I took Ben's 100 hour course for the June 2019 LSAT. After studying for 3.5 months, I had a 21 point increase from my initial diagnostic exam to my official exam. Ben keeps class fun and focused, and the LSAT Demon was perfect for studying on the metro during my commute. The tutors were not good, but you don't need them. Between Ben's video explanations and class, you will be well equipped. The classes are a bit large, but I made three amazing friends out of this class. We all stay in touch still. This course really worked out for me. I was admitted to multiple T14 law schools and received significant scholarship at all of them. It's absolutely worth paying for the class to get into a great school with a great scholarship package. Plus, I met a ton of classmates who also took this course, so its a great icebreaker when you meet other DC people. Ben is an excellent LSAT instructor. I took his class where he did a fantastic job at communicating very complex subject on a way that made them understandable and even fun at times. His LSAT Demon study software is very well-made with extensive explanations for the vast majority of the questions from each of the 94 (?) released exams. The AI software really helps you focus in on the areas you're really struggling with and regular use, at least in my experience, is guaranteed to help raise your score. When I was studying for LSAT, I researched so many different places and ended up choosing Strategy Prep without feeling 100% assurance. But that was one of the best choice I've made. I chose the hybrid option and there were so many ways to practice (in a guided way through lsat demon) and practice tests along with little seminars and tutoring sessions on the side that help with the application, essays and what not. Even the admin was always available for any questions. I personally had to drop out in the middle because of personal issue and everyone was sooo accommodating and understanding. There's a lot of BS out there, Strategy provides real explanations to questions all across the spectrum in difficulty. If you are looking for someone who simply is going to present you with some test LSAT problems and then send you on your way then Strategy and Ben are NOT for you. Ben has been amazing throughout the entire LSAT study process and his assistance and encouragement are the only reason why I have done so well. I have done the private study sessions for over 6 months now and have seen a steady increase in my LSAT scores. Now I can approach each and every problem with ease and am even cutting my time nearly in half. Ben is not cocky as the covert and mysterious "student" George K. portrays him, rather is available to assist with any questions 24/7 and has even answered my really concerned emails at 2 am in the morning. Strategy LSAT Prep saved my life. On the first day, Ben asked me what score I wanted. I told him. And that was the exact score I ended up getting. I think I had the best possible experience studying for the LSAT at Strategy. I took the 100-hour class and did some one-on-one tutoring with Ben Olson. After two months my score went up 25 points. Ben really knows the LSAT, and more importantly he can explain it clearly. The class was awesome. There were 30+ people and somehow Ben knew everybody's name on the first day. We all got along real well and it was easy to ask questions. Ben really seems to genuinely care about all of his students. He was invested in all of our scores and really gave everyone the attention they needed. Ben was a better teacher than most of my professors at GW. He was able to teach everything you need to know to get a high score and he made it interesting. When I started practicing, I couldn't do the logic games to save my life. After working with Ben for a bit, games were my favorite. He is a funny guy so it makes studying for the LSAT not bad at all. I enjoyed myself. With the class you get a very helpful course book, a ton of official LSAT tests, and proctored exams every Saturday. If you do the homework, go to all the classes, and take all the practice tests, you will be in great shape. Like I said, I also did one-on-one tutoring. This was HUGE. We quickly identified my weaknesses and fixed them. It was worth every second. Once I got my score back. Ben helped me edit my personal statement, optional essays, and resume. Ben knows exactly what law schools are looking for and I trusted his opinions completely. He took my statement, resume, and essays to the next level. He is quick yet methodical. (using exclusively Strategy's materials to prepare, and having just about no prior knowledge of the LSAT) In addition to leaving the course feeling comfortable with the test material, I really appreciated Ben's attitude/approach to the LSAT in general. I wholeheartedly recommend Ben and Strategy Prep! I took his 100-hour course for the June 2015 LSAT. I started out at 160 and was averaging mid-170s by the time I took the test. Although I don't have my official score back yet, I can confidently say that Ben's course fully prepared me and if I scored lower than my average, it's certainly not because of him. Ben's competitive advantage is that he owns Strategy Prep (support local businesses!). His full time job is teaching the LSAT, and he is clearly passionate about it. Contrast this with an instructor at a big national chain who is (under)paid hourly and is