I've taken my car here twice for different repairs. Both times they charged way more than they had…read morequotes and one of the visits, the mechanics opened and dug through my center console and glove box. They were supposed to be changing my tire. There was no reason for them to open and dig around in my glove box and console. They threw my personal items all over my vehicle, onto the floor, into the back seat. Including my insurance card, feminine products, work badge, panties, and more. I spoke to the front desk employees. Hopefully the mechanic(s) was reprimanded and trained to be less creepy. Get your hands off my panties and tampons, you creep!

I called Sams based on reviews. I told them the year and model of my vehicle and asked for a brake…read morequote. They said $300 per axle. I asked if they were sure, since I had gotten a higher quote elsewhere. Yes. He said bring it in (the next day) and we will have it done by noon. We brought it there the night before (20 mile drive total). They called the next day at 10 am. He said well we won't have it done by noon but I think I can get the parts by tomorrow. He said that the vehicle is bigger than we thought and needs a different kind of brakes than we thought. I said well can you get back to me on the pricing? He said ok and called back with a quote for over $1200. I told him that wouldn't work for us and we will come back and pick it up. Ford shop had already told us that quote without looking at it. My husband went to pick up the van. When he got there he was told there was a $25 charge for looking at the vehicle. At this point they had made an assumption, didn't clarify, and therefore quoted brake repair on the wrong vehicle, and now were asking us to pay for that mistake. When my husband started to explain the confusion to the guy behind the counter a second guy came up and started arguing. He interrupted my husband and said that any time you have a shop look at your vehicle you're going to get charged. My husband told him nobody asked them to look at the vehicle. We already knew what was wrong with it. When he started to explain again why this was their mistake (didn't confirm vehicle type even when asked if they were sure) the new guy kept interrupting. My husband said that the $25 isn't much money, but it's the principal of the matter. We didn't need a diagnosis, and wouldn't have wasted our time if they hadn't given us a bad quote to begin with. He was never able to say it though because they guy kept interrupting and being belligerent. The last comment from the guy behind the counter was "If the $25 is that big of a deal then don't pay it, but don't ever come back here again". So we won't. They had three chances to give good customer service: 1. Ask enough questions to know what kind of vehicle they were quoting work on. 2. As soon as they realized they had not done the first, call and confirm we still want work done BEFORE putting the vehicle on the lift. 3. Listen to the customer say these two things before arguing with them. They never listened that long before interrupting. If the work you need them to do is standard you may not have an issue, but if you run into anything out of the ordinary they won't admit fault or try to understand you. They have no clue what customer service means, and therefore it's a good chance you'll regret doing business with them.

I love motorcycles. I REALLY love motorcycles. I dream about them probably once every week or…read moretwo, which considering how often I dream, is a lot. I also love visiting motorcycle dealerships. It's so fun to sit on the bikes, pretend I'm zipping down the freeway or cruising around the lakes, and generally looking cool. Jungclaus Motorsports in Glencoe is a great shop to check out, even if it's a bit of a drive. On my third visit to the shop, I found a nice little Suzuki GZ250, which is like the starter version of their big cruiser Harley lookalikes. Chris Rosendahl, the sales and parts manager, came up and started chatting with me about bikes, and not in an annoying or obtrusive way. He loves bikes, and I love bikes. So we talked about how cool bikes are. He asked questions about what I was hoping to get out of a motorcycling experience, and over the next 30-45 minutes was able to offer some very helpful advice and clear up some misconceptions that I'd had. For example, he said that, rather than change tires myself, I could take the wheels off my bike, bring them in with the tires, and they will put the new tires on for $25 per wheel. It'd cost $50 per wheel if I bring the whole bike in and have them take the wheels off. As we wrapped up our conversation, he said something that made me want to hang on to his business card forever. He said, "Of course I'd love for you to buy a bike from us. But even if you don't, even if you're in some guy's garage and thinking about buying his bike, feel free to give me a call and ask anything. I'm happy to help." I may not buy a bike from Chris at Jungclaus (more for reasons of affordability than anything else), but they'll get my business when it comes to riding gear and maintenance.
