Comparing PGCC to the 4-year university I'm at now makes all of the problems I previously had with them insignificant. Yes, their nursing program was over-saturated (too many applicants, not enough advisors), but it ran like a well-oiled machine regardless. In my current school, my advisor registered me late and almost signed me up for a course I'd already taken, which I had to find out for myself halfway through the semester. They didn't depend on me to supervise every step of every transition like switching majors the way other universities do. Soooo much information is available in your student portal that I almost never had to step foot in the admin hall (though as a new student, navigating their sites was like entering a labyrinth). I was shocked to learn having a waiting list was not a universal thing and they actually notify you once a spot opens, as opposed to my current school who makes you log in and check several times a day... every day... and then still gives unspecific error messages. They use Canvas which has SIGNIFICANTLY less issues than Blackboard. Yes, I have had some troublesome professors but every issue was handled beautifully by the administration, and even so it only came to this point twice. Some of the best teachers I've ever had the blessing to encounter are tucked away in here. I miss my professors, my peers, the atmosphere, I miss everything! I'm honestly considering dropping my Bachelor's just to go back to PGCC and finish my ADN. When it comes to college, bigger is not always better. PG is not perfect but they were deemed best school in MD to get your RN for a reason. read more

This school has some amazing professors , truly . But the administrative staff here is not the most helpful. You will be in a good position if you find at least one good academic advisor and stick with them. I almost registered for classes that I did not need more than once and wasted money, due to incorrect academic advising information. You will have to do your own homework and research when inquiring about degree program information here because if you don't you could potentially be misguided. Majority of the administrators here seem highly irritated, like they don't want to be there or help you. I'd say the education is great here but do your own research for degree program info, scholarships and etc!!! Great education here but not the best administrative support for students in majority of the departments here unfortunately! I go to the Natatorium to swim and I also play racquetball there too. The new lighting in the pool area is wonderful. It was quite a wait to get the new lighting installed but the facility looks great! The hot tub is very nice too. The Hot Tub was not in service so, I will be happy to use it once it is back in service. The racquetball courts are okay and need a good sweep/mop daily. There are a few regulars who play there during the week and I hear there are even more racquetball players who gather there on Saturday mornings. A nice facility with a caring staff. read more

The pros and cons others listed are correct. I gave 2 stars I will start with the positive first. Dr. Adefris in the Anthropology is the example of what a balanced professor and college experience should reflect when it comes to helping students develop critical thinking, real-world application of knowledge, and student interactions. Dr. Dawn Lewis in psychology is a great professor when it comes to creative coursework, affordable textbooks that can be purchased or checked out at local libraries, and timely responses to student emails. Feedback from both professors truly guides students and remains free from personal attacks. They have a plethora of REAL and up-to-date support resources available to students. There's another professor that I would like to name, but he truly prefers modesty so I will respect his space. I am sure there are more really great professors, however, I have not taken their courses. Financial aid demonstrates professionalism despite the drama they are faced with while working at PGCC. The timely processing of funds really helps with budgeting and paying for expenses. When deciding upon courses the registration portal is easy to navigate and you filter ZERO COST Textbooks. I absolutely feel like PGCC has the best online registration process. You can also look at textbook costs in advance while most schools make you wait until the first day of class or later. PGCC is one of the MOST AFFORDABLE schools in MD. If you qualify for financial aid and student loans MAKE IT WORK FOR YOU. You can save the ENORMOUS refund for additional courses at a different school and graduate early (dual enrollment). Now to the negative or what you need to be aware of: It's like a fight club at this school. Use your best judgement regarding your attendance because I am neutral simply because the school may fit your needs and ultimately graduation is the end goal. However, I have attended several colleges (2 and 4 year) while pursuing various degrees and this school struggles with staff accountability. Whether it's PGCC or any other school, beware when the President, their support team, and key stakeholders do not list emails, just a bio. You're going to attend a school with disorganization and lack of student engagement. It doesn't mean don't attend, you do what you need to for graduation. However, schools that do this are only concerned about themselves, have nasty cliques, and your knowledge basis is limited, it's get in and gtfo the rest is a grey fog. If you can afford the out of county fees there are better schools in the area that support student learning and engagement. Many of the professors here are absolutely terrible. Most are working on a PhD or additional job and the students come secondary when it comes to responding to emails or answering questions. One professor never answered my email about a missing submission link until 1 day before the semester ended. Several professors do not submit grades until the week before grades are due to close out the semester. Professors and department leaders are rude and do not exhibit boundaries. One professor went on to my social media page and shared that I am not that cute and my husband looks like a black Abraham Lincoln. I have no idea what that has to do with class. I reported it within the school investigation portal and attached the screenshots, I received no response and felt violated. Feedback from professors tend to reflect ego and attitude. I received a 4 page feedback from one professor on EACH assignment (average 5 assignments due per week), talk about lack of focus. Another professor provided 6 simultaneous feedbacks on ONE assignment that were personal attacks. I saved the screenshots, but reporting this type of behavior results in no action and retaliation. My final issue, registrar/records is a joke. I submitted transcripts 2 years ago and still waiting for an update. I have 2 degrees, but wanted a career change. I enrolled in PGCC with the intention of attending nursing school. You can't apply to a nursing program without proper processing of transcripts due to the admission requirements ie prerequisites. I went with Notre Dame. I doubt the school will fix any of the issues that many students face. However the work is up to you. You can attend PGCC and fulfill your goals, just recognize that you will incur more obstacles at PGCC and a few other schools. Sometimes the challenges are the not so fun aspects of life, do what you need to do graduate and pay it forward. read more