inherently less invested in the satisfaction and success of his/her students. For example, I was sick for the initial diagnostic test, and as soon as I let Ben know, he overnighted me the book so I could take the test the next day. I've heard plenty of other stories like this from fellow students of Ben going above and beyond. Best of all, Ben made class fun, and the LSAT was a more painless experience because of him. I was a little worried that Strategy Prep may lack the bells and whistles of a company like Kaplan or TestMasters. Those fears were completely unfounded. First of all, practice tests are the most important study material, and you get as many as you can do. Beyond that, you'll get a few prep books and he has more material on deck if you want to drill a particular section or question type. Ben films every lesson, has video explanations for all the LG, and even brought in Ann Levine one night (admissions expert) and gave us a free copy of her book. He has an open help session once a week where you can come get more individualized attention, and he also hosts a bangin' podcast (Thinking LSAT) with another LSAT guru, Nate Fox. I took the 100-hour class to prep for the Feb. LSAT. Ben was fantastic--he actually made going to class after a long, ridiculous day at work NOT feel like pulling teeth. On top of that, his way of explaining logic games (my personal source of trouble) was immensely helpful, and you really did feel like he cared about how you did. He even provides online resources. If you do the work he advises you--even if you just do the bare minimum of homework problems--you will definitely see improvement. I saw the review below complaining about the materials--can't disagree enough, I thought they were very helpful. I can't say enough about Strategy Prep! I had previously taken the LSAT once before and was looking to bump up my score. Ben's class was an absolute success. His teaching methods are interesting and engaging and help you to stay motivated and on track to reach your target score. He is a great communicator in and out of the classroom and even though I took a group class I noticed he takes the time to get to know each of his students individually to help them on areas of weakness. I improved upon my previous score to get to my target range and I could not have done it without Ben's help. The study materials are fantastic and Ben is always willing to provide you with more if you are a lunatic like I am and work through all the materials. Because of his help on the LSAT, I was able to gain acceptance and scholarships into many of my top choices and was placed on the waitlist at a number of T-14 schools. I took Strategy Prep's 100-hour class from October to December in preparation for the December 2015 LSAT and I cannot say enough good things about the class and Ben's staff. All of the resources we might have needed were made available - including what seemed like endless practice problems, several proctored tests each week, and extra help sessions. Instead of blindly drilling problems, Ben had us learn the hows and whys of question types, which is critical to getting the most questions correct in the shortest time possible. Even though the class was full, the experience was very personalized. If even one person was having difficulty with a problem Ben would find a way to explain it differently; he was focused on making sure that all of the question types made sense to everyone. Having done marginal studying before the class started in October, it was a (wonderfully) bizarre experience to walk into the high-stress LSAT room feeling calm and prepared. Long story short, my score rose by 18 points from my cold diagnostic to my official LSAT. As with any course, there's no guarantee that your score will change at all, but from speaking with others that were in Ben's class that kind of jump is not an anomaly. I made a Yelp account just to review Ben and Strategy LSAT. I started with a 155, and tried to self-study. I managed to bring myself up to the low 160s after a month or two, but I knew I could do better. As soon as I started with Ben's 40-hour class, I realized I was starting to love the test. He makes it feel easy and fun. In addition to the four-hour class each week, plus a suggested amount of homework, you also can come for extra help (sort of a study hall environment where you can work quietly but also ask Ben any questions that come up), and a full, real, timed preptest every Saturday. It added up to a perfect amount of materials and resources, and ensured that I felt enough gentle pressure to stay on top of studying. I just took the official test and got a score in the low 170s -- above the 75th percentile for most schools! I can't thank Ben enough! He really understands the LSAT and how to teach the skills you need in a simple way that doesn't add confusion. For anyone looking for a positive experience with a great teacher, this is a terrific investment. If you're on the fence about this class, you might want to check out the podcast that Ben co-hosts (look up Thinking LSAT Podcast) to get an idea of Ben's philosophy toward the test. Hi, I saw a really negative review and wanted to tell about my experience to balance things out. I haven't been put up to do this by Ben at Strategy or anyone else. In fact, I haven't spoken to him or anyone else in his company since I started law school. I