Primo is a classic gentleman's barber with a smack of hipsterness thrown in for good measure. I've been on a few occasions and each time have had to wait for well over an hour to get a hair cut. The staff do not like to rush their work, which is pleasing and they are all really pleasant / chatty types which means even if there are only a couple of people in line ahead of you, be prepared to get bored out of yer nut while you watch barbers cutting hair. Yes, its almost like watching paint dry, but only marginally more exciting. I only watched once, for a wee while, but started to get infuriated by some of the fussiness (some may say vanity) of the punters. A simple short back and side seemed to be taking an age with these guys, with every single hair being given the utmost of attention and care. At least the tunes were good and helped pass the time, until Mumford and Sons came on that is. The service here is not quite like your normal barbers. First of all, you get a hair wash before and after your haircut and secondly, the time and effort which goes into the hair cut is crazy. Expect the whole process to take in the region of 30-45 minutes! Now, I'm not that much bothered by a meticulous haircut, I just want someone to somehow contain my might thik bush of a "hair-do". Haircuts in Primo so far have raged from decent to good. But nothing which makes me want to come back and wait in the region of hour and a half. Price wise it's more expensive than your normal barber, about £20 a pop, but as mentioned they do spend a long time on each customer and will not rush things. All in all, I would say defo give it a shot, especially if its quiet. Otherwise forget it, unless you have nothing else planned for the rest of your day. read more

So after being challenged to have a wee update of some of my older reviews I settled on updating here. My views have not changed one little bit since my first visit. There had been new faces come and go but the service and quality remain exquisite. This is now one of the busiest barbers in the city with almost permanent queues of repeat customers. Now the guys here have prided themselves on a top quality cut be that hair beard or shave. Some might describe primo as hipster but what barbershop doesn't have some hipster staff or customers and if anything it enhances the experience. Location couldn't be better and you rarely have a wait over an hour although that depends on the number of staff on. Now while I finish my coffee and get ready to go for the chop we can finish on the atmosphere. Music banter between staff and customers could not be better. So when you need to get your next trim head down to primo and enjoy the hospitality on offer. read more

I've had my hair cut in here a few times and I've always been really impressed with what they've done. I've tried a few of the barbers and they've had good chat, took their time and knew what they were doing. A haircut in here will set you back £20 but they do 20% student discount which I think is very reasonable considering how good the haircuts are. Primo don't do appointments, only walk-ins. The downside to that is that I've always had to wait ages for a haircut, like over 2 hours. One time I waited for an hour and realised that at the speed they were going at I'd have to wait another hour an a half until it was my turn. I couldn't afford to spend my whole afternoon sat here waiting for a haircut, especially if the girl who works there was going to go out for a cigarette break after every haircut she did, so I left, and plenty of other customers came and went during that time too. This problem could be easily solved if they started taking appointments or if they got more people cutting hair, there's 6 chairs but any time I've been there's only been 2 staff on. I don't want to put people off because they do cracking haircuts but I'd only advise coming here on a day that you have nothing else planned because you'll probably be here a long time. Unfortunately, for that reason I can only give Primo 3 stars. read more

First visit here was when they were still in the Italian Center. Two barbers, two chairs and a bench for waiting customers. Fast forward to now and their bigger and better shop on Wilson Street is constantly packed with happy customers. The no appointments approach has it's positives and negatives. On the bright side, the team of barbers are all excellent, so there's no fear of where you end up in the queue. Also there's the obvious benefit of not having to pre-plan a trip for a haircut. On the downside, the queues can be massive. I've gone in at random times and waited anywhere from 40 minutes to 1 hour and a half. I've been in at opening and often been met by 5 others standing waiting for the door to be unlocked. It's crazy what the men of glasgow looking for a quality haircut are willing to go through, and shows the potential of the niche that Primo have hit so well along with the appeal of their location. The haircuts are great, no doubt. If you can always manage to get along for opening you might never experience to bad a wait, but for now the major downside is the crazy wait times. read more

Also been going there since it was in the Italian centre, love that it's a barber where you can walk in and get a cup of tea or coffee sit on a big f**k off comfy couch have a blether and listen to some good music. All that aside when I go to this barbers I get what I ask for. The folk take their time and it's a treat to get it done. Not your usual short and back with the strimmer. May sometimes take a little longer to get a haircut but before I went the first time it was pretty clear online that it was meant to be more sociable. All I can say is keep it up! read more

Very impressed by this barbers, I usually go for more expensive places (£25) because I feel they listen to what I want, but the service here was better despite being £10 cheaper. I particularly appreciated the time taken over the cut to get all the little things, especially using a cutthroat razor on the back of the neck to get it looking really clean. A word of warning however, they don't operate a booking policy and so you can be waiting quite a while at busy times! This isn't necessarily a bad thing, as the fact they are busy is testament to their quality. read more

Was keen to try this barber due to the positive reviews (and a desperate need for a haircut). I checked their website - I guess a tumblr account - for opening times and noticed it was walk in only, so with the knowledge it closes at 6 on a Tuesday I left work early and arrived at 4. ...at which point, with a customer in one of the seats getting attended to, three visible members of staff, and the door propped wide open, I was informed they were now closed (contrary to the opening times stated but with no reason offered as to why). I've noticed a few postings on their social media accounts from prior dates when hours were altered, but this was not the case on the day I visited. If uncharitable I could speculate the unseasonally warm weather of 20 degrees and cloudless sky may have been a factor in the early bath, but I think a warning to others to call ahead regardless of their policy - or consider an establishment which appears to be interested in custom - will do instead. Especially if you are a 2 mile walk away and shave an hour off your work balance to make the journey... Luckily the Merchant Barbers 2 minutes along the street was still in the mood to take on customers, and for a tenner less than Primo were offering. read more

