We brought our 4 year old son here (November 2022) in hopes of him being accepted and worked with…read more We spoke with the Director Emily Galloway about our concerns and things our son had experienced with his prior PreK program and she told us that he would be there on a trial basis, to see how the first couple of well weeks go and if he was still having some adjustment issues that we could come together to discuss how to help him and things that might work, collectively. She called us almost everyday for the first 4 days and on that Friday (one school week in) she asked us to come and pick him up and that was to be his last day. I spoke with her and explained that was not what she said to me and that I would have never brought him there if that were the case. I lost the registration fee-nonrefundable. My child had to go to ANOTHER place to adjust again. It takes a child at least 2 weeks to adjust and she kicked him out after one week. We have had a horrible experience here and would never take another child here, nor will we recommend this establishment. Our son is currently thriving in his new school after a minor adjustment period to new students and teachers. He has been there over a month and a half.

She talks over you and wants to blame a two year old for a staff member falling in the class room. I won't go into all the details, but believe you me it has been reported and it will be investigated. As a someone in healthcare it is out of scope for someone that is NOT in the medical field to diagnosis and/or give medical advise if they are not the child's PCP or a professional in that field to diagnosis. I would highly recommend asking before you enroll your child what qualifications are needed for the teachers and what kind of training are they required to complete for employment. There were inconsistancies in what the teacher reported and what the owner told us. She was angry due to the incident that happened in the class room which require a work comp claim. That information should not have been disclosed to the parents. It is a requirement for employers to carry workcomp insurance for accidents that may occur. I really hope and pray that the staff get more training on how to appropriately care for children who may require more time to adjust to daycare or needed more guidance. I would recommend the owner also read up on and gain more knowledge about the ADA (American with Disability Act) and get familiar with it. Labeling a child as behavorial and/or accusing parents of a lack of parenting skills is offensive and unnecessary. I hope this never happens to anyone else. Of note , the parents are very involved in the child's life and took all the appropriate steps including parent meetings, interventional solutions at home, reinforcements, and referrals to speech therapy to eval the child's needs. This was explained to the daycare and they were aware of this. This is our experience which was not a good one. Both children were pulled from this facility due to the actions of the owner and the hostile actions she displayed. The male owner, however appeared to be more compassionate and did listen to our concerns and remained calm. That is why they get a 1 star.

The entire atmosphere in the building has shifted. You can tell the staff love what they are doing and truly care about all the kids. My children are greeted by name every day! All staff members have been willing to talk to me about any concerns I have and always make sure to answer any questions I have to put me at ease. I would highly recommend this daycare!

Our son had a hard time in schools due to being abused by a teacher very briefly and very early on (age 2). That school is now shut down, thankfully. The only way we found out about it (our son was not able to express the abuse yet) is because the teachers apologetically told us they would restrain him physically and would pull him out from tables he was hiding under (from them) by his FEET! We saw all of these things on camera. They are not exaggerated , even though its crazy to think anyone could treat a 3-4 year old child this way.. My son was assaulted by multiple teachers at this school when he attended this school briefly. Early on the owners were professional and seemed knowledgeable about caring for other people's children, they were also our friends of several years. It seems the husband is much more savvy and caring than the wife - the wife should not run any business, much less one with as much impact as childcare has. 1) The first time it happened (teacher being rough with him and putting hands on him), the teacher was fired. -moved to another classroom- 2) The second time it happened (teacher grabbed him by his ear and pulled him so hard that he tripped over a chair and was then placed into a corner once he got up), we were given a sob story of how sorry the teacher was. How she had never done anything like that before and it was the best teacher they had... -moved to another classroom- 3) The third time it happened, it was the owners SISTER (married couple who have a son who has similar issues which is why they opened their own daycare in the first place) manhandled our son and yanked him around and yanked him out of the classroom and made him lay on the ground in the hall where he laid with his face down crying for several minutes. We imminently picked up our son and got him out of there. The owner/wife returned that weeks tuition and no apology was ever given. We wish the husband had been at the Murfreesboro location the entire time. He was very good with him and was very patient and knew exactly what to do and was far more professional. But the wife, she seemed like the had more important things to do and seemed dismissive, careless and impulsive. The third time listed above was after I spoke to the wife/owner and tried to find a way to effectively work together with the teachers so our son could be successful and one of the many shocking things she said to me was that she explained how we had been given "special treatment" already and that our son deserved to be handled the way he was by their teachers. Honesely, we should have reported this abuse to DCS the first time and never come back. I could go on... but I think this is enough to explain why I would never recommend anyone leave their child in the care of this day care. There is a stark difference between those who get into this business for money and who get into it to nurture our future leaders. It has been nearly 2 years since he left this school and our son is doing very well and *excelling* now that he has been consistently in a good school with loving, educated, knowledgeable teachers. Read the negative reviews and base your decision off that. The Owner's will respond spouting off about their "Vision, Values and Mission" but they don't care about any of it. It's there to help them rope you in and make money. They only care about money not about the children or the parents. I am sure they will respond here with the same canned responses they give every other negative review. They refuse to resolve issues face to face, through email or over the phone "they don't have a contact number" yea sure they don't have a phone. Attached to this post will be pictures of all the reasons we decided to remove our child from this "school" please be wary of the positive posts on here. The staff does not seem to care about anything going on, and are there to just pick up a paycheck and could care less what happens with our children. We have brought up issues multiple times with the director, and given plenty of time for the issues to be resolved, however the director seems to brush off the issue and no resolution was made, hence our choice to remove our son from this "school" If the owners of the "school" would like to discuss this information further with us, they can feel free to give us a call ( Not email , not canned responses to this post a genuine phone call); if we do not hear from them , then we will assume they do not have concern for the health and well being of the children in their facility and are only in the business to make money.

The reason why we especially love Barfield Academy is they take time to teach the children instead of letting TVs babysit them. My child has grown immensely since attending. The focus on manners, ABCs, 123s and overall just being a good respectful little person make my wife and I very happy. I know there has been some turnover at the director level, but those were personal choices that people had to make for career advancement, which should never be frowned upon. Miss Alice and Miss Emily have this school running on all cylinders and we are proud to be a part of the Barfield Academy family.
