To help our students prepare for life, prepare for careers and have a plan for their future. In our welding program we have over 150 years of combined experience. Our HVACR instructors are running close to that and our Auto and DIesel instructors run way above that. While some students may have some challenges with some instructors, thats understandable and never an excuse to have some attitude disparities, remember in life, you will deal with that, you will have co-workers and bosses that you will not get along with. I've seen other Fortis locations…read morelisted, but they have different addresses, so to be clear, this review is for the Fortis Institute located at 450 N Sam Houston Pkwy E, Ste 200, Houston, TX 77060. I attended this school for the Medical Assistant program to work toward becoming a CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant). At the beginning, my experience was okay and I didn't have many issues with my classes or instructors. However, as I got further into the program, my experience started to change. There were three staff members in particular that I had issues with. 1. Ms. Marin: I later found out that she would talk about me and my friends, and there were times when she would call us out in front of the entire class in a way that made us feel singled out or less than everyone else. I don't think students should be made to feel embarrassed in front of their classmates, especially by an instructor. 2. Ms. Nun: Whenever I had class with her, I felt like we barely learned anything. I specifically remember my friends and I asking if we could go through the skills list and practice different things to see what we still remembered and what we needed more help with. We were trying to make sure we were actually prepared, but our request was basically ignored and we barely practiced anything. 3. Ms. Moxcley: Toward the end of the program, we were told that we would receive assistance with finding employment. I remember reaching out to her multiple times about finding a job, but I would either receive no response or very little communication. Because I wasn't getting anywhere, I recently contacted Ms. Goss for help finding an MA position. I explained that I'm specifically interested in working as a Medical Assistant in an OB/GYN clinic. She told me she would call me. When she called, I happened to be busy and missed it, but I returned her call shortly afterward. She didn't answer, so I sent her a message letting her know I had called back and was available. This happened Tuesday. By Friday, I still had not received a response to any of the messages I sent afterward. I finally sent another message, and she responded saying she would call me "momentarily." I waited about two hours and still did not receive a call. That is what finally pushed me to leave this review. One of the things students are told is that Fortis will help them with employment after completing the program. In my experience, once you're finished with the school, getting that help has been extremely frustrating. Messages go unanswered, communication is inconsistent, and the employment assistance I was told I would receive has not been what I expected. I also don't understand the point of asking students what area they want to specialize in as an MA if the positions they are being directed toward aren't related to what they said they were interested in. I understand that nobody can guarantee you a specific job, but there is a difference between not being able to guarantee employment and simply not communicating with a former student who is actively asking for assistance. I completed my program and I'm genuinely trying to start my career and put my education to use. I'm not asking anyone to hand me a job. I'm asking for the career assistance and communication that we were told would be available to us. Unfortunately, my experience trying to receive that assistance has been extremely disappointing.

I would strongly recommend doing your research before enrolling in the HVAC program here…read more When I first enrolled, I was told by the advisors that completing the HVAC course would count as two years of experience toward the requirements for technicians. After completing the program and spending thousands of dollars, I found out that the program was not approved by the State of Texas for that purpose. That was extremely disappointing, especially considering this was information I specifically relied on when deciding to enroll. The cost of the program also does not seem to match the education and hands-on training provided. During the seven-month program, many of the courses covered the same material repeatedly. Of the seven courses I took, I would estimate that approximately 85% of the content was repetitive. The hands-on portion was another major issue. There were multiple occasions where the lab did not have the necessary materials or proper tools available. We were frequently told that materials would be available the following week, but they often were not. In my opinion, an HVAC program should prioritize hands-on training and making sure students have access to the equipment and tools they need to actually learn the trade. I also found it unnecessary that a solar panel course was incorporated into the HVAC program. After spending years working in the HVAC industry, I have found that solar is not something we regularly work with in the field. I paid over $20,000 for the program, and honestly, the only part I feel provided significant value was some of the tools included with the program--and even then, I would estimate that only about 30% of them were genuinely useful to me. Overall, I felt that attendance was prioritized more than the quality and depth of the training. I would not recommend this HVAC program based on my experience. I have personally spoken with several other people who were considering attending and shared my experience with them, and they ultimately chose different schools and have been much happier with their training. This is simply my personal experience, but I believe prospective students deserve to know what they may be getting into before spending this much money on an HVAC education.

Jesse, one of the teachers, puts in extra effort in the electronics class to make sure you get your MECP Certification. I could not have ask for a better experience and opportunity.
