Aesthetic: Elegant, upscale bar with a variety of creative cocktails and an extensive drink menu. My Favorites: The bathrooms! Experience: I honestly think this experience needs to be left at the bathrooms, just please visit them while you're here.

We decided to do a staycation in Durham for NYE. We first did dinner and headed to Primrose for the night. We had purchased advanced tickets for their NYE event. Check-in was easy and upon arrival around 10:00 pm, we found the place primed for the occasion. Mostly all the seating was taken, but we eventually lucked up with seats at the bar. There was plenty of NYE hats, glasses and other festive things around for the taking. The ticket came with a free drink and they did not disappoint. You could choose any cocktail on their extensive menu and I enjoyed a bourbon based one the bartender said was one of her recipes. The size of it was good, the flavor and presentation. They had TVs on playing football while the DJ already had the party going. The crowd began to thicken as we approached midnight, but the bar service continued to be quick and consistent. They seemed to be well staffed for the night. The DJ was playing a nice mix of music of a crowd in their 30s on average (I'm older but didn't feel out of place). Everyone was appropriately dressed as well. The decor is so cute! The unique photos and the Christmas decorations were very intentional and well done. I will absolutely be making a trip from Raleigh back to Primrose.

What a beautiful bar! This place is amazing! The drinks are outstanding and the bartenders are top notch. Cedrick and Nora killed the game. We asked Cedrick to make us cocktails of his own and wow, they were some of the best we have had. This guy knows what he's doing, a true professional. We also loved our convos with Nora, she's a queen! Thank you so much for making us feel welcome. We will definitely be back!

I was at an event at the Durham Hotel, but it was well past dinner time, and I was looking for something new. walking down Main, I passed the Primrose. A group was seated in the window, laughing and enjoying themselves, so I thought I'd take a look. I passed through a hallway of rose-covered walls, into an open, bright space with a lush red velvet banquette along the left wall and a stone bar along the right. I took a seat at the far end of the bar, and a bartender immediately handed me a drink menu and asked if I wanted anything in particular. I asked for his recommendation, and he said "Here's looking at you, kid!" I thought he was referring to my fedora, but then read the menu. Tequila, strawberry, and Tajin on the rim - why yes, please. It was delightful. Sadly, there was no food to be had. Luna, across the street had just stopped taking orders, so I suffered without. It's a great vibe. Someone was doing a photoshoot, and the subject also recommended the "HLAYK". They were making quite a few. There were loads of 20-something's finding there are better drinks to be had than PBRs and Purple Jesus. I'm loving the revival of cocktail culture, especially among the young folks. I hope Primrose stays going for the long haul. I finished my drink and decided I wanted something a bit more smoky, and "Becky with the good pear" jumped out at me. I promise, until I just typed that name, I didn't catch the double entendre! I think Becky herself would be proud of this blend of tequila, mezcal, lemon juice and spiced pear liquor. It was a smoky summer night campfire in a glass. I stayed for a while longer, but needed food, and had a ways to walk back to my car. Back through the Primrose tunnel into the summer blast. But now I'm cool and relaxed and there's a pep in my step. Here's looking at you, kid! Right back atcha!

We had read about this bar and decided to pop in early on the weekend. It was still quiet but I've also seen it busy later at night. The bar is designed for Instagram selfies and has lots of interesting little nooks. My wife got a red wine and I got a cocktail. I don't recall if they offer any munchies or not. Anyway, an interesting option for drinks if you're wandering around downtown Durham.

Went here for a drink on a Saturday night out. They have a really great DJ who played all the best songs of R&B and hip hop but the older things. They had a variety of drinks and I loved that the descriptions were thorough. The drinks themselves were good but not the best but they were affordable. The Christmas decor really stood out but the pictures on the wall were so funny with one being Taylor Swift as the Mona Lisa. Overall I would come back for a nice vibe.

Primrose Bar & Lounge has their fall cocktail menu out now so we stopped to check it out. I really enjoyed the decor and vibe. It was the Averna After Dark for me and the Sweater Weather for my husband. We both really enjoyed our cocktails and will return soon when we have more time to spend here. Cheers!

Nice intimate bar downtown Durham! Customer service was great! Bartenders were very helpful with decision making, explaining cocktail selections and ensuring satisfaction. Bar had a cute Grinch theme for the Holiday. I also really enjoyed the music.

I have to say I really love this surge of new cutesy cocktail bars in Durham. Primrose has a lot of creative drink options: I opted for Ice Queen, Island Dreams (spiced rum, lime juice, simple syrup, pineapple juice, coconut cream, bitters). I thought it was delicious: super summer-y, beach-y vibes! It's perfect if you don't want to taste the alcohol lol. Ambiance is very nice: table/booth and bar seating, very pink decor, loved all the funny historical paintings of modern celebrities haha. Service is fast and friendly. There's nearby free street or City of Durham garage parking on weekends or weekdays after 7pm. 10/10 would recommend for your girls night out needs!

Nifty, nifty, nifty. Great cocktail list and really superb decor. Like, award-level decor concept. There's a long bar plus several tables against the opposite wall. Great relaxing vibe and a good staff who pay attention and know their recipes.

