This hotel is just great! Really great! I was in Glasgow for conferences and staying here made the visit even more enjoyable in this wonderful city. Check-in had a minor issues - not the fault of the hotel - but they sorted it with lightening speed. They also have free wi-fi throughout. Impressive. The room was gorgeous, spacious, ultra clean and well appointed. My bed was beyond comfortable and I just love the old/original buildings in Glasgow and the updating of them is approriate and sensitve to the history and heritage of the city. This hotel gets that balance just right. Fantastic! Meals were very good and a wide selection including items (tasty items) for gluten free dining. The only snag is I noticed room service has some kinda pricey fees attached. Hmm. Still the food was just so yummy and those potato scones with haggis at breakfast were life! Delicious!! The location is perfect for everything, Princes Square, Royal Exchange, Buchanan, Argyle & Clyde Streets too. It's all a few minutes away. The hotel is right next to Glasgow Central Station. So Convenient. The staff here are helpful and willing to point you in the direction of any attractions, eateries or pubs. Thanks to the entire staff for a great stay!

This was the hotel we stayed in after our wedding and we returned recently when out for a night in Glasgow (to escape a particularly rough week) and spontaneously decided not to go home so we checked in here! We managed to book a deal on my husband's phone for just £71 including breakfast. Staff were welcoming and friendly (we didn't get any funny looks or comments regarding checking in at midnight with no luggage, haha!) and asked if we'd stayed with them before. I mentioned it being our wedding hotel and they welcomed us back asking when we got married, etc (I was having wishful thoughts of free upgrades but we were given a normal room). Our room was lovely (although obviously smaller than the large room we booked for our wedding which was before the suites were finished after the refurbishment in 2011) and a very good size with large wardrobes, usual coffee/tea making facilities and a good size bathroom with a bath. The room also had a bottle of complimentary sparkling water and 2 little Lily O'Brien's chocolates which is a nice touch. As we were about to make our way down to the bar to get some prosecco (to avoid the room service charge) there was a knock at our door and room service had brought us 2 glasses of pink fizz to welcome us back to the hotel! So lovely and very appreciated! The white sheets were nice and crisp and the bed very comfy - just the tonic we needed that weekend :) Breakfast was also nice (the sausages have improved since our last stay) although not amazing but we loved the mini pancakes, made fresh at the press of a button on the machine next to the buffet. My only little niggles being - the room was quite draughty (although there was a heater provided) and the curtains don't close, there's just a blind which doesn't prevent the cold air blowing in. And at breakfast, each time our teacups were filled they were filled almost to the brim if you don't pay attention and ask the server to stop! No room for any milk never mind the masses I like to add!

Polished yet cozy. My king room felt quite new; it had an eight-foot high ceiling and was very spacious. Furnishings were comparatively updated against the age of the building but were appropriately matched. Being attached to the train station is a definite plus. Two drawbacks: the room lacked electronically controlled air conditioning and, because it's located along a major bar/club strip, the thumping sound of bass might just keep a light sleeper up all night. No free wifi. Check-in begins at 3 PM and no earlier.

Really old, charming & sort of haunted. Amazing location, large.suites and great service.

    From window.

We traveled with a group and booked an extra night to accommodate an early flight from the US. The hotel is historic but rather tired. Our room was ok but the location next to the trains was terribly loud. Announcements ended at 11 pm. However there is a piano that travelers play all night! Besides the noise, the windows could not be opened due to the filth on the landing. Not sure the street side would be quieter. Recommend trying for a higher floor. Staff indicated we could not be moved. That was surprising.

Next time, I promise! The Lighthouse is tucked down Mitchell Lane and has a wonderful gift shop on the ground floor. I am a certified museum-gift-shop addict and this one is nearly as good as the one at GOMA. At the moment, they're selling some great stuff to accompany the "Hello My Name is Paul Smith" exhibition and I couldn't resist getting a couple of the pencils, an eraser as well as a nice card from the range. There's a lot of nice Scottish stuff if you're looking for a gift so it's worth a browse even if you're not planning on going to an exhibition. We were there to see the Paul Smith exhibition which is on the first floor and ticketed at £6 per adult. While I think the price is a little steep, it's a fab exhibition which was really interesting, stimulating and thought-provoking - I think we were only there for half an hour or so, but really enjoyed it. I'll definitely be back sooner rather than later for a visit to the viewing platform so I'll update accordingly! But for now, I'm already a massive fan so I can't expect the rating to change for this lovely gallery.

