Would not recommend... wanted to find out about hair extensions. They said it would be $50 to come discuss but would go forward the service. Well I decided not to do the extensions and wanted to put the $50 towards a highlight instead. They would not do that. So I paid $50 to talk to a stylist about hair extensions. I was lucky to squeeze an appointment in with just a few days notice. The salon is in a great part of town if you are making a day of treating yourself, the staff are friendly, the salon is cute and modern, and bustling with customers! My appointment was with Alex for a quick trim & glaze, she was friendly and double checked her cut at the end. If it was possible to give 0 stars, I would. I chose this salon back in February, based off the great reviews here on Yelp. Specifically towards the stylist haylee. Glowing reviews made me very comfortable with choosing a brand new salon for me. Haylee was very kind to me through my entire appointment, but she never asked me many questions about my hair, which should have been a red flag. But I trusted her years of experience. I told her I loved bright highlights around my face and hairline. I never got any highlights put in my hair. Halfway through the appointment I went to the bathroom and sent my sister a picture of my hair. I said, "my roots look red." But after the entire process was finished, my hair look fine. So I didn't think anything of it. I got home and was disappointed in the lack of highlights around my face, but I didn't say anything because I liked the rest of it. After about 3-4 weeks, my roots started to turn very bright red. Hot roots. As someone who has had her hair done since she was 14, and who has gone to hair school herself, this shocked me. I never had an issue like this. When I reached out to the salon, her response was that I had waited too long to contact them. And they would give me $100 credit. The total service was THREE HUNDRED AND TEN DOLLARS. To have flaming red hot roots?? My belief is that she put a bad color on my root, and tried to cover it with a toner. Instead of just telling me. That's why it faded after a few weeks. And it would explain what I saw in the bathroom mirror. Please ladies do NOT waste your money here. Sadly the glowing reviews are not all accurate I am now stuck with a head of hot roots until I can find another stylist to help fix this mess. SAVE YOUR MONEY. read more

Let's talk about Emily! Holy crap do I adore her and h! I started seeing her back at her old salon while my extension specialist was on maternity leave and I never went back! She's just the sweetest; and very easy to communicate with! I often feel like I can't offer my honest opinion to most stylists, as I don't want to offend or frustrate them, but I have to say that sitting in her chair for 5 hours today, it felt like talking with a friend. I felt comfortable and like my input was welcome. She talked me through each step and kept checking in to make sure I was happy with how things were going! I have been waiting to leave a review in the hopes that i would find something I loved about my last haircut to share. I originally went here in May and saw Barb and I absolutely loved my haircut and the experience as a whole. Barb was so informative and listened to what I said I liked and needed before cutting my hair. I couldn't wait to come back. She did such an amazing job and I absolutely loved it. I made a follow up appointment in August and Barb was booked out for a while so I figured I would try out someone new. I decided to try going to Lesly because she was a higher level, which I thought meant even more experience, even though she charges a higher fee. When I arrived I had to wait 45 minutes from my appointment start time for my service to begin with no explanation, which was frustrating enough, and then when speaking with Leslie said, "I'm pretty east going, my hair just needs to reach the top of my head so I can put it in a bun because I'm really low maintenance with it, otherwise, style is however you want". Lesly cut my hair in the back so short that almost 6 weeks out, I still cannot get my hair to reach into a low bun on the back of my head. I'm so frustrated and disappointed with this experience, especially because a haircut with Lesley is significantly more then it was with Barb and the experience was so much more enjoyable. read more

Do not trust this business! My girlfriend came home sobbing because the hair stylist either didn't listen or didn't know what they were doing. She asked for a layered cut with auburn hair (while providing reference photos). She came home with a bang cut and black hair. The stylist said she didn't want to bleach the hair because it'll take longer so she just added the color to here naturally brown hair. So if you wanted a messed up haircut, come here and waste $230 for a haircut you could do yourself. read more