I'm a student here and all I have to say is they offer students little support, aren't understanding and the financial aid department is a mess. I've had to submit an appeal several times and had my aid cancelled before the start of the semester. This is an inconvenience because I work part time and live at home. Honestly, I wish I would have transferred sooner or went somewhere else. This school has ruined my transcripts and the staff is unhelpful. My worst mistake was enrolling in this school. read more

Helped me out a lot! For the exception of one time, this school really came through for me when I didn't do so well in a few classes during my undergrad. Most of summer courses matched the courses of my full time undergraduate institution (http://www.yelp.com/biz/delaware-state-university-dover#hrid:jiM4UwiH0kGFLoaLK3-S5A), so there wasn't any problem with the credits earned from PGCC transferring over. All of my professors were very empathetic and worked closely with students to make sure they understood the lessons and concepts being taught. This review is specifically for the Department of Nutrition, Foods, and Hospitality Management Program: I am working on a project this Summer. I have been doing informational interviews before going forward. I reached out to the head of the Department, (not naming no names) had a few conversations over the phone and via email, she encouraged me to come visit her during her office hours. The hours were a bit inconvenient for me as I work downtown during the day. I set aside time during work hours and she told me to come over at 2:30pm on a weekday. I get there and she is gone. No message that something came up, no follow up call. I got to her office and the staff present said she was nowhere to be found? I waited a few days for her to follow up with me, but nothing, not even after I left her a handwritten note and called her office and left her a message saying that I had arrived. I hung around for at least a half hour. Well after all of that I just decided this is one course I won't be taking at PGCC-- some Hospitality! read more

I'm going here for my 2nd degree. I have a bachelor's, but now I'm in one of their health science programs. They are amazing. I've had great teachers for my prerequisites as well as in my chosen program. A lot of my coworkers go to other community colleges in other counties and have had issues with communication from staff in their health science programs. I found it funny they were more accepting of their school's shortcomings (ex. Still not having in-person classes for hands-on courses) as well as failing to communicate their school schedule earlier in year so students can make proper accommodations. Instead of calling their school out, my coworkers said their school had prestigious professors and are checking to see if students can adapt to the program. I found it funny that if PGCC did that, they would not be given that excuse. Yes, they badmouth PGCC for some reason. (My program has been on the ball since I got accepted in the early summer) Even one of my current classmates said PG wasn't where they wanted to go. I find it strange because I've taken summer courses here from my bachelors degree and I've enjoyed every class. I went to expensive Marymount University and I wished I went to PGCC from the start. Not only for the lower cost, but because my professors are consistently engaging and understanding. I'm currently doing my clinical rotation and found that there are many graduates in the area and Southern Maryland that loved their education at PGCC. Even though I already had respect for PG, but seeing the love that the clinical site preceptors have for the school was refreshing. I hope PGCC continues to evolve all their programs of study. Be the absolute best you can be because people are very willing to drag this school through the mud in other counties. read more

