We try and avoid Walmart as, well its Walmart. But considering there is only one small independent grocery or this... The little store is fine, but they are always WAY overpriced. I realize they are not able to buy in the bulk that the big stores do. But its 3 or 4 times higher. I just cant/dont want to spend that $$$. So, this Walmart, WORST in at lease 30 states that we have been to. I think I discovered 2 or 3 English speaking employees. Thats it. But the clientele calls for Spanish speakers so there ya go. Now I'm not trying to start a race discussion. Thats not my point, or who I am. The point is, out of all the registers they have available they had 2, that's TWO open. On a busy weekend day. So my husband stands in one of them and I go explore the possibility of the other. Both seem equally horrid, so he stays put. Neither line moves for a good 5 minutes. Up I go to investigate what is going on. The line we were in, the customer did not have enough money. Hey it happens. I get it. What I don't get is the cashier standing there looking at the screen. She never had to reverse an item? I've seen them do it. It takes seconds. I'm not execrating when I say it was at least ten minutes. Thats being generous. She stood and staired at the register for that long! So I go back and tell my husband lets try the other line. Hes lined up way back in womans clothes so we find the end of the other line. I walk up front to see what's going on there. Food stamp issue. Or SNAP card or whatever it is now. AGAIN the cashier standing looking at her register as if it will fix itself. I'm reasonably sure they deal with food stamps all day every day. I don't care that the person had the card, not saying that. It was not the customer's fault! Its the brain-dead cashiers. Im again not kidding when I say she was standing there mouth breathing for several minutes! Finally, a "supervisor" comes over. They are both poking at the register. Darn thing wont fix itself!! By some miracle of epic proportions, they figure it out. All tolled we stood at the register in line for 30 minuets. If we didn't need food and other items I would have left after the first 5 minutes of watching the mouth breathing employees. Was this the first day for all 3 employees I saw today? If so dont leave them alone!! When you come here, be prepared to wait, and wait, and wait, and wait. And also, to have any frozen item you have in your cart defrost. The people behind us had two cartons of ice cream. I asked him if I should go back and get a pack of spoons so we could all start eating before it melted to the floor.

This a super small Safeway but it is stocked very well! You can find just about anything you need…read morehere. The selection of produce and meat is very good! And as always Safeway runs lots of sales. But what I like most of all here are the employees! This is the happiest friendliest group I have ever encountered at a Safeway! They always have a smile and are so cheerful. They don't treat you different because you are from out of town. Every customer seems equally important! Great place to stop!

I stood there for a second, not knowing what to do, when a woman came into view and approached the door from the left and yelled out "Push!" She also had an angry look on her face. She was obviously an employee. Why did she act like that? Also, after I pushed the door open, and walked past her, she was saying to the other employee at the other register that even if she puts a "push" sign on the door, they still don't see it. Well, there was no sign on the door, but I think it would have been helpful to have one there. I'[m pretty sure that I would have seen it. It's not the customer's fault if the doors aren't working properly. I can understand when an employee gets frustrated, but she shouldn't have acted like that. I won't be shopping there again, unless I'm really desperate for a food item, which is a pity, since I like the selection of foods there.

(Walmart, 40 miles further, with 'crapshoot' customer service-I never know how I'll be treated). Akins, besides the high-quality food, big inventory, and low prices... excellent staff! Today, I wanted to buy four fresh, 5-pound "Draper Valley Farms" whole chickens, $1.99 a pound. $1.00 PER pound discount. (I saved $20 on the chicken alone) The butcher, COREY, quickly brought out to me, cheerfully, a 4th chicken, since I had bagged the last 3 that were in the cooler. ANDREW checked me out. Smart, polite and focused. He automatically gave me a "Senior Discount", $6.30 on my order total. My total discount on $119.50, $13.54. That's not nothing. (3 gallons of free gas) Obviously, the ownership of "Akins Fresh Market" is all in. Serious. They sell wine and liquor, too.

I remember when Grocery Outlet was just a pile of cans and noodles with no dairy, meat, or produce. It sure has come a long way since then. This location by far is the BEST in the Spokane region. I have been to them all and Cheney is above all others. Great selection, lower prices than Airway Heights location, and always... wonderful customer service. I wish I could go here more as I live far away, but I always go when I can. Cheney has some of the best shopping and food options than anywhere around. I love going there and supporting such a nice and clean city.
