South Pacific Health Club have personal training available as well as group fitness classes. The great thing is they also offer a free trial voucher on their website where you can visit the gym, speak to the trainers and get a feel for the environment. I always find it worthwhile doing this if you are looking to start up a new gym membership, that way you know exactly what your getting for your money and you can speak with the staff one on one.

They have a range of machines to use and lots of them, ranging from tredmills, bikes, cross trainers to weight training equipment and free weights. Fernwood St Kilda also has some great group classes on offer if you are wanting a social option to getting fit and the girls at behind the desk also have breakfast items available for their members to enjoy after their work-outs. Fernwood is female focused in a great way they have plenty of showers, hair dryers, straightners and cleansers pretty much everything you need to have a great work-out and leave looking fresh and ready for the day.

The only bad thing I would say is that their promotions are scams. I got a text offering membership for $15.50 a week. When I went in it was $22 a week. Oh and no windows in the building means it's pretty stinky. They need some Glade Sensations or something. But nonetheless, you can always jump on a machine as there are heaps. There are also no burly muscle guys being weirdos in the corner which is great as that is what usually deters me from joining a unisex gym. Opening hours are also good - until 10pm! Means I can finish work late and still make it.

Kaya is part of that new breed of gym where you really feel like you should be dressed up when you go in - it's just that beautiful. Hardwood floors, geometric architecture, you could confuse this gym with a trendy new Northside cafe. I am addicted to their pilates reformer classes. They are touch but achievable and you honestly feel stronger the next day. They also host Barre classes, boxing classes and a variety of different yoga classes in temperature controlled rooms. One of the coolest things about Kaya (at least in my eyes) is the electronic lockers. At my last gym, I was given a beaten-up key to a grotty locker, but here the lockers are ready for you to input your very own 4-number code. Easy. Simple. Secure. Nidra yoga with Ashleigh here is something everyone should do to get in touch with your inner peace. Its so soothing, almost like a grown up nap time. But it's so so much better than that, like mind out of body stuff. Plus, it's much more rewarding. Yin and meditation was with Derek; yin yoga really focuses on getting to know one pose and learning what is comfortable for you. Being someone who normally does vinyasa, yin is calming, and it's good to stretch yourself in one pose. I walked out feeling like a pigeon pose champ. The barre class. Holy cow, for anyone looking for that dancer-type body, this one's for you. I had zero idea of what I signed up for, except for Google pictures and making up some concept in my mind. The Monday night session with Kirby kicked my butt, well my legs actually. It was so different from what I imagined it'd be like, and a lot more strenuous. I was that person taking little intermittent breaks just to compose myself. Yep, not ashamed, I just was not used to that intensity in a workout. For days following this, my legs felt like straight up jello. Kirby was great, she was extremely motivating and fun, and mixes it up. Matt, the Membership Advisor, is a sweetheart and the perfect go-to person for enquiries and help. I mean, everyone is nice and friendly at Kaya, but Matt was welcoming as well. The location is ideal, convenient for any city folk as it's the top of the emporium and it feels like a sanctuary sitting up there. There is a beautifully clean 50m, 8 lane pool that is indoors & heated year round. The lap lane availability is conveniently accessible online and is updated weekly. There are always a mixture of lane speed allocations (fast, medium, slow and aqua play) to ensure that lap swimmers are not disturbed by those just "playing" or "paddling". There is also a sauna, spa and steam room available. The staff at reception are always warm and friendly. Overall, it's a great local pool for my swimming training! It should also be noted that there is a full gym with group classes and a children's pool for swimming lessons. There are plenty of change rooms, showers and toilets. Check it out if you are looking for a nice clean local pool this summer (or winter - it's heated so no excuses)!

The gym is well equipped with a large variety of machines, weights, balls and mats and many of each too. I rarely had to wait and if I asked (nicely!), other members would be willing to share too. Staff would always say hi and remind you to do reassessments. They were never pushy but motivating and empathetic. I have done at least 5 assessments there with multiple staff and they were all keen to listen and work with your skill level and goals. I've been at 6am, 3pm, 7pm and random days and staff are always welcoming and the members are 98% all friendly and non-judgemental too. I haven't been to the classes but there are tons to choose from but I've been to the pool a few times and I've always had a great swim with minimal people in the change room and maybe 1-2 other people in the swimming lanes. Nice whirlpool/spa area too that is open and relaxing. Easy to get to, fun contests to enter the more you go, tons of parking, helpful staff in the building if you have questions or need to suspend your license, cheapest yoga mat EVER ($15!!), multiple change rooms and community market every Saturday just outside the building too from 8am - 1pm :) While the price is much more than what I've paid at home in Vancouver, I think this was a great value for what I paid here - I would, and have already, recommend this fitness facility to anyone!

Over the years I have been to many different types of gyms from unisex to ladies but all I ended up doing was wasting my money paying membership fees but not actually attending the gym to workout. I decided to give personal training a go perhaps if I have an appointment with someone there is more chance of me turning up. After researching the different options and companies I settled on Adrenalin Health Club and this was the best thing I have ever done with regards to my fitness. The staff at Adrenalin are very friendly and helpful they understand your needs and structure your training to achieve the results you desire. I am fitter and healthy than I have ever been and no longer suffer from any lower back pain. During my time at Adrenalin I have been training with Tim and couldn't be happier (although I might not say that first thing in the morning). Tim is always mixing my training up which keeps it really interesting! Although I wasn't overweight I have lost 5kgs and many inches off my entire body I no longer feel self-conscious and can wear a tank top/bikini in summer to show off my sculpted arms, back and tummy. Firstly: Whoa…read more Secondly: Seriously. Whoa. Bodhi and Ride is a stunning new fitness centre in the heart of Port Melbourne specialising in Hot Yoga, Ride45 (spin class) and meditation. I popped in for a Ride45 this morning after being told "it's nothing like any spin class you've done before." Truer words were never spoken. I walked in to the 'Spin Chamber' and felt like I was in an epic Los Angeles nightclub. Impressive LED lighting, candles, thumping Beyonce and a bunch of gorgeous gals excited for what was ahead. You might think a Ride45 class is just going to be a great cardio workout plus a bit of action for your legs. WRONG. During the class we lifted weights, did tricep push-ups, an ab workout and even semi-squats all while pedalling our little hearts out. Yes, you will need to have some skill in multi-tasking. Throughout all this the music is so loud and practically coursing through your veins that you can't think about anything else - especially the fact that you've got sweat pouring down your face and you are pedalling so hard that you feel like you might take off. The instructor was so damn adorable that I want to be friends with her. She was charming, encouraging but not overbearing and pushy like so many instructors can be. I cannot recommend Bodhi and Ride enough. Simply gorgeous studios and motivating classes. They've definitely got a repeat customer out of me and I live on the other side of the city!
