sutter St. & Post St. *Save your ticket, and you can get it validated. The staff are awesome! I had Dr. Field as my anesthesiologist, and Donna Chin as my Post-Op RN. Both were very professional, and Donna... well, she was very attentive to all my needs, professional, and kind. I really liked her. The facility itself is clean, and they get you in/out quickly. You can also pre-register for your surgery online, which makes the process run even more quickly. Highly recommend. read more

There aren't enough stars to award. Today I was given the epidermal steroid injections by Dr Ignatius. The good doctor made me feel like a friend who had come to visit as he expertly administered those dosages required to relieve what had been, for me, very serious pain. The whole staff were highly professional and what was very important to me was that they were so very kind. I've been around a long time and I can tell when kindness is a true attribute of a person. To be honest, words really fail me as I try to express how good and grateful I feel about Dr. Ignatius and the staff at Presidio Surgery Center. read more

Having worked in medical settings for years as a physical therapist, I know something about what quality health care looks like. I was very impressed with this facility. It is clear that there are thoughtful policies and procedures in place and that they are followed. This speaks to serious supervision and high standards. Further, it appears that all the staff appreciate being able to work in a setting where high expectations are consistent. Mind you I am well aware that provision of care is now measured by patient satisfaction rather than rather than clinical outcomes. It is clear that the staff go out of their way to "be nice" but in doing so, they are better aware of patients' individual needs and act accordingly, not just parrot some scripted responses. I never got the feeling someone wasn't listening to me. Not to mention that my lumbar epidural was handled expertly by Dr. Ignatius and the nursing staff. I traveled 20 miles to get treatment there but I would travel much farther if needed to get such quality medicine. read more

I had one minor hiccup, which was not related to the surgery center itself; it was the female security who was taking the temperatures and rudely interacting with patients who were entering the building. My nurses were great and my surgeon was incredible.The one star review Is due to the fact that they're billing department overbilled me so much that they reached my out of pocket max for the year, then demanded I pay that up front or no surgery. My insurance advised me that they were billing way to much and asked me to have them call in for a closer number. They responded by telling me that they don't have to justify anything to me. They strong armed me into paying 2 thousand up front, or risk blowing the surgery. It was then also advised to me by the insurance that when companies do this, they are just trying to get as much money up front then reimburse once they get paid by the insurance. Truly is a shame because if they have done it to me, they have done it to others as well. Be careful and watch your bill here. I will now have to wait a month for an audit procedure to take place to be reimbursed because they refused to spend ten minutes on the phone verifying the contracted billing codes . read more

Presidio Surgery Center was just as I expected it - a well oiled machine that works very smoothly. I had several conversations with them prior to my surgery - a call about benefits and insurance coverage which was extremely helpful, calls about my medical history, instructions for the day of surgery, etc. When I arrived on the day of my knee surgery, I was greeted promptly, filled out some final forms, and was taken in to change into my scrubs and have my vitals taken. Next up I was in a recliner getting an IV started, and a few minutes later I was in the operating room and the anesthesiologist was telling me that I'd feel a little sting and burn - and I woke up about 90 minutes drooling and calling out my husband's name. The kindness and efficiency of the staff, along with the gestures like warm blankets, saltines and cups of water post-op to hold down the nausea, painkillers and ice packs - all added to my positive feelings. The post-surgery nurse spent some time with my husband going over my instructions to make sure he understood everything (since I was in no shape to understand anything) that needed to be done once I was home. I would've given them five stars but for the attitude of one nurse. He was clearly overworked and stressed out, but dude - don't give me attitude when I haven't eaten in 16 hours and am about to undergo general anesthesia to have some fairly serious surgery, OK? Otherwise, a very positive experience and I definitely recommend it if you need to have some minor surgery. read more

I thought my outpatient arthroscopic knee surgery experience was going to be like being processed through a chop shop, but I was pleasantly surprised. Every staff person from the front desk check-in babe to the nurses and anesthesiologist were all chipper and patient and attentive. It was like the Michael Minna version of a hospital experience, with no less than five people attending to me at any given time. I especially appreciated the efficiency, the heated blankets they wrapped me in before surgery, and the fact that they didn't laugh at my babbling when coming out of anesthesia (speaking Italian, asking if I could see my surgery on YouTube, calling the anesthesiologist my boyfriend's name). Unlike Michael Minna, however, I hope I never have to go here again. The only thing keeping me from giving them 5 stars is that they don't call you with your estimated copay until the day before surgery. Both in my case and in a coworker's case, we unexpectedly owed about $1,500! A huge added worry that I didn't appreciate. However, they will work with you. read more

I'm not a big fan of being drugged to the point of blackin out but when you need surgery...that's what they do! I recently had knee surgery and it went great. From the time I walked into the waiting room to the time I left, everything was fantastic. The staff was nice and attentive. They didn't stick me in a room and leave me to ponder what was about to happen for hours on end. I was brought from one station to the next in and very controlled and well planned out path to the operating room. I was able to meet the nurse that was assisting on the surgery as well as the anesthesiologist to discuss my options. Everyone was nice, professionals and made me feel good. I entered the OR and the people in there just struck a conversation as they prepped me. Before I knew what was happening, I was loaded and the asleep. I woke up an hour later feeling fine and eating crackers...not bad! If at anytime in my life I ever need surgery again, I pray it will be here and with this staff!! read more

I was very happy with this place. Nice, clean lobby and waiting room. The front desk staff was ok, not that friendly or helpful, and not particularly empathetic given that I was obviously in pain. They seemed more interested in gossip and chatting with each other than in finding me a suitable place to sit. That said, I will not let the inattention of the front desk staff significantly diminish this center's score. The equipment was very state of the art and they had lots of nice touches like comfortable pre-open room essay chairs and an easy exit from the surgery center right into the parking garage. Apparently, I will be repeating much of what has been already written here but why not? I have only accolades for PSC. From the moment I entered until the last nurse walked us to the car and waved goodbye, I felt very much at ease and cared for. You should know that I have been dreading this surgery for months and had all of my friends and family whipped up into near hysteria in concern for me. Therefore, I felt a bit sheepish sending out a group text that stated "everything went fine! no problems." I've yet to hear back. . .wonder why. But enough about me! In all seriousness, surgery is no fun, but PSC made the entire experience (I cannot even say "ordeal") manageable. Everyone was very calm and friendly. They answered any and all questions. And if you have any fears about surgery I can tell you that once the anesthesiologist gives you the drip you will not remember anything. All rather lovely, actually. I also must give a big round of applause to my ENT Dr. Gary Rust who made the effort to apply for surgery privileges at PSC in order to perform my sinus surgery. Apparently, it's a long process, but he and his office undertook it for me. So. . . big thanks to Dr. Rust and another big thanks to the staff, nurses, and very cool anesthesiologist at PSC. First Class Experience My outpatient surgery on Dec 28th at Presidio Surgery Center was about as good as surgery can get. I was very comfortable throughout my entire stay from check-in through recovery. A few noteworthy things from a day I don't remember completely: * The nursing staff exuded warmth, compassion, and attention to detail. It's more like a spa than a hospital! The IV tech/nurse is so good you may not realize you just had an IV inserted! * The staff was very accommodating with my wife asking for my 2 year old son to visit me in recovery (thankfully my toddler was well behaved!). * The parking spot immediately outside the recovery area makes discharge exceptionally easy (CPMC Pacific should take notes on this). * The atmosphere is very relaxing and confidence inspiring. * You have a recovery nurse assigned to you, but, that doesn't stop the other nurses from checking up on your comfort level when they pass you.
