Here on a layover so only had today to find a place for a haircut. While the area has a lot of Barbershops, none of them had availability and also requiring appointments. They also charge an arm and a leg. Thankfully I found Props Barber Shop which accepts walk-ins and has very reasonable prices. Derrick took care of me today. He listened to what I was looking for and precisely gave me the haircut I was needing. I'll certainly be back to see him next time I need a haircut and I'm in town. Best barber shop in town. Avoid the hipster queues and support a local business with two men running shop. Unpretentious, plenty of parking and the proper amount for a good haircut. It's a cash-only spot so make sure you plan ahead before you come. They also sell sodas for one dollar. It's the place to sit in the chair, watch sports or a movie and have great banter while getting your wig trimmed. If you'd rather wait two hours for a guy named Elvin to cut your hair for $30, be my guest. Props is where it's at! read more

Gave this place roughly 5/6 opportunities over the last 6 months... unfortunately I left with more and more disappointment each visit. -Barbers do not wipe the hair off the chair after the person before you is done. -Barbers (I've been to all 3) can not cut a straight line to save their lives -Even after politely asking to fix and line-up my neck line during a routine beard trim, I left with a crooked neck line (Beard) (each visit mind you) -During a beard "trim" one barber takes my cheek line down an entire inch! -During that same beard trim the barber took my mustache line up 1/4 inch on one side and stayed in line with lip on the other side. -After every single visit I found myself cutting my own hair in my bathroom for another 15-20 minutes... EVERY VISIT! I really hate to post such a negative review but if you care about your haircut quality AT ALL I would not recommend going here. Probably great for our grandfather's ear and neck hair. Disclaimer: I am incredibly picky about how my hair gets cut. Asian hair isn't the easiest to cut. I am from California, here for school. I went to Props Barber Shop after reading the reviews on Yelp. My barber was Jeremy and he did a fantastic job at fixing my hair (my last stylist butchered my hair with a pair of texture scissors...) For $12, it was an excellent deal. Wait time was about 10 minutes -- not bad. The ambience was very fashionable and whimsical. I will definitely be back. So glad to have found a -- hopefully -- a reliable place to get a great haircut. Consistency is key, so I will update my review after a 2nd or 3rd cut. read more

SQUEEEEE!!! I am so happy with my hair that I HUGGED the barber before leaving! I moved here two years ago from Seattle and have had the worst time finding someone local to cut my hair. I either had to wait hours for a simple haircut or have a stylist tell me I "really don't want" my hair "cut like THAT," while proceeding to ignore my requests and cut what they felt was the best version of what I said to do. Being new and not knowing my hair - growth patterns, texture, etc. - that ALWAYS turned out bad. After hearing my complaints, a coworker recommended going to a barber. Made sense - I went to a barber in Tacoma for years before moving here. Now came the task of finding one who could cut women's hair and fade the back and sides in an appropriately feminine manner. I stopped by Props and talked to Chad and showed him photos of what I needed done. OMG - he ROCKED! This is the first time in two years I have found someone local who can cut and blend the sides and back of my super thick tresses into my crazy long mop on top that looks professional for work but can easily be funked up for fun. I grew up in a blue-collar family and always went to a neighborhood barber shop to get my hair cut. It never felt fancy, but the sense of family and belonging always kept me coming back. As an adult, I was never comfortable with the fancier barber shop experiences. My hair is short and I don't like to fuss much over it, and so the high end experiences always alienated me. I found Props in early 2016 and instantly fell in love with it. They do a great job with my somewhat challenging hair (cowlick + double crown), and I always like the way I look coming out of there. Jeff and his team are always friendly, have fun conversation, and most likely have a good movie going on the TV. (For my last visit, it was Jackie Brown.) At $14, haircuts are inexpensive and affordable. Props doesn't take appointments, but I've never found myself waiting for long. Saturdays tend to be the busiest day, as expected. They specialize in men's haircuts and beard trims, so perhaps not the place to go for women's haircuts. But they're my go-to place for my own hair, and I recommend them to any guys who are looking for an affordable, consistent haircut from a friendly group of folks. read more

This place has everything you want in a barbershop; great conversation (sports, current events and just good ol fashion guy talk). Unfortunately, most people don't get truly good haircuts. This phenomenon skews the reviews that these people leave for barbers who give said haircuts. And this is one of those places. After asking for a mid taper with a part, I got the age-old, "I don't know how to do that," shaved the same length on both sides. Scissors weren't even introduce and after about five minutes my time in the chair was complete. The result was something I could have probably done myself and alfalfa hairs in the back that didn't get touched. So, if you're looking for a completely mediocre haircut, you've found your place. Place did not cut my hair well at all. Showed him exactly what I was looking for on a photo, didn't match it at all. Barber paid more attention to the TV than to my head. Great cut, walked right in and sat down. This is an awesome little 2 chair barber shop just outside downtown. I've been to another place where you had to wait almost an hour for a cut, it was close to me but as I drove by today and saw the waiting room full I decided to give yelp a shot and see what else was avaliable. Props came up, great reviews and just a few minutes further away. I figured when I got there I would have to wait......but to my surprise I parked right out front (parking was a breeze) walked in and sat down. Jeff was ready and got to work. Quick with the Clippers I was finished up in about 15 minutes. Paid cash and was on my way. This was a great experience, Jeff was friendly and kept a good conversation. Not to mention the shop is in a old house on Frankfort ave. Plenty of parking without the hustle and bustle of bardstown rd. I was new to the area this past October and was looking for a new barber shop that wasn't main stream by any means. I wanted a local business that could supply a good cut for a good price. I waited til July until I found Props, and like always it was on yelp. I leaving just down the road from it and the guys there are awesome. Tim did great on chopping off my old wig and giving me a new style to be proud of instead of doing a quick buzz. They are really nice fellas in the shop and make you feel really welcomed. Wow...what a great surprise......old school barbershop.....with a knowledgeable guy to trim my beard. Went in scruffy having grown my beard several months.....asked him to clean it up...whatever he thought. ( wife was done with the scruff look).... Trimmed beard along with haircut and eyebrows. At 60 I seem to sprout hair everywhere but the top of my head. When finished I was trimmed, groomed and trendy befitting the 60. All with good conversation about barber's upcoming second son and the joy of parenthood. A place I immediately felt comfortable with...two younger more fashionable full bearded guys there when I was working with additional barber chairs . With current tattoos swept back haircuts and longer beards..They seemed happy with results as well so safe to say service the younger sets as well. I have gone to Props for about a year and a half. There are many things I like about it: the low-key atmosphere, the price, the friendly barbers. The issue I have had is that even after going for a year and half I cannot get a consistent haircut. I'll get a good one then two or three mediocre to bad ones.