Ok PGCC, here is another reason why PG gets a bad rap. I signed up to take a non-credit class on Notary Public. The classroom was locked & professor & students were waiting for someone with a key to open the classroom in the Center of Advanced Technology (CAT) Bldg. I hope this ordeal isn't indicative of the class & college. The instructors are Elaine Wright & Frederick Harris who are very personable & knowledgeable. PGCC gets 3 stars because of the instructors: I'd give the instructors 5 stars... If I take another class, I may increase my rating for PGCC. read more

I brought my two children here for the Patriot Lego Robotic's program. Powerful. First class the children worked as a team and assembled a LEGO Robotic's car. They also taught values using Kohut technology and I loved that the focus is geared toward competition. My son who is a pure Geek was right at home. By the way, we arrived early to discover Video Gaming and App Design classes would be held in the adjoining rooms--so my daughter joined the App Design class--the AMAZING instructor was so engaging that I could not leave the room and really liked that his perspective (Dead Poet's Society style) was geared toward entrepreneurship--exactly what we've been looking for. In fact, my daughter already has an idea for the app she wants to design. We came right on time as this class is now full..! Finally, the children were keen and the parents like myself were fully engaged. Looking forward upcoming classes. Oh and even though I arrived in my workout gear I never did get to work out at the campus--the technology was too much fun..! Rock on... read more

I thank God I am on my last semester. This school is not bad bad but it is very extra for a community college. I feel like the schools biggest problem is the over achieving professors who didn't make it to Harvard with a lot to prove, ( one math professor made us teach ourselves because she didn't have the same "American opportunity" to go to a real school during her grade school years and had to teach herself and figured we should be able to do the same) who give you work just to keep you busy but so busy you don't remember anything by the next day because they have rushed you through all the information. They train you to be disciplined enough to work for the massa like a modern day slave not actually know WTH you're doing when you actually enter your field. Professors choose as they please to accelerate the class and students have no way of knowing until they get their syllabus the first day of class thus too late to register for another class. So you either have to risk failing if you cannot keep up or you have to drop the class and delay you're graduation time. Overall, they have a lot of crappy professors who could care less. My mom died and my professor didn't even respond to my message let alone give me any kind of breaks. read more

This is a review of the swimming pool at PGCC. The pool is clean and well maintained. It's a 50/25 meter pool with lane lines running both ways. During lap swim I've never had to share a lane. There is a deep section for diving with two 1 meter spring boards. The locker rooms are nice and everything works in them. There is also a jacuzzi available. read more

This feed back is specifically for Nursing Department who act like they know what to do. Ms. Campbell and Dr. Jeffrey are irresponsible for students dream. They come to the class unorganized and give a load of work that they never done for them self when they were in the school. Unnecessary prepue and objectives questions which doesn't not even come for the exam. They don't give proper blue print for the exam and the give exam before they even cover all chapters. Maryland board of nursing must close the nursing department to save students moral and money because the professors are irresponsible and rude specifically Ms. Campbell. She pick and choose to help students and most students hate her because she's very rude and unprofessional. She make students cry and refuse to help. Dr. Jeffrey is her friend and she doesn't care if you pass or fail. She takes a side to Ms. Campbell if you try to talk her instead of listening from both sides and resolve issues. Dr. Mackey knows what to do. She teaches with great passion. Ms. Jenna is great helper and deserves better. Overall, 1 star is many, and I don't recommend to any human beings to study Nursing at PGCC. read more

I've been here for 2 1/2 years and what i can say its...ehh...The students, honestly, are a handful in my opinion. There are a lot of immature young people here and it gets in the way for those students who aren't. Like in the classroom, unnecessary disturbances go on. :( and the people who hang out in the "Hollow tree" area are pretty creepy!!!! so you have Students who apply themselves, a lot of slackers, and a lot of loud people...:/....the schools good, students (as a majority) not as much. read more