just had a life-changing experience there and wanted to comment. I took the Strategy Test Prep courses about two years ago. I worked my butt off and my score on practice tests went from 152 to 170. The entire time, Ben was there to encourage and explain. He was really good with me and the other students. I am absolutely positive that, had I wanted, I could've gotten a 180 because Ben gave me all the tools that I needed to succeed. One thing I noticed was that the amount of work that Ben had us do for the exam was huge. Most of the students in my class didn't buck up and get it done. Many of us were working professionals and it was hard to find the time. However, I found that if you did the work that Ben thoughtfully assigned, and focused on following the feedback he provided, you'd pretty much crush it. Ben was also instrumental in improving my personal statement. I don't consider myself a particularly great writer. It must've been painful to read my initial drafts. Ben persevered, and using his feedback, my personal statement was greatly improved. I don't know how much time Ben spent on my personal statement, but it was probably a lot. I would've paid a lot to get his opinion, but it was a free service to the students that he taught. I did really well on the LSAT and applied to thirty law schools. Between my score and my personal statement, I got full-ride scholarships to twenty-two of them. I paid Strategy less than $1,000 in tuition, and ended up controlling over $1.5M in scholarship money. I wanted to relocate out of the Washington, DC area, and had multiple opportunities in every region of the country. I eventually took a full-ride offer in Minnesota and will be whistling my way past graduation and totally debt-free. It is rare to find a someone who can both conduct himself professionally and offer a service valuable enough to justify the fee. But Ben is one of them. I feel a great debt to Strategy Test Prep. While Strategy Prep provides you with useful resources such as old LSAT exams and free access to the LSAT Demon for the duration of the class, I found it to be overpriced and impersonal. The class is rather large, conducted by Ben, once a week. There is additional tutoring offered weekly. Many of the tutors were not knowledgeable or helpful and seemed to treat the time as a social hour. Ben sometimes appeared visibly annoyed in class while asked certain questions in class that did not relate to the content he was teaching, such as in Reading Comprehension or the LSAT writing section. Not until after the class ended and until I begin lessons with a different private tutor was I finally able to understand logical reasoning and increase my score dramatically. If you choose Kaplan, Princeton Review or any other LSAT tutoring service, you are making a huge mistake. Strategy Prep is possibly the number 1 LSAT prep course in the entire country. They not only help you understand the ins and outs of the LSAT but they give you the tools to literally become a master of the test. Within two weeks of their program my score went from the upper 140's to the upper 150's and low 160's. I started the 100-hour course knowing absolutely nothing about the LSAT, and the course really pointed me in the right direction in terms of how to study and how to comprehend the LSAT. Even after I finished the course and took the LSAT, Ben's study materials were available to me online for another 6 months, so when I started studying again (retakes are very common in the LSAT world, so I don't want anyone to think that Ben's class wasn't good enough to get me my dream score on the first try) I still had access to the study materials. During my second testing attempt, Strategy Prep put themselves at my disposal to help me with whatever I needed. I ended up getting my goal score after starting in the 150s. The whole set up is ideal to making the studying experience enjoyable, collaborative, and comfortable. The layout of how the classes progress is ideal and allowed me to create a solid foundation to build upon. Also, the amount of content and additional materials they provide you with is A LOT! Not only that, but the optional courses on top of the regularly scheduled courses are great. It really shows a level of dedication to providing you with an optimal experience. I did the shorter class and was worried about the length and how thoroughly I would be prepared. However, after I took the class I knew I was ready to go and I did much better than expected on the test. The instructor is always thoroughly prepared, very available outside of class, and knows the test (and all the tricks to master it.) First, I must say that there is no other LSAT company like Strategy Prep (SP). SP gives weekly diagnostic tests, which are incredibly valuable. IF companies give diagnostic tests, they generally only give four throughout the whole course. Secondly, Ben goes above and beyond to help his students. Every day of class he gets there early to answer questions from struggling students (at not additional charge), he stays late every class day to continue answering questions, and after the weekly diagnostic he stays several hours late, just reviewing some of the hard questions with students. You will never find this at other companies. To empirically illustrate the effect of Ben's time and diligence, my score increased 10 points after going to SP, and I am