I'm DISGUSTED with this "hospital." On October 6th, my fiancée got in a motorcycle accident. He was still getting his eligibility for health insurance checked at this time and was not on any insurance when the accident happened. He was still not awake after the accident and an ambulance picked him up and transported him to St. Joseph's. He woke up when he got to the hospital. We were there for a total of 2 hours. They did a cat scan and x rays all over the right side of his body where the bike landed on him. They told him everything looked normal, told him he had a concussion, made him sign paperwork, and made him walk out the door. His ankle was purple and very swollen, his knee was purple and swollen, and he had extreme lacerations all over his body. They told him to take Advil and lay low for the next several days. There was absolutely no patient teaching whatsoever done. They did not tell him how to take care of a concussion, they did not tell him certain things to look out for, and they wrote no prescriptions. He was not given any medicine and they did NOTHING for him. However, on the medical records for his stay, they checked off that they asked over 50 questions about each part of his body and the records state that my fiancée responded that he was in no pain and had no concerns. They also stated that he was completely coherent when he wasn't. He didn't know what day it was and he had no memory of the accident- he still doesn't. We are receiving bills now and so far we're up to $12,000. Thankfully the other guys insurance will be paying. For two hours. Where they did not give him anything or do anything for treatment. When he walked out of the room in extreme visible pain, they made him stand in a line for 30 minutes to sign more paperwork. When I asked for a wheel chair while he waited, the woman at the desk said he looked fine and pointed to chairs across the room. When I started to help him walk over to the chairs, she yelled at me that he needed to sign paperwork first. Several days later, we went to a physician for a follow up. She checked the same x rays and said that the hospital overlooked everything. His PCL is completely torn and his ankle has a crack literally all the way down his talus. She was the one who gave correct patient teaching, told us what to look out for, and gave implications for us so that he could find a way to recuperate. As a nurse myself, I know how things are supposed to go and I'm disgusted with that whole night. They were careless, gave NO implications, no patient teaching, and overlooked everything. I ended up being the one to teach my fiancée everything about his concussion and told him how to take care of the other injuries he sustained since the hospital slacked severely. Obviously I had no problem doing that for my own fiancée, but I'm disgusted with the negligence and the bill for the things they didn't do. This hospital is what's wrong with the industry. I hope people read this review and avoid this pathetic excuse of a hospital at all costs. If you want patient care, you won't get it here. read more