PGCC is all about what you make it. I had a blast while I was here. Yes, some of the staff and students were rude, but that is expected anywhere! The only bad thing about PGCC is the MATH DEPARTMENT! That department makes me cringe!! The teacher's who teach math there sucks! All of the other core GenEd classes are pretty good. I am transferring this fall into a 4 year institution. Absolutely terrible. Had I been under different circumstances I would never have attended this college. The staff here is mediocre and very low effort. Every time I call over a concern or question, the staff is very rude, speak very slow, sound very tired and sick of their job. I do not understand why this happens every time and why they even have their job if they are unwilling to do it. The Owl Link system works sometimes and has given me so many issues. They've changed it and it has given even more issues. I have had problems with tuition payments and have been charged for being out of state when I was not at all. I went in person and tried to get the refund so I can get charged correctly and nothing ever came of it. During my first semester an advisor had me register to an incorrect class that was not listed on my required classes for my major. I hope they hire staff who are actually paying attention to their job. As of now, I am trying to send an email to someone because of a concern I had over a class being available. No answer on the phone, and the student email system is currently down. This is pathetic. Definitely don't even consider going to this place. If possible, please look elsewhere to spend your valuable time and money. read more

I enrolled for a class here in 2009 that I called and spoke to a Ms. Robinson to withdraw from. I remember her voice like yesterday as it was raspy and sounded as if she smokes alot.. anywho She stated she would take care of everything and assured me I would be withdrawn from the class. Well 7 years later Central Collections wants me to pay $464 for a class I never stepped foot in! I fought as hard as I could to have this charge dismissed but Ms. Robinson lied and said she did not agree to withdraw me from the class and the school sided with her. I went to Better Business Bureau... no help. I'm paying this bill because I need this chapter of my life closed but I will never recommend anyone to attend this college. Enjoy your $464 donation! I did the paralegal certificate program here in 2015, online. I picked it because it was the only program that could be completed entirely online. I had 6 professors in 8 classes. Three were good, one seemed to be tied up a lot in administrative work outside the class, and two should never have been hired as teachers. I complained to the dept head about one, that he was not actually spending any time teaching, and she said any problem I had I should work out with the professor. (?!) So the problem starts at the top. I've also taken some online classes at Anne Arundel CC, which seems to be a better school. I don't think I'd take another PGCC class again. read more

Terrible. Just plain terrible! The advising personnel doesn't seem to be very knowledgeable in what information they provide. I made sure they were aware that I was keeping detailed notes about what was said and who said it. I have never seen anything like this! I took an online course and the professor was not grading assignments, wasn't responding to questions about the assignments, and listing incorrect information. The grading section had due dates listed from past semesters making it look as if your work was late. It was ridiculous! By the 5th week of class about half of the students dropped out. One of the students had a friend who suggested we report the problem to the college president, Ms. Dukes. She passed it on to department heads who did not want to step in unless they knew the names of the students complaining! We explained our position but kept being pressed for names. We finally told the department heads that if they did not or could not address the issue we would contact the media and federal funding agencies with our concerns before they took action. If you feel you are being wronged contact the school about it immediately. If they won't address your concerns contact the media and report the school to local politicians and federal agencies that regulate public colleges. read more

It has been over twenty years ago when I was a young wet behind the ears college student. I was a very good student in high school, but when I started college my grades were at best average to say at least. I have taken some course at PGCC and transferred to University of MD College Park. I was flunking out of UMCP and was on academic dismissal. I went back to PGCC got my AA degree and returned to College Park and graduated. I wasn't that great of a student but I was so fortunate that a couple of professors and counselors had believed in me where I didn't get any emotional support from family, friends and coworkers. If you are a first generation college student, I highly recommend that you get an AA degree then transfer to a 4 year college. University of Maryland is a great school, however the professors will not take the time to work with you. You are on your own in a huge campus. I am sure PGCC has changed immensely since I left there 20 yrs ago. It is probably a lot better now that technology is changed education. read more