It's a lovely hidden museum, with free entry, and has all your museum-y needs, from general Glasgow goodness to a lovely Mackintosh exhibition. There's a 6th floor viewing platform, but you can also go to the 3rd floor and climb to the top of the viewing tower - which gives you phenomenal views of all of Glasgow. It really is something you must see! There's a cafe, a bar and a gift shop all included, and I genuinely can't believe I hadn't discovered this sooner! Go see it if you haven't already!

Tourists would flock and photograph it from every angle, creating albums on Facebook entitled "Me at St Andrews in the Square" to a sea of thumbs ups from friends who like it. Instead, this lovingly-restored 18th century church is inconspicuously located in among modern east end flats and virtually impossible to stumble across unless you are specifically looking for it. And what a pity, because when it's lit at night, it provides one of the most spectacular photo opportunities in the city. Those who do know this building, know it's one of the greatest classical churches in Europe with a truly sumptuous interior. Now used as a performing arts centre, St Andrews in the Square can also be hired as a spectacular setting for ceilidhs, concerts, weddings and receptions. Just go. I promise you will not be disappointed.

It seems to live in a sort of parallel universe, stuck in the middle of blocks of flats. I visited the cafe a few Sunday ago and, despite the sophisticated art deco style interior and impressive menu, the place was dead. I think this is because most people don't realise it's there.

Got me quotes and re-quotes and further re-quotes, as my American Colleagues changed their minds. Sorted out lunch and a coffee machine. Lots of writing space in the room, I would move into one of these rooms for the chalk board walls alone. Cover them with equations like a scene from Num3ers. The room for the whole week just worked great. Amanda and Babs are friendly, gracious folks who kick ass at getting stuff sorted for you when the people you are trying to please are less than accommodating. The wife ordered their "Fisherman" which is pan seared Scottish coley or pollock (for 27 GBP). The battered fish with the chips was more delicately done here and delicious. As an aside I tried several times to find a place here in Glasgow or in Edinburgh that did a "special" fish and chips, that is breaded with crumbs and not battered, but apparently no one does that healthier old school preparation anymore (and I need to inform my old work colleague who hailed from Glasgow and gave me this inside tip that it's not practiced anymore). I also had a Chieftain IPA. The side of peas were dryish and not flavorful and small portioned and not done as well and tasty as I have had in London or Perth, just saying. We also had their sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for dessert and that was good. The fries were mediocre. Server was friendly and attentive. 4 stars overall and a nice local flavor Glasgow outing.

When you arrive, you might be confused (like I was) at where to actually go - there are signs promoting the spa and so I thought that was the hallway I was walking down - thankfully it wasn't and it was actually the restaurant space where I was headed. The restaurant space is very slick and modern but feels like a corporate canteen. I wasn't eating on this visit but they have a set price menu of £7.95 for two courses at lunch time which I assume is from the buffet area. I was in for a meeting and service was fine - they popped over to check on drinks and delivered a jug of water to the table. I found the seats at the high tables really uncomfortable. You order and pay at till points up next to food, baked potato ovens etc. and then a number is given to you to stick on a stand on your table. The lunch menu had 4 or 5 main course options and none of them took my fancy (fish & chips, Caesar salad, gnocchi) and I honestly just wanted to leave and head somewhere else for lunch. Then we saw the pizza on the menu - it was under a different section and I'd originally thought it was the desserts - and went for those. At over £11 for a small pizza, they weren't overly offensive but certainly not worth going back for. The waitress who served us was nice and friendly but it was her first day and every question we asked resulted in her checking with someone else. We also noticed that coffees seemed pricey, with lattes listed at £4 on the menu. I did see a few people have afternoon teas, these looked lovely with sandwiches, cakes and scones but I doubt I'll be back to try them out for myself.
