I went to Brooklyn for a pedicure several times. Although he was not pleasant or welcoming, I liked his work. I tolerated is coolness for a long time, one day I was confused and came on the wrong day. He was very rude and refused to do my pedicure even if I waited. i had to wait over an hour in a shop next to his for my Senior Van to pick me up at the scheduled time. While there, I expressed my disappointment and the woman working there told me that she has heard that many people stop going to Princess Nails because everyone there is very rude and uncaring. read more

I have lived in Berkley for 7 years now and this is my first visit. It was amazing. My son who is 8 years old got his first pedicure I had a manicure. The first thing I noticed I made an appointment and I didn't have to wait we came in on time and they got to work right away. The second thing is you were not assaulted with chemicals/chemical smell this place does not do acrylic or dip so the salon is not full of headache inducing chemicals. They were so gentle with my son and explained everything they were doing. We will definitely be back. My son is excited to have another pedicure. read more

Absolutely HORRIBLE. I haven't had such a horrible shellac job, EVER. The shellac was so sloppy, it's only 6 days old and it's chipping off, lifting in all the corners. And it's all over my skin. No I will not go back and have them fix it because I have to work and do not have the time. I will cut my losses and never return to this location ever again. Oh it does not help that they don't use their AC. I was absolutely melting in their. I did not like the fact that one person started my shellac and half way through someone else finished the job. Exceptional Service! I needed a gel French manicure and it was a miracle they were able to take me in as a walk-in! Upon arrival, I was immediately greeted with a warm greeting from the sweet owner, Mai, and then she offered me some delicious warm tea. My go to spot for pedicures. Mai and her team always do a great job. My nails NEVER want to hold nail polish but they manage to make my pedis last longer than anywhere I've been previously. I have had a gel manicure done there previously and it only lasted a few days. Since this is typically how my nails respond to shellac/gel I can't really provide any insight on the service itself. Needs updating inside. Did not seem very sanitary and seemed like the tools had not been cleaned in between customers. No plastic covering in the foot soakers. Had to ask for the flip flops, they were not provided. Did not have toe separators, used paper towel instead. Just felt kind of icky the whole time. read more

Yesterday was my first visit to Princess Nails and it was a great experience. I recently suffered a stroke and called ahead to ask if they could accommodate a wheelchair client.for a mani/pedi. They assured me that they would to do do it.. Olivia greeted us at the door and helped my husband roll me in. Everyone was so welcoming and pleasant! I think the people working there are incredibly personable and very kind. I did have a nice pedicure there once, despite the tech wiping away her errors. Unfortunately I would not recommend gel/shellac here. I have Shellac all over my fingers and nailbeds now. This resulted in burning while the shellac cured on my skin as well as a less than stellar Shellac manicure. I will not be returning. read more

I wouldn't recommend Princess Nails to the dirty rascal in the Berkley castle. Feeling a bit like a peasant after a particularly fickle winter week, I traipsed into Princess Nails along with half the female population of St. John's Woods. Rule of thumb: call ahead on a Saturday to be sure there is room for you. I am not certain they take appointments, but I wish I had called ahead. Note, this place isn't very large at all. Prices are average for a nail parlor and cheaper than salons or day spas, accounting for their popularity. $8 for an eyebrow wax and $25-30 for a pedicure seems pretty reasonable. Bear in mind you're getting what you pay for in an environment that lacked the hygienic cleanliness I've come to prefer in my nail salons. Warning signs: ` No face masks ` No obvious disinfectors/tool cleaners ` Light dust all over the place It took a few minutes to attract the attention of an employee to find out the wait for eyebrow waxing. With all four pedicure chairs filled, and three of four tables occupied by people who might be clients or employees -- it wasn't clear -- I expected it to take a bit. She promised five to ten minutes. Note the waiting area consists of three wicker chairs around a table piled with magazines, and it's very cramped. Definitely not the place to come if you use a cane or walker, or you have a stroller or baggage because the shop isn't large enough to accommodate these easily. I glanced over the limited selection of nail polishes on the wall. Two or three shelves contain a limited range of colours, mostly OPI by the looks of it. The air smelled strange and the store kept the door open for fresh air because they repaired a cracked bowl or tile with some kind of compound that was making my eyes sting. My nose wasn't terribly happy about it after. Fifteen minutes into the wait, I still wasn't any closer to getting an eyebrow wax. Figuring I would come here to save $10 over a competitor, I decided the wait was excessive and there were a good five to ten ladies waiting around at any given point. A shop this small, it's not going to come around quick and they were not good about communicating how long I would be sitting about. On a quiet day, service might be better, but I probably won't be coming back. I'm a devoted fan of Luxury Nails in Clawson and while I really hoped Berkley would present a good alternative, it's not here. read more