certain that that is nothing I could have achieved by myself. Furthermore, Ben's answers are comprehensive, detailed, and most importantly, correct. He never flippantly addresses a question and will always go above and beyond to show why a particular answer is correct. In fact, I am studying by myself using powerscore and kaplan books and many times I will email Ben to understand why a particular answer is correct because the analysis given in these books are minimal. I have been emailing Ben for over a year with these questions, and even though I am not a student of his anymore, he continues to graciously email me back with a detailed answer. This diligence and desire to see his students personally succeed is unique to Ben and his company. Finally, I agree with George in that it takes a lot of time and self-work to get a good score. But you must not only study, but study effectively. I studied for several months before I took a course with Strategy Prep. After the course, my study habits and methodologies greatly improved, which enabled me to study effectively and efficiently. I give SP full credit for this. I could not disagree more with George K's assessment of Strategy Prep or Ben, and I would bet that students like George are few and far between after taking a course with Strategy Prep. Rather, George is simply upset that he still cannot master the LSAT and seeks to blame others rather than own his own inadequacies. It is obvious that George K's comment is lacking depth and truth when he resorts to ad hominemly attacking Ben's family instead of something substantial. As a former student who took the class with Ben and did private tutoring, I find this comment 100% false, and am actually appalled at it. Ben is far from a fraud, and is an excellent teacher. I took the 40-hour class in 2012 with Ben and had an enormously positive experience. Ben is an extraordinary instructor who is very generous with his personal time and dedicated to teaching. The strategies were explained clearly, and the class notes were helpful. That said, the class is more of an overview of the LSAT most helpful to people who have just begun studying - this is probably true of all LSAT classes in general. There is a diverse range of starting scores and end goals in the class, and people have varying amounts of commitment to studying for the LSAT. This doesn't mean that students already scoring at the high end should not take a LSAT class - they should just have different expectations for what they can achieve. Individual LSAT tutoring might be a better option. For high-scorers, a class provides motivation, structure, and some strategies, but there's also a significant component of individual study necessary to receive a score competitive for the top schools. The most valuable part of the class for me was not necessarily learning new strategies (you can get these through the Logic Games Bible), but having someone to answer questions and having a structured time to study. Having an instructor who clearly cares about his students makes all the difference. For students who are scoring in the 160s or lower, I don't think different test prep companies teach dramatically different approaches to the LSAT, although I could be wrong. I would mainly select a LSAT course based on the helpfulness of the instructor, and Ben was really terrific. read more

Ben is really as good as it gets. I met with him a few times one-on-one, and he made each session very worthwhile; I can't speak to the classes, but I imagine they would also be helpful. Ben's thoughtful - considerate of what you're struggling with or trying to improve - and very knowledgable about the test itself. He's got all the materials you could dream of: books, packets of practice problems organized by difficulty, type, etc. (He makes sure to present them to you in a manner that's helpful and not overwhelming. You won't just walk in and find five books and a mound of paper sitting at the table.) He tailors all of this material to you, and he helps think of the strategies and tactics for the test that might work best for you - there's no one-size-fits-all approach with him. Probably most importantly, Ben enjoys working with his students - that rubs off and makes the preparation a lot easier and more enjoyable! If you're planning to take the LSAT and you live in DC, I would strongly recommend enrolling in a course at Strategy Prep. When I decided to take the LSAT, I wanted to find an instructor who would help me understand the material in the test and teach me strategies for taking it. Preparing for the test is intense. I wanted someone committed to thinking critically about it and to supporting balanced, efficient study skills. Ben is that guy. He cares so much about the LSAT and the types of thinking it demands that he hosts a podcast about it. And that passion shows in his approach to teaching. I took the 100-hour course. My score went up by 12 points from the diagnostic to the actual exam. I've gotten into a number of top schools, with some scholarship offers, and I feel that is in part because of how Ben's class helped me prepare for the LSAT. I've read several books on LSAT prep, but none of them approach the games quite like Strategy does. Interestingly, no one explaines how to link the contrapositives in the same way. Where can I start? I took Ben's course twice over and spent the following 6 