Butcher shops aren't common as they used to be due to the Internet, advances in mail order and…read moregenerously stocked butcher sections in places like Walmart, supermarkets, etc. I haven't been inside an actual butcher since I was last in NYC. I heard about Meats by John & Wayne; wanting something more than a typical supermarket meat selection, I went there...and was pleased! The selection is quite impressive. While there is a small selection of seafood, what really shines here is all the sausages! There's Cajun sausage, bratwursts, snack sticks, breakfast links, potato sausage and more! There's plenty of pork options, chicken, duck, lamb and buffalo! The service is pretty good as there have two registers active when it is really busy and the amount of traffic I saw in the store convinced me it was a good choice for meats! The "good stuff" was a little higher priced than what I would have liked to have seen for a small town shop. We got a little of 5 different cheeses and loved them all, especially the ghost pepper cheese. I got several New York Strip steaks. I have to say I was disappointed in the strip steak because of the large inedible part of on one of the steaks (the one on the bottom of the stack,) so I didn't notice until I opened the bag at home.

We order from here for a couple reasons. One is because we know that they only use animals that are healthy. Second is because it's much healthier for you as they don't add fillers or use animals that are overly medicated (as the big market slaughter houses do).

I am thinking that this jerky was once a local resident of the area at one time or another. This place is only a butcher shop, but it is nearly industrial size. My mom had to get her Kirby vacuum cleaner repaired and the Kirby shop was next door that's how we found D.Q.M'.s.My estranged oldest brother who was a grown up&lived elsewhere that we rarely get to see, would appear Christmas morning every year with D.Q.M.'s Jerky wrapped in the funny papers or shiny like chrome... aluminum foil! As kids we loved that and banked on him coming bearing gifts of jerky.It has been a very special part of my life until 2012 when it disappeared,(then called "Shawn's Quality Meats" a different place and guy but same recipe) Miraculously three years ago Mom's Church ate breakfast at Gloria's restaurant and bar in Maple valley next to the cop shop/Hwy. 18-MV exit. Two doors over is MV Meats. She bought their jerky for us for Christmas knowing that each year it's going to be a disappointment because our jerky has been gone for years and then Christmas morning we open the jerky and received a miracle(an actual Christmas Miracle) ( Because Our Jerky had literally been extinct for half a decade already but we were still struggling to accept the loss, I'm very serious!)We're from Black Diamond /Lake Sawyer area and had no idea the fairly new Maple Valley Meats we've seen it, haven't been there yet. So I went there to figure out if the jerky was related some way to the real deal when inside I see Don... The Original guy from the Original Kent shop in the 80's! They also have meat sticks that were real good. There is also brats, sausage, bacon and cheese. The cheese is from somewhere else in MN though. The store has a scanner computer to ring up your items and they take credit cards. The extremely pale man with white hair was very nice and answered questions about his colony. He stated they all live in the dorms and share living space. I joked with him and said well I hope everyone gets along. He managed to chuckle. I highly recommend their high quality meats. Wish I had bought more.