Serving up nail polish and racism. I ended up here because there was a 30 minute wait at Eagle Nails down the street, and the $30 mani/pedi deal posted in the window caught my eye. They also don't do acrylics here, and I thought that was nice, no crazy dust masks or chemical fumes. There were two other customers getting pedicures when I came in. I asked for a mani/pedi and was ushered to a spa chair right away. The polish selection was minimal, but I just wanted something neutral. Only two women working, one in the middle of a pedicure, the other (who I assume is the owner, because she was bossing everyone around) finishing up the other customer. This customer seemed to be a regular(and a white woman), and commented when she left that she would bring her girls in again on her next visit. As soon as the door closed, the owner(an asian woman) made a negative comment about the woman's girls to the other employee. Then, she kind of putzed around for a minute, long enough that I was wondering if she was doing my pedi, or if I was waiting for the other woman to finish up. The other customer had a toddler sitting in her lap, and the owner spent a lot of attention on the little girl, and asking questions about her. They played a captivating game of "I'm gonna steal your 'baba'." Finally, the owner came over and started my pedicure. She used an electric drill thingy to smooth out the tops of my nails, without asking me if that was ok. The phone rang and she took it and walked away into the back room for about 15 minutes. I walked in at 1:30, and my pedicure was done at 2:45. Which would have been fine, if she had spent that amount of time making my feet look awesome. But she spent more energy and attention on the toddler two chairs over than me. The phone rang again, and another employee answered, the caller wanted to know how much it would cost for an acrylic fill-in (a service princess doesn't do). After the call ended, the owner asked the employee "did she sound black?" the employee responded, "what?" 'Did she sound black, the lady on the phone?" "Oh, no? I don't know?" the owner said, "Can't you tell? I can tell." I'm not sure why this was relevant. After she finished my polish, she pointed a fan at me and walked away to look at some magazines at the drying table. The other customer (a black woman) finished paying and left. After SHE walked out the door, the owner asked the employee "did she pay you?" Then she turned back to me and asked if I needed anything else. I had been debating if it was worth letting this woman do my manicure or if I should just leave and go somewhere else. I didn't really have any more time, so I asked if she could do my manicure quickly as I needed to leave soon. "Oh, why didn't you say so?" was the response I got. It appears you only get efficient service here if you alert them ahead of time. She did spray me with some quick dry so I wouldn't smudge on my way out, but my nails were full of air bubbles, so it wouldn't have really mattered. She seemed so nice when I walked in, but the comments she made, and the way the employees responded to her, makes me think this lady is a little bit crazy but thinks it's everyone else that has issues. I went for a pedicure yesterday as a new customer. I will never go back. The owner worked on me, Mai. I told her it was my first time there. She wasn't even going to clean up my cuticles until I spoke out. Even then, she did not do it good job! When she polished my nails, she actually polished over the cuticles and skin and didn't even clean it up. She put some callus burning cream on my feet and didn't even ask me if it was okay. I was constantly correcting her throughout the entire process. I can't understand if this is your only job why you are not at least good at it. What a disappointment and waste of time. The service, although supposed to be stress-free, actually created more stress for me. My toes looked worse when I got home. I took the polish off, I was so frustrated. I guess I'll have to do the pedicure myself now. Cost $25. I tipped her $4. She gave me a rude look. She's lucky I didn't ruin her day and walk out mid pedicure. One other thing... About 75% of the time I was sitting in the chair, she was talking to a regular client of hers. The focus was taken off me repeatedly. Avoid this place and avoid the disappointment. I scheduled a mani/pedi here, and although the owner and the girls were conversational and friendly once I engaged them, the service on the manicure was horrible. The pedicure was less than average, and the owner did not thoroughly clean the skin around the outside of the big toes. I'm used to my regular nail salon removing debris under the nails, and they didn't do that to either the pedicure or the manicure. The other thing is that they have two young women there, one doing the pedi, and then the owner starting doing my nails while I was in the pedi chair. The manicure started in the pedi chair with trimming the nails and filing them, My nails were catching on everything. She was going to start painting while I was in the pedi chair after that, but I insisted on going to the table for the painting process. I also noticed that they want you to walk to the table in your bare feet without flip flops, very unsanitary. After the owner did the base coats and the color, I noticed that she didn't have a hand dryer, but a fan, and you have to hold your hand 'up' high to the fan for the dryer process. She also cut my nails very short, and left the pinkie nails longer than the rest. She also didn't allow enough time to dry in between each hand. and didn't notice until I was home that the nail tips were not even filed smoothly, nor were they even across the top. The skin around the thumbs was not worked on, either - granted it's been a while since I had a manicure. On top of all of this, my nail polish started chipping before I even got home, so obviously, it wasn't dried correctly, even if it wasn't shellac. After the other customers left while I was under the one and only front dryer, the two girls were talking about how they were going to split the customer's good tip with one another, how incredibly unprofessional, but apparently, the tips are all they are interested in. I noticed this after the one girl told a previous customer the same thing she told me after the manicure was done, "that color looks good on your skin", so I said, "Oh, you say that to all the customers" - literally, she does!!. Before I wrote my check, I noticed that my cuticles were still prominent, and also that on 3 or 4 nails the cuticle was actually covered with polish, so I asked her to correct that. With all this being said, I told them that I was not in a hurry. So after they said I was 'dry', and asking if they take checks, and they said, no, not usually, but we'll take it this time. But the kicker was that I included the tip in the check at 20%, after asking if that was also o.k. after such a horrible manicure, and the girl looked at it as I gave it to her, and said nothing. I got no 'thank you' or anything! Apparently 20% was not good enough, either! The most horrible manicure ever on so many different levels, I would have been better with going without! Don't ever go here! If there was a "0" rating, I would have selected that! . read more

