I provided EBS with most of my tax documents months before the 15 April deadline and a final document about 3 weeks before the normal tax year deadline. About 3 days before the normal national filing deadline, I asked for a status check and was told by EBS that they would file an extension due to San Diego flooding but would try their best to get it done by the 15th. I was reassured multiple times that my taxes were filed and no payment was due nationally or to California until June. I happened to create a California FTB state tax account and saw a late penalty fee on 15 April and daily accruing interest on my late payment and contacted EBS to figure out why I was charged a low fee when an extension was filed and they reassured me multiple times nonpayment etc was due until June. I got a response from EBS that they would dig into it and a week later I resolved the issue myself brought multiple phone calls to FTBs archaic phone tree system. Filing a partial resident form (the non resident tax form) caused them to reject any extensions bc they assume you don't live in San Diego when the flooding happened. I was able to correct the issue myself after multiple phone calls to FTB. Extremely disappointed in EBS for the lack of follow up, false reassurances, and no communication until a couple days before the tax filing deadline that they planned to file an extension for me
