A super bargain for threading, which is way less painful than waxing. I have really sensitive skin and when I get my brows waxed I look like I was punched for about three hours. Not so with threading! I've had a few different girls thread my brows there and they all have done a great job. You can't beat 8 bucks. Even though the salon seems clean enough, it's very bare-bones. Sometimes I miss the whole spa-experience, but then when I get to the cash register I quickly recover and go on about my day. read more

Cheap little hole-in-the-wall place to get your eyebrows threaded. I came here per my Indian's friend's recommendation, and have been pleased by my two experiences (coming back for my third soon!!). 4 stars, however, because last time the girl who worked on me (the pretty one with curly hair and acne scars) grazed my right eyelashes while working on my left eyebrow (no casualty, fortunately). Kinda scary, but i just told her what was happening and she rectified her working angle right away. And yes, threading hurts like a b**ch, but these girls do such great job that i am willing to relive the experience every month. read more

This is my first time here. I found this place on Yelp. I rely heavily on reviews. The Indian lady who worked on my eyebrows was absolutely wonderful, she said her name was Mumtah (I don't know how to spell it :-( I will definitely be coming back soon. I don't live in the area but I have to come on Saturdays to Berkeley for my son's rowing team training. Eyebrows for $10 plus tip, can't beat that. Plenty of street parking. I am extremely picky when it comes to threading my eyebrows. I tried 5 different places until I fell in love with this place. They know exactly what to do with my eyebrows without having to say much. I tell them I want them cleaned and they did their magic. There was 1 time I didn't leave that happy bc my eyebrows were too thick for my liking, but that's better than over-threading. This is the only place to go in the East Bay for threading.......and Shelo does a painless job of it or as painless as it is going to get.......It's threading after all....I recommend her and no one else!!!!! I came to this location a long time ago and was not pleased with the outcome of my eye brows. I decided to give it another shot today. I was VERY impressed with today's outcome. She was absolutely amazing and I'm so mad at myself for not getting her name. It has been so hard to find a great threading place in the East Bay and after searching for 2 years I have finally found the woman that can accomplish this!! The place itself is very clean and simple with a lot of light. I took my friend here because she needed a last minute bikini wax and she was very pleased with the services offered at Priya. The prices for waxing and threading are VERY reasonable! I haven't had an issue with parking and usually can snag a space on University Ave. The staff is incredibly nice and I love that you can just walk in without an appointment. read more

Eyebrow threading places in the Bay has been near to nonexistent and if there are any, it's extremely pricey. Well not at Priya, the ladies here do a great job on the threading and for a reasonable price of $8. I've been going here since it opened to get my eyebrows threaded and they have not once raised their prices. You can also get your nails done by Lisa, she's fantastic. The decor is bare bones but clean so if you are expecting something fancy--served champagne and have yoga music in the background, then this is not the place for you. However, if you want great results for a great deal, then you are coming to the right place. read more

I have been going to Priya for quite a while now (as it is convenient for me) and have always been happy with the work. No frills, just well done and affordable threading. However, I had the worst experience to date at Priya just this week where the threader made me bleed. One cut on each side below my brows. I remember feeling like the work was a little more painful than usual but I had chalked it up to there being a line and the woman feeling rushed. However, when I got back to my office I found two horizontal thread-thin cuts (not visible during salon inspection due to the lighting). I will go elsewhere if I see the same woman is the only one there again. I can't remember the younger, Asian girl's name but I find her work to be much better. My pretty little eyebrows thank you! Lisa (the owner of this salon) is really awesome! She is accommodating and flexible! One of the best experiences of waxing I have had in my whole life. I didn't even have to look for the spots left one. I will definitely be coming here always! But the Henna/Mehndi tattoo lady she has is not at all a professional. She does not even know how to apply Henna. I was actually looking for a Mehndi/Henna place for Eid and I stumbled upon Priya Beauty Salon. Lisa answered and gave me the number for Tina (to make a Henna appointment). Tina told me she will take $10 for each side of the hand. Fair enough! She sad she knows how to apply Henna and is a professional. When I went there with my sister, she said she does not know how to make designs and will make whatever comes in her head. We assumed she is a creative. Umm but what she did to our hands was what my 1 year old niece might do better. She just made a ton of Ws. It was disgusting! Frankly speaking, I should have told her to stop there, but I was waiting that it might get better. For the love of GOD, NEVER GET HENNA TATTOO from here! I went here to get my eyebrows, upper-lips and forehead threaded. By far, this was the most "unclean" job. Hair not removed - a job not finished. I will not go back here. read more