I was a walk-in at Princess nails on a Saturday. I suppose that reduces my right to complain, BUT... When I did walk in, there was one woman being given a manicure by the owner, Mai. Three other women and two little girls (on laps) were soaking their feet. Mai's assistant was attending to one of the pedicures. Now, I could sense the shop was busy and if I could have deemed where everyone was at in terms of their procedures, I would have known to walk out. But the owner said, "A few minutes...just wait." She seemed nice. I had read good reviews. So I stayed---figuring it would be at least 20 minutes. FIFTY-MINUTES of torture later, I was finally told I could sit down for my mere manicure. The torture dealt with two of the women (sisters) getting pedicures while the one's children ran wild throughout the small shop. The kids were cute (and the mom and aunt beamed) but cuteness wears off when obnoxious behavior sets in. Oh yeah, and during all this, the phone rang. Four other women wanted to come in as a group. They were told 11:30---when I knew very well that wouldn't happen considering it was already 11:10 and the two little girls needed to have their toenails and fingernails done ("And yes, sweetheart, you can each have a flower painted, too"). I would learn later that these two sisters had an appointment at 10:00 but were 30-45 minutes late because their little sweethearts held them up. Rude, rude, rude! On top of that, my nails looked like hell. I had kept the length because of the occasion. Those were cut down dramatically. The polish had lots of air bubbles; cuticles were not dealt with and the sander took down the ridges all right--and then some. I think my husband could have given me a better manicure! It pains me to write a bad review but the whole experience was beyond frustrating. I hope to save others from such agony. read more

I have passed this nail salon many times but never managed to go in. Now that I have, I'm never going anywhere else! First, Mai is soo nice and really wants to make sure you are comfortable and happy. They are open until 7:00 during the week. I called at 6:30 to make sure I could still get in for a mani/pedi and they said no problem and would make sure everything was set up for me when I got there. The first thing I loved was that it's a no acrylic salon so there is no nasty smell when you walk in. I was offered something to drink and sat down in the chair. While I was getting my pedicure she started my manicure at the same time. Both ladies were very efficient, worked quickly, and did a good job on my toes and nails! They used an organic scrub on my feet and legs. Also, something I never had before, they are very thorough with the foot wrap. First they put some sort of lotion, then wrap your foot in saran wrap, then a hot towel, and bag the whole thing! My feet were super soft afterward. Their polish selection isn't huge, but they have a lot of colors (OPI and Essie) and I found what I wanted. I got a shellac manicure and said that sometimes the polish lifts from my nails. Mai said that shouldn't happen but if it did to just come back in and they would redo if for me since they guarantee the polish to last for 2 weeks. Extremely friendly people at this salon. The gentleman, Nuan (not really sure how to spell it) gave me the best pedicure I've ever had, and I get my nails done A lot! He is extremely thorough and massaged my feet forever! They were super soft when he was done. He did take his time though so it was not a quick pedicure, but in this day and age I think that is nice. I came in close to closing time, not knowing what time they closed because it was my first visit, but they did not turn me away and stayed open an hour late to finish my service. The only thing I didn't like is that he used the drill thing on my cuticles/buffer, I would prefer not to have that on my nails as I'm not sure how/if it is sanitized. The polish on my manicure lasted an entire week, longer than usual. They also offered me something to drink after I sat down. The prices are average. This will now be my go-to salon. read more

This was the best mani/pedi experience I have ever had! I walked into the salon at about 6:10 and they close at 7pm. The owner assured me the man performing my services would take care of me. At no point during the service did I feel he was rushing through. He was very thorough and provided a relaxing experience. I will definitely go back and request him for another mani/pedi. The only thing this salon lacked was a large selection of colors. If you are picky about what polish or color you want, i recommend bringing your own.