My husband goes here to get a haircut and beardtrim. I'm in love with his beard so I'm glad that he's found a place that can spruce it up. They take care in each person that walks through the door and all seem comfortable cutting hair and making men look spiffy. I also like that there is sometimes women cutting on the floor. They also sell products to oil for beards as well. read more

Hi don't normally leave reviews but I felt compelled! In my quest to find a good barber when I moved to Glasgow, I done the usual thing and looked at review sites. This place caught my eye! My experience started off good, however I never realised that the wait would be so looong! I like modern styles and when eventually got seen to I decided to go for the skinfade! Worst decision of my hair do life! Shocking results but I'm to nice for my own good and just left without complaining. Went and got it tidied up from another barbers as best they could :( read more

The hotel we stayed at recommended Primo's. I am usually apprehensive about what hotels suggest due to pay off, but this was truly a great recommendation. They gave what I would say top 2 haircuts of all time for me. They take their time and pride in what they do! Hope to go their again next time on Glasgow! read more

As an American exchange student not knowing the area I found this place on here and I was amazed at how professional they were while still having a laid back atmosphere. My barber Haider (goes by Shaun) was cool and collected with plenty of experience and did an awesome job. They even shampoo/style your hair! Awful experience. I waited nearly an hour before getting up and leaving as the speed they were going and the number of people in front of me would have meant it would have probably taken another hour and a half to get my hair cut. The haircuts did look good and they obviously take there time with you but waiting an hour is just ridiculous. Staff don't seem to care that people have been waiting for that length of time and regularly go out for smoke breaks with each other. After 45 minutes someone offered me a tea or coffee (men don't need to go to barbers which offer them tea). The same person had been hanging around and smoking in between washing guy's hair so don't know why it took him that long to offer me or the others waiting something. If you are a hipster with nothing better to do with your time and are happy to devote three hours to getting your hair done then this would be the place for you. They will even take great care and attention trimming that w*nky beard you most likely have. read more

Having looked at ratings in Yelp I was keen to try this place out. Upon entering I was engulfed by a swarm of men crammed on the couch and appeared to be very short staffed. I eventually got a seat and observed the frenzies of the staff under pressure. One hour later still waiting and left. Nice place but not enough staff and a waste of my afternoon off. read more

Having read reviews from primo,i thought I would like to experience this barbers,as I usually go to a very well known barbers in Manchester,as time was short for me,this I thought would be good,how wrong I was,i am not hear to slander small businesses,my god they are closing left right and centre,but I thought I would get something half decent anyway,as I live over 1 hour away from Glasgow,i phoned the number for advice before making the journey,the answer was"this number is no longer available"so never mind,maybe a good excuse,i left for Glasgow in the morning,arrived and 11am,and walked to the barbers,i found it no problem,walked in and was greeted by a pleasant girl who asked if I would like a tea or coffee and could she take my jacket,i waited a while,which I always do in barbers,as it is a walk in first come first served type of system,after a while a guy asked who was next,i stood up and walked to his chair,he introduced himself as Stephen,i explained I always use pomade,either water based or oil based,so I did degrease for 2 days before arriving,i just put some water based pomade on,so it would be easy to wash out,he said there was a problem with the only back wash they have,and I couldn't get my hair washed"eh?never in my life have i been to a barbers that cant wash hair,alarm bells started ringing then,i was thinking of walking out,as i was originally going for a full restyle,but decided against this totally,so he explained he would dampen it down,which he sprayed it a little,then I explained,i would just have a low fade and very very little off the top and fringe,to be honest the guy did do his best,but he was tugging away at my hair with the comb,i was getting a bit apprehensive at this point,it took him a while to do the fade,which is ok,but he was interrupted by another barber,to ask what he wanted for lunch,as they were going to mcdonalds,i let him carry on,when he finished cutting he dried what there was to dry,and he asked if I ever used hairspray to give it height when I was drying it,i said I know it works but I just use a brush and then apply my pomade,so he also applied their own brand of pomade and started to slick it back with his comb,i explained I like it high,maybe sometimes to let the fringe fall to the front,so he said"like alex turner"i said exactly,he just laughed and kept slicking it back and touching my head with his hand every so often,i`m not sure what he was trying to achieve by this,but I was ready to wag my tail,anyway when he didn't get a brush I told him that would be enough,just at the time the lunches arrived,and the receptionist girl walked back through to her desk with the mcdonalds drink,he dusted me off,i went to pay,and he charged me £20,so i just got my card out to pay,and then this is the best bit"sorry we dont take cards"cash only,that was the final straw,i must say this is the most expensive low fade I have ever had,i get the full works in Manchester for £24 and come out feeling like a million dollars,i felt like i had been done for that amount,needless to say I didn't give a tip,which I always give 25%,said goodbye and proceeded to walk out,right outside 4 of the 6 staff smoking,so that is my experience of primo barbers,i wont be visiting you anymore,sorry guys,but please you need to put a bit more into it,and for the guys that are happy that's ok,good on you,i know that i am a very fussy person,but i am prepared to spend my money for the best treatment,and for me this is one of the worst,no phone number,no water to wash hair.not doing what the customer wants,and finally no chip and pin to pay,i do welcome all feedback comments read more