After getting my eyebrows done by the same amazing Indian woman in NYC for 5 years I was nervous. I am Indian - and was referred to by another Indian friend living in SF. As I recently moved I knew I had to find a new place. Priya was great. My eyebrows are even - and she did exactly what I asked - clean up, no change in shape. Definitely worth a trip to the East Bay - especially since its walking distance from the bart.... I came across this place while browsing yelp, I have also seen their shop while driving by University ave in Berkeley but never quite had the chance to drop in. They take drop-ins btw... Sheilo is my person to go. she is there usually working around noon. She is great! Really nice person and really helpful. I have gotten my eyebrows done twice by her. Once by someone else and there were a few missing hairs from some spots where there should not have been. I recommend this place for the price. It is around 9 dollars to get your eyebrows threaded and 27 for the entire face and they do a really good job of removing every tiny hair. It was initially a bit painful but i got used to it. This is one of the best places for threading around. I'm regularly complimented on my eyebrows...(which is kind of a weird thing, but nice). I go regularly and can say all of the women on staff who thread have 'light hands' (meaning it hurts very little or not at all). I especially appreciate that they work quickly once you get in the chair, but are all very detailed-oriented. Consider calling ahead to make an appointment if you don't have time to chill waiting. I LOVE this place. I have very sensitive skin, so waxing has always left my skin sore, red, and very painful. I recently discovered threading, and have tried out a couple of places in Berkeley. This is by far the best - I've been a loyal customer for a few years now. I am very picky about my eyebrows, so when I recently had to see someone at Priya other than Shelo (sp?) I got very nervous. To my surprise, the woman who threaded me was amazing, as is everyone else I have gone to since then. It is so nice to walk in without an appointment and know that whoever you get is going to be great. I don't even need to give them any directions about what I want/don't want - I know that they don't need it. The price is nice ($9 without tip), the time and pain are minimal, and the shaping is excellent. Beware, though - this place is no frills. To me, that's not a problem - I'd rather have great eyebrows than cute salon decorations! read more

BOMB threading. They don't talk to you much but who cares -- its $9 for eyebrows and $15 for eyebrow/lip and I always walk out of there with gorgeous, even, shapely brows which I can not say for the other places I've been in the area. If you can make it all the way down here do it! :) read more

I come here about twice a month and get my eyebrows done. They are super friendly and nice. I always happen to get the same girl, but i never happened to get her name, though we have an understanding with eachother on exactly what to do and what not to do with my eyebrows. The best time to come in is midweek when they are not busy. Usually the weekends are totally packed. As for the review complaining about the Hena not being available directly there. I actually went there a few months ago, asked about Hena and she did direct me to go to the store accross the street. The store is run by a husband and wife. The wife is the one that does all the hena for Priya. She is very talented and sweet. I know it's a little weird that they outsource like that, but that's just how it works out there! usually i go to threads beauty bar in dublin, because i work in dublin, to get rid of unwanted visible signs of too much testosterone coursing thru my blood but since i just moved to berkeley, walking distance from Priya, what the hell, right? well...not much to be said for ambience here but you will definitely walk away as hairless as a sphinx. the woman who threaded my upper lip and chin was about as gentle as Annie Wilkes but she got the job done, with only a little lingering misery on the way home. and when i washed my face afterwards...ouch. next day, no stinging, no bumps, i look like an xx again and i only spent ten bucks! i'll come back for sure. read more