This salon went above and beyond for me! I was in town for a family reunion and was about to leave the country for the next few months, and my hair was looking very brassy, and my highlights were stripe-y. They were able to get me in that afternoon to assess and fix my hair. Ultimately they decided to do some extra highlights, tone my hair, and add a root shadow since I would be out of the country for so long. It looks amazing! All the staff was very friendly and professional (they all have great hair too, which I took as a great sign lol), and the salon was very clean and well decorated. Unfortunately I don't live in GR, but next time I'm back I'll be sure to book an appointment! The price was extremely fair and they honestly could have charged a lot more for the quality and work! I've been a client at Echo since I returned from LA. They use Wella color products and since I traveled back to Michigan with my formula I gave Echo a try. For over a year Kristi was my colorist and stylist. She is professional, kind, and I always enjoyed the results of her services. For the past several months I've been sitting in Brandy's chair. She offers great perspective on cut and color changes and is skilled with scissors. I also get my eyebrows colored at the time I get my hair done. The salon is clean and it's apparent the staff works as a team. They would get five stars if they carried my shampoo and conditioner, Davines...which Brandy did make an effort to order for me. read more

I don't like to give bad reviews. BUT, the stylist here are not all trained the same way or trained at all for that matter. I was coming here just getting my roots touched up with a specific formula which worked out fine. The second I tried to switch up my color I left with over processed and blue hair. Since then the quality of my hair has not been the same. I advise against using Katie. Not only is my hair ruined it has been extremely costly to gently coverup her extremely terrible over bleach job. When I told the Colorist how terrible it was she did not take it seriously- and blamed me and my hair for not taking to the color. In 32 years of life, and 15 years of coloring hair this has never happened and I have gone to and from dark to light plenty of times. If you want good color my recommendation would be to go to Alison Burr at the James Salon. read more

The service I received at Echo goes far above satisfactory. For context, I cut my hair into a mullet a few months ago, and while it was a vibe, the growing out process is not ideal. I booked a consultation with Becca for hair extensions and we discussed my options and I decided to go through with the service. My hair before having extensions installed has very short layers, and I was so worried about blending the extensions to make them look natural. My worries were gone once Becca spun me around in the chair and I saw myself in the mirror. It was enough to make me choke up, I've never felt so beautiful in my life!!! She turned my choppy grown out mullet into a beautiful flowing head of hair. Not only did Becca do a great job, but she is sweet as pie. Such an awesome personality and so easy to talk to! Getting my hair done at Echo salon was a great experience for me. I got my hair done by KJ and she did exactly what I asked for, which is hard to come by! I felt welcomed when I walked in, and comfortable in my chair. I got an overall color, cut, wash, and blowout. I asked for a "choppy" messy style cut and it came out beautiful. I think my money was well spent and I will definitely be coming back! It's always a nervous experience going to a new salon for the first time, but I'm happy to say I will continue to come here! I visited home from San Francisco right before Christmas and luckily got Dana as my hair stylist. She was able to tone down the brassiness in my hair and gave me a wonderful cut for $60 which is much cheaper than what usually pay for in the Bay. I highly recommend her, especially because she's been a hairstylist in Chicago for a few years and really knows her stuff. No one has been able to make my extremely black Asian hair as ashy as she was able to do. Definitely coming back to see her next time I'm in town! read more

I called the day before and got an appointment for the next day in the early evening. Stylist was very good--used a straight blade razor to cut the sides and back of my hair--something I have never seen before, and I have got my hair cut in Chicago, New York, and Europe. Gives the hair a nice texture. Men's cut was $25, which is very reasonable in my opinion. Looks like I just found my new hair salon in GR. read more

Beckie gave me a fantastic cut - and was quick, professional and helped encourage me to get what I really wanted rather than just settle for something bland my old stylist had suggested. Katie Metts has been cutting my hair for a few years now and I always LOVE my cut! I have curly hair and not all stylists know how to cut it. Katie does an excellent job using layers to make my thick curls look light and bouncy instead of heavy and triangular. Curly haired girls, you know what I'm talking about! Katie also does my Brazilian sugaring. If you are used to regular wax you have to try sugaring. It is cleaner and lasts MUCH longer. Katie is a professional and makes you feel comfortable.
