You've given him a sense of academic and intellectual pride that he will carry lifelong. You've given him the confidence and validation that if he puts his mind towards studying consistently that he can achieve his goals. You were consistently reassuring towards him throughout the tutoring sessions about his capabilities, far more than I was even as his mother. The knowledge that you gave him is only overshadowed by the confidence you instilled in him. I still can't believe that he achieved the score and overall it wasn't a giant investment of time, just sessions once a week with not much homework in between. Your sessions with him were clearly very effective, as Jacob even quoted you upon leaving his test and used so much of what you taught him to power through. Language occasionally suffered from critical typos that could seriously hinder one's learning, especially if you were a complete newbie to the math. Thankfully, students caught most of these and asked in forums. 3) weekly graded assignments Some addt'l criticisms aside from the extremely light content for $500: I raised the idea of a forum for students/TA's/the professor to raise addt'l data mining questions. This was met with immediate defensiveness - the VP of the company posted that essentially, there was no way any student was going to get any additional learning out of the class without them being able to charge for it. If we had questions about something else, pay the $500 for each other course. This reflects well the company's approach to all its classes. All lessons were taught on an MS Excel-based tool that didn't allow for any parametrization or algorithm tweaking, as one would have in R or Python. Again, "pay for those courses if you want that content." They'll rip off a lot of people who don't know that between Stack, http://datasciencemasters.org/, simple Google searches, Hastie introduction to statistical learning, you can get 10000x the content for free.

With less than 12 students per class, the teachers really encourage students to get to know each other and really speak only the language. If you don't like the class and/or teacher within the first two classes, you can get a refund or switch to another class! I have tried other language courses in DC, but Fluent City really helped me learn and use my Spanish most proficiently. It really takes a lot of extra time and effort to be more fluent on the language yourself, but in the city of DC, Fluent City tries their best to make sure that you are Fluent in your City!!! Offering a variety of languages other than Spanish, Fluent City is the way to go especially if you want to use it for employment, take up a new language, or just explore the world!
