A couple months ago, my friend Kim and I took an Intro to Hand Lettering class with Samantha at Steadfast Supply in DC. Oh that rush hour traffic and $20 parking was sooo worth it! Turns out, Samantha used to be a teacher, and it shows in the way she articulates the class. It was easy to follow her instructions, and she was very hands-on with showing examples. Plus we got a pretty decent set of tools and goodies to take home with us! Since, I've purchased some of her watercolor artwork to hang at home. I am such a fan! The artwork can be found on her website or in various shops in the area. And her classes are actually affordable! Next I want to take her Pointed Pen class!

Sarah was very sweet initially. I only knock off stars because she misspelled almost 1/3 of my…read morewedding guests - over 30 people! She did apologize though but she wasn't willing to redo them since that would be a lot more time & money for her. I also didn't notice and point it out to her until 4 days later. I had typed up the list of guests and so she just wasn't careful when looking at the list and doing the calligraphy. I think she was rushing. The names were also not that hard - Michael was spelled Micheal and my best friend Catherine was written with a K (!?!). I would just recommend checking the spelling immediately before accepting the package. I have to say though - the calligraphy was really pretty and you get what you pay for. If I had paid more for a high end calligrapher they probably would have not misspelled as many people or at least would have redone them, but it would have cost a lot more, and I still got a pretty product. Also Sarah was right in that no one noticed, or at least they didn't say anything to me about the misspellings on my wedding day! So it bothered me initially but wasn't everything. Bottom Line: Sweet person, pretty calligraphy, not good at following directions to spell names correctly, and definitely won't correct any of her mistakes at least if you have already paid her.