While the course was great and Mrs. Wilson was an awesome instructor; I do not agree with paying my hard earned money to take a course only to be jerked around when it comes time to do your job! Why have our test scores not been submitted to the PSI state boards for us to sit and take our real estate exam? I started attending PG fall of 2014. I should be graduating by Spring 2018, so this review might get updated. My opinion is that PG is what you make it. I don't think it's "like a high school" or "ghetto" or "like the 13th grade". I've had my fair share of bad professors and good professors. Ratemyprofessor.com will help you differentiate between them though. I'm involved in different clubs and events at school, the tuition is afforable (not cheap, but affordable). I wouldn't recommend the "matching program" when it comes to buying your books. They make it entirely too difficult to get the books for cheaper. That's where Valorebooks, Chegg and Amazon Student come in. Anyways, PG is good for me. I've met a lot of friends, and people who I can see me staying in touch with in the long run. So the semester is coming to a close, and I honestly tried to give PG a chance but I honestly cant. So this is directed completely towards the math department and I want to warn everyone who sees this DO NOT TAKE MATH AT PRINCE GEORGES COMMUNITY COLLEGE! You are hurting your self by doing so. First of all the class I signed up for is intro to algebra and yeah this is a developmental course, I have been stuck in this same class since 2012. The way math is set up at this school is God awful, you are forced to use mymathlab which is an online system that is clunky and unforgiving, other schools do have this system but it is not mandatory (look it up) there are schools in the maryland area who do not force you to use this clunky ass system. You almost have to teach your self when it comes to using that system. The funny thing is my professor came in to class one day and literally said im not teaching you this stuff you should already have gone over it and learned it before you came to class I am here to help you work out the kinks. WTF WHY AM I EVEN CALLING YOU A TEACHER THAN IF YOU ARE NOT TEACHING!!! Another thing and this is what tops it off. So say for you pass your development math classes or your test score is high enough to where you are put in college level math, if you where to fail that class twice no matter what your score is they will put you back down to the developmental level and you literally have to work your way back up. YOU DONT SEE NO ONE MENTION THAT IN THESE REVIEWS. The math department is sick and needs help even the damn head of the math department doesnt know wtf is going on. So again if you want to be stuck in a never ending loop at that school take math, for all of yall saying the school is so good and its the best, take math and fail it twice I bet you will change your happy go lucky ass review in a damn heartbeat. If I could give negative stars for this school I would. I am utterly DISGUSTED with my overall experience here. I am prior military going to school on VA benefits and having recently PCS'd with my husband who is still active duty to Andrews I signed up for classes on base as well as online. I had no problem signing up initially and was assured that since I was recieving post 9/11 GI bill benefits I did not need to worry about the deadline for tuition payment (which is due the first day classes begin) as that requirement was extended for veterans. Everything was all set to go.. until I logged in online the morning of the first day of classes and saw that they had all been removed from my schedule. Immediately I went to the office on base and was told that because they had not recieved payment from the VA, I had been dropped. Regardless of the fact that I had been assured that would not happen. "No problem" I was told. Simply go back online, re-register for those classes (provided they are still open) and you will be automatically extended once again. So I return home, open up my laptop and attempted to sign up for classes again only to recieve error message after error message. Once again I return to the office and am told by the same individual that "oh by the way, you actually CAN'T sign up for classes after the start date (even though that day is today) and you will have to go to the main campus to get special permission from the Dean. Sorry, we cant help you here. Off I head to the admissions office.. prior to driving over by the way, I called to confirm what I needed to have happen in order to re-register for classes and was told that since I had a full schedule of classes in different departments, I would be able to take care of it all at one time in the admissions office. Once I arrive and again explain my situation I am told that in all actuality I need to go to each and every department head and have written permission to take that class. Off I go to each individual department head. 3 out of the 4 were gone from their office for the day. Apparently business hours don't extend past 330pm. The only office where I actually found someone working was the English department where I had to stand and wait for the lady to finish a personal conversation on the phone which lasted over 15 minutes. When she finally finished her gossip I knocked on the door and again explained my situation for the upteenth time only to have her tell me that I needed to have a routing slip and had to go through her assistants first before she could help me. ANY education department that does not have an open door policy and requires a chain of command or routing slip in order for a student to rectify a serious issue is wrong! Needless to say I am so frustrated and angry with this place, they will NOT see a dime from this student, and furthermore I will ensure that each and evey chance I get I will STRONGLY urge any potential student, especially military to take their education benefits elsewhere. I would also like to add to the fact that I was never notified via email or otherwise that my classes had been dropped. I will absolutely be contacting the better business bureau to file a complaint against this school. DO NOT WASTE YOU MONEY HERE!!! read more
