*Beware of Fortis Institute - A Total Scam** If I could rate 0 stars I would !!!!!!!!!!! If you're considering Fortis Institute North for the Surgical Tech program, save your money and go elsewhere. This school is incredibly unprofessional and a complete scam. You'll be paying $30,000 only to receive a subpar education with outdated equipment and inadequate resources. Surgical tech students are forced to work off dental stands instead of proper Mayo stands, and most of the time, you're left in a room to teach yourself with little to no guidance from instructors. The turnover of faculty is staggering. In the few months I attended, the program director and the dean were both fired, and the new hires didn't last long either. The program director quit within six weeks, and the new dean resigned after just a month. The constant staff changes make it impossible to get consistent, quality instruction. Hospitals are refusing to take Fortis students for clinical rotations because they know we're not properly trained. We even had to donate supplies from our clinical sites back to the school because Fortis didn't have the instruments or materials we needed to learn. The president, Jeff Fowler, is another problem altogether. He doesn't engage with students, is dismissive of any complaints, and seems more concerned with profit than providing a real education. His military background might explain his attitude, but it doesn't excuse his failure to listen to student concerns or hold his staff accountable. Fortis lost its accreditation for the NBSTSA due to low passing rates, meaning we can only sit for the NCCT exam. We were promised we could earn our associate degrees, but now that's off the table. To make matters worse, the credits you earn here are essentially worthless - they don't transfer to other schools, leaving you stuck unless you want to start over somewhere else. One student even considered going to the VA to stop her payments because she felt she had learned nothing. There are also unprofessional relationships between staff and students happening under the president's nose. All in all, this is by far the worst educational experience of my life. Please don't let them trick you into thinking you'll receive a quality education - it's simply not true. read more

And I wanted to take this time to recognize these two ladies, Tammy Buster and Vivian Goss, who work in the Career Services Dept at the Fortis Institute North Campus. They are so amazing, ladies, and they helped me in getting the remote current job that I just started a week ago. From the bottom of my heart, words can't express how much they mean to me, and I know at times I would get on their nerves with the many text messages and emails, but they truly were able to see how driven and eager I was to work in a rewarding career. They saw how passionate I was in helping people and making a difference in my patients' lives and healthcare as a whole. Fortis Institute has excellent sterile processing and career services departments. Ms. Adkins and Mrs. Gasper were excellent instructors that made the lessons interesting and informative. They made everyone young and old in the class feel comfortable. Mrs. Pervis and Mrs. Harvey were excellent presenters. They provided helpful and informative interviewing tips and suggestions for resume writing. I would highly recommend this school for someone looking for a change in a career during middle age. read more

Ms. Adkins in SPT is my favorite teacher, she gets down to business and makes sure you knows all of what you need to know to exceed in the future. I recommend her to anyone whoever decides to go back to school. The course is not hard at all *easy peasy*, with NO MATH AT ALL. And for Ms. Pervis she is a wonderful i mean wonderful career specialist her and Ms. Adkins together you are GUARANTEED TO COME OUT WITH A SUCCESSFUL CAREER. If I can rate this school at a negative one I would. The absolute WORST school I have ever attended. PLEASE SAVE yourself and save your money.