months studying for the LSAT. In that time, I mastered all of the fundamental skills the LSAT measures and how to effectively take the test. Ben was there to help me every step of the way (especially after I completed the course) as I began taking every LSAT practice exam since the mid 1990s. Let me just say that the LSAT Strategy Prep course was fantastic, and please let me explain why. I enrolled in Strategy Prep with no prior knowledge of the LSAT. That's right, nothin'. No diagnostic, no prior reading of books, blogs...just perhaps perusing an LSAT review book for a few minutes, so I was really starting from scratch. That said, others in my class had already studied for, and taken the LSAT once already, so the student experience level was mixed, which was good. The instructor is Ben Olson, who is an LSAT genius and genuine good person. He is also the owner of LSAT Strategy Prep, and has a vested interest in your success. This is in stark contrast to other big name test taking companies, like Kaplan, where I knew close friends who had taken prep classes.While their instructors were good, and enthusiastic, they did not have the passion for helping students that Ben has. This is Ben's own business, and he treats every student with respect, is willing to answer and entertain all questions, and go above and beyond in helping you out and making sure you are on the right path. My particular course was offered at my workplace, as we work in the legal field and there are many employees interested in preparing for law school and taking the LSAT. I received a small discount, but would have gladly paid the full price, as it was more than worth it - especially the support after the class was over. More on that later. The class lasted about 10 weeks, and we met for about 2.5 hrs/2x per week. That was the perfect length of time for someone like me, a f/t working professional. Ben maximized our time in the most efficient way possible. He begins with Logic Games, which is the area where most students can improve the most dramatically. And let me say this - without caveat - Ben is an INCREDIBLE Logic Games instructor. I actually found this part of the course to be the most helpful. LG can be extremely challenging and frustrating for people, especially if you have never done them before. Everything becomes easier over time, but the main thing, the MAIN thing I took away from this course, was how to set up Logic Games. Ben uses a very intuitive and easy to understand/remember coding system for writing down the Rules to each game, has plenty of tips for how to approach each style of game, and for improving in the games overall. I will not give them away here ;-) but let me say, I found them truly helpful. Both with calming the brain, and logically, coolly proceeding to solve each game in the best way possible. Note, this may not be the 'quickest' way at first, but if you adopt his approach and advice, you will speed up significantly with practice, and that's where his system really shines. It scales up nicely as one becomes more proficient with the games, and compared to other LG systems I knew and witnessed friends using first hand - it is far superior. Regarding Logical Reasoning, this is an area where there the students also have lots of room for improvement, but is not quite as 'learnable' as the LG, since there is not as clear of a 'system' as there is in the LG game setup. That said, Ben drills in you all the question types, and has a core strategy to teach you. Lets just say it starts with the 'main conclusion' and 'finding the flaw'. I found this method VERY HELPFUL, and it taught me how to think deeply about the LR questions. Importantly, as I improved, his strategy keeps working and demonstrates itself to be an excellent method for solving these and attempting to get in the test writer's head. Ben is truly an LSAT guru. Finally, I will say that after the course, I delayed taking the test for approx. 6 months while I studied 3 hrs/2x per week with a study partner. This is where I implemented all the techniques I learned from Ben's class. I stayed in email contact with Ben, asking him occasional questions and sharing my long term study plan with him. He advised me all along the way, even though the class was long over, continuing to provide advice and encouragement. I truly believe this is what sets Ben and his course apart from other 'big box' prep courses - you get individual advice from a teacher who genuinely cares about your success and will provide you with advice, and online materials and access to his systems even after the course is over. In conclusion, I will note my score improved dramatically, about 10 points from where I was scoring during my first 3 practice tests. I attribute this to my long slogging hours and hard work - however, all of that would have taken much, much longer and been far less effective if I didn't have all the training and knowledge provided by LSAT Strategy Prep. I took the 100-hr course, and was really happy with the materials and quality of instruction. The instructor was intelligent, prepared, positive, patient, and regularly available outside of class time. I definitely had the feeling that I was "in good hands". Another benefit - Strategy offers additional help including advice on receiving recommendation letters & critiques on personal statements. I STRONGLY recommend Strategy Test Prep.