Visited last weekend while visiting Durham and this bar was so cute definitely worth taking pictures! We loved the decor very beautiful! The signature cocktails were amazing , especially HERE'S LOOKING AT YOU, KID & BECKY WITH THE GOOD PEAR! The bartender was very knowledgeable and had great customer service! The bar doesn't have food but he gave us food suggestions near by! Check out this place if you in the area!

To order you'll need to walk up to the bar to place your order. I ordered the Hot Girl Summer (Olmeca Altos Reposado, fresh watermelon, Gran Gala orange liqueur, house-made habanero syrup, lime, salt half rim) which was so good. I also ordered a cheetahs do it in the dark (Astral Añejo tequila, Licor 43, Caffè Borghetti liqueur, espresso, orange twist) which was also excellent. I'd recommend walking out to the rooftop if it isn't too hot. There are several tables and the views of the city are nice. Definitely will come back to the velvet hippo next time I'm in Durham.

When the weather permits, they open the back patio which looks out onto the golf course. Since COVID, they've added a heated tent which works well except for the very cold nights. It gets crazy busy around Duke games and other events. The menu is different than the Fairview restaurant with a few similarities. I've eaten tons of meals here --- Cheese plate: good sized for an appetizer. I ask them to substitute bread for the crostini. Cheese change over time but usually three kinds. Focaccia: comes vegetarian with pesto but I usually add chicken. Easy to share. Wings: I'm a definite fan. The Szechuan sauce is a touch sweet with a kick. You get 10 decent sized bone-in wings. This could be a meal if you aren't starved. Spinach salad: my fav salad on the menu. Sliced eggs and pork cracklings! The bacon dressing is quite tasty. Probably not healthy but you're eating in a bar. Caesar salad: solid but not spectacular, comes with a bit more dressing than I like. Turkey BLT: kudos for using Havarti cheese rather than some other. I prefer spicy mustard over the aioli but that's me being picky. The bread has a nice texture. Duke dip: this seems to vary from very good to eh. The horseradish cream is too mild for me. Ask for more Au Jus if you need it. Burger: pretzel roll is solid. I'm ok with the mushroom/tomato jam default but usually end up customizing my own. Beyond burger option available. Cauliflower steak: only thing I don't really like. Not bad just not satisfying. Salmon: a simple healthy dish. The garbanzo beans don't add much to the flavors. I had broccoli added once. People rave about the house made potato chips but I think they are just ok. The fries are thin and stringy - decent flavor but wish they were much better. The fingerling potatoes are the best of the three of them. Decent selection of microbrews and a few high end wines. Full bar of course. Servers are usually very nice but get VERY busy and sometimes overwhelmed. Even when the bar isn't busy it can take a bit for food to come out. If you're in a hurry, be sure to tell them when you sit down.

Five stars for Liberty & Plenty, a true gem that we didn't even plan on visiting. We were headed…read moredown the street to somewhere else, saw the sign, looked at each other and said, "Let's check this out" and I am so glad we followed that impulse because it turned into one of those stops that completely makes your afternoon. What was supposed to be a quick pop in turned into two full hours of socializing, tasting, talking and working our way through a lineup of spirits that dhows just how much care and craft is happening inside this place. I need to say, Stephanie is a darling. She's not a bartender. She's a proper mixologist, the kind of professional who knows her spirits, knows her history, knows how to read a customer, and somehow manages to be both entertaining and deeply knowledgeable at the same time. She walked us through their menu with the kind of confidence that makes you trust every recommendation, and every drink she made had that extra flourish that tells you she actually loves the work. It's rare to find someone who can make you laugh, teach you something, and hand you a drink that's better than what you expected all in the same moment, but she does it effortlessly. Somewhere between the rum and the vodka, we learned that they're gearing up for a big move to Wilson, expanding from two stills to a dozen, which is wild and honestly well deserved because the quality here is already top-tier and the idea of them scaling up that much is exciting. You can feel the ambition from the crew here, the sense that they're on the cusp of something bigger, and it made every sip feel like you're getting in on a story that's about to blow up. That said, I'm begging. Please, please, please, find a way to keep a tasting room in Durham. You're awesome, the vibe is awesome, the people are awesome, and this city needs places like this where you can wander in on a whim and end up staying for two hours because everything feels and tastes just right. Expansion is great, growth is great, Wilson is lucky to have you, but Durham will really miss you if you disappeared completely. Liberty & Plenty is the kind of spot you stumble into once and then start recommending to everyone you know. If you're anywhere nearby, go. And if Stephanie is behind the bar, settle in, because you're in very good hands. [Review 1073 of 2026 - 4782 in North Carolina - 26252 overall]

The seasonal menu is creative and reasonably priced, we were genuinely impressed. The ambiance is charming and cozy despite a bit warm inside (the AC was pretty weak), but quiet and tastefully decorated with velvet couches, exposed walls, vintage touches, and fresh flowers on each table. We had fun flipping through their amazing cocktail book collection on the shelf too. The bartenders were very friendly and offered us focaccia from Ninth Street Bakery to pair with our drinks for free, which was such a thoughtful and tasty addition. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and are so happy to see a micro-distillery thriving in the heart of Durham. Can't wait to return for an official tour and to sample more of their spirits!
