A friend who now lives near Grand Rapids spoke highly of her experience at The Parlour, so I knew I was in good hands. The Parlour is located at the City Flats Hotel. Service from the start was truly wonderful and I felt like a princess the entire time I was there! I wish I knew the name of my stylist because she deserves a raise. Getting my hair or makeup done always gives me anxiety, but I've never felt more comfortable or at home. The stylist (again, I wish I knew her name!) talked to me while she washed my hair and together we figured out what kind of style to do for the wedding. We decided to do a sleek blowout because I typically wore my hair straight as is. I really loved that she didn't try to pressure me into a different style as well. My makeup was AMAZING! She made sure to ask questions to make sure of what I wanted and that I was comfortable with everything. I mentioned that I prefer a more natural look and every step of the way I was asked if I wanted something darker or lighter. I felt like my time and opinions were, which isn't something about every salon I've been to. Overall I plan on driving to Grand Rapids just to get my hair done again. I know that sounds crazy since I live in Metro Detroit but that's how much I loved my experience! Well worth the drive!

He talked to me about what I wanted, what I liked/didn't like about my hair, etc. I'm a fairly anxious guy, especially when it comes to making big changes in how I look, Sin's inviting atmosphere/personality made me feel comfortable asking the questions I wanted to ask and making the requests/adjustments I wanted. As others have said, his feedback was super valuable, and I feel more confident in my hair/look than I have in a while. This was my first time, and it surely won't be my last.

I wasted almost 6 months waiting around for a "training program" that never happened! It was pushed backed once and I accepted it and was willing to wait for the next opportunity.( I worked there as front desk in place of working as a stylist , which that is a whole other issue I could go on and on about) Mind you, only getting paid $15/ hour for the work they had me doing, picking up after their stylists and doing everything for them but the hair. I found out I was pregnant, let them know as soon as I felt comfortable, around a month from when I found out, and from that moment I knew my chances of still being considered for the training were low. They initially told me I could go through with the training or push it to the following year after my maternity leave. The owner and manager took that option from me and told me I could start next year or be an assistant for the holidays. Mind you I am fully capable of working in this field, regardless of being pregnant. AND STILL NONE OF THAT HAPPENED! I worked my last shift on a Friday, my next shift was a Wednesday and the manager cowardly called me the morning of and fired me, with no warning. Coincidentally I was fired after the manager went on her almost 3 week vacation, while I worked all of her hours. ALSO THE SAME WEEK I WAS FIRED THE GIRL I WAS SUPPOSED TO TRAIN WITH ORIGINALLY STARTED THAT WEEK.How coincidental is that!!! The "well" timed termination and unjust reasonings behind their firing me. Says all it needs to! Claiming I "didn't take the trash out one night" and " I was leaving early" Even though all my timestamps show me leaving after all stylist were finished. I performed everything to the best of my ability and made normal human mistake throughout the way. All of this to say... all new stylist( or even interested already working stylists) the favoritism here is real, with stylists and other front desk receptionists, and the professionalism and communication are non-existent. Almost all of the stylist are lovely and great people on a personal level, but this is not a place you want to start your career at. Yes, my pregnancy played a part into why they treated me the way they did, but regardless, the way this business is ran is horrible and their sanitation practices are also questionable from my knowledge of safe practices. If you do decide to work here, GET EVERYTHING WRITTEN ON PAPER AND SIGNED BY BOTH PARTIES!! and do not be as naive as I was. I wasted too much time on this place and I don't want that to be you!

I paid $185 for a cut and color with Marah and left extremely disappointed…read more Marah was very nice, but unfortunately the results did not reflect the consultation we had beforehand or the level of service I expected for that price point. I clearly explained that I wanted the brassiness removed and my hair toned to a cooler, ashy shade using permanent color to cover my grays. Instead, a red tone was deposited across my entire head, my grays weren't covered, and according to the salon manager, permanent color wasn't even used despite that being what I requested. The haircut was also visibly uneven. For nearly $200, I expected a stylist who could follow what was clearly discussed during the consultation and deliver professional results. Unfortunately, the outcome was the opposite of what I asked for.
