My husband was brought here after a long stay in the hospital. This facility is pretty worn out, frankly. The tvs in the rooms are on an arm by the bed and have about an 8-inch screen, and they look like they are from the 60's. The physical therapy seems good, and I hope his stay is on the shorter side. In the middle of the night, he had real trouble getting a response to his bell--he had wet himself and needed changing. The food is not the worst I have ever seen, thank goodness. So far, the staff seems good, and in this day and age, it is hard to find help and keep it! read more

I cannot state more plainly, do Not let your loved one go to Pruitt Brookhaven. The lack of care, compassion and overall communication is abhorrent. Our family was told not to call to check on family member when we were unable to reach him by phone. Many, many calls not returned by staff, case manager and social worker. My family member contracted covid while there and then the "care" just got worse. My family member got progressively worse while there. Please, do Not send your loved one go here. read more

My cousin had to go to rehab. His insurer approved Pruitt Rehab Brookhaven. I checked reviews and was a little skeptical. Well, that has gone away. This is an awesome facility! It's very clean, staff is outstanding and the food is excellent per my cousin. The staff said the facility was old but they try very hard to keep it clean. They are succeeding. This has to be one of the nastiest facilities i've ever seen. The rooms are old and poorly taken care of, and the cleaning staff makes no effort to minimize the AWFUL smell. Overall the residents are neglected and not taken care of well and often left to sit in soiled clothing for hours on end. read more

We were incredibly disappointed in Pruitt as they did not do the things they promised. My sister-in-law was supposed to be behaved but instead got covid , serious uti infection and was sent to northside hospital where she died 4 days later. It was a terrible experience. read more

The place is a death trap and they killed my mother! She was treated with complete disrespect and negligence. Administration lied and covered up things, lazy staff knew nothing, and nurse practitioner was the one that misdiagnosed what was wrong with my mother and my mother died a week later when they finally decided to put her in the hospital. read more

I am surprised by the low Yelp ratings for PruittHealth, Brookhaven. My 93 year old mother-in-law was admitted to their rehabilitation facility after falling and fracturing her pelvis. She was transferred to their long term care facility when it became apparent that she was no longer able to take care of herself. She passed away peacefully. We found both the rehab and long term care facilities to be comfortable, and the staff to be kind and caring. Having said that, bear in mind that by definition, these are places for the sick, infirm and aged, so it's no bundle of laughs. But we did find the quality of nursing and care to be very good indeed and the doctor assigned to her was wonderful. As others have mentioned, parking can be problematic, but on balance, and having seen other nursing homes, PruittHealth gets our 'thumbs up.' read more

My mother was a patient for over a year before passing last month. Pro's: Her entire care team was outstanding; they were all attentive to her needs and communicated regularly. My fully oriented, cognitively aware mother was placed at this facility due to its proximity to family and availability of beds for physical rehab after her somewhat unexpected discharge from Emory hospital over a Thanksgiving holiday. My mother feels that the physical therapy for strengthening and education on transfers was very good. However, the unresponsiveness of nursing staff, their almost complete lack of care and empathy as well as lack of nursing and observation skills was horrific. Also, the facility RARELY answered the phone or even assisted the patients in being able to communicate by phone with family. If the phone was answered, you were often hung up on or somehow disconnected. Of the 20 times that I dialed the facility I only had the calls answered 3 times. That is bizarre and unacceptable. Only one person over the several weeks was responsive to Mother's need for bathing or any kind of assistance for ADL's (activities of daily living). They left her in bed for 12-13 hours a day for over a week when she first entered and after that only assisted her in getting out of bed by 11 when pressed! They would not answer call bells. They actually verbally refused to assist her with position changes in bed when she was incapable of doing it herself which is dangerous for an elderly disabled weak person (thus the cough).That is NOT rehab. My mother had a cough and wheezing but could not get an already ordered PRN medication from staff. She had the cough for a week before anyone even examined her for it. It took over 24 hours for a desperately needed bowel movement intervention (she was already on a softener but needed more). The nursing staff is not trained in rehabilitation techniques for reinforcement of the therapist's education. I doubt that any of them are certified in rehab or that corporate offers any special training or incentives for education. Why the staff as human beings do not care at all about the patient's or their careers only speaks to corporate's not caring about anything other than profit & bottom-line. This is not healthcare. Staff is not held accountable for their inadequacies and deficiencies. Staff is not trained nor is there an expectation of service and care to the patient despite this being for-profit. We checked other facilities in the Atlanta area but they were either full or just as bad. Education and accountability amongst healthcare personnel are not easily found in Atlanta, from my experience. Staff seem to put in time at a slow unthinking pace until the end of their shift. Family must be at bedside for safety and to assure patient monitored and needs met. The facility is not set up for anyone with disabilities in the rooms. The patients' rooms and bathrooms are too small for wheelchair maneuverability or patient access to a bedside stand for storage. It is not a cheery place in design nor in the lackluster old equipment and furniture in the patient common areas and rooms. They lost or stole Mom's glasses. My mother insisted on staying as long as she did rather then getting out-patient therapy because she felt that she would benefit more from the inpatient and genuinely liked PT. In the early days of her stay here she was so bed-bound and dependent on careless staff that it was scary. She did feel that she was gambling with her health and most certainly had much discomfort from neglect. She finally rose up and advocated for herself but that didn't help lack of staff response or the poor physical state of the facility. Since she is of sound mind we had to listen to her wishes because to stay as long as she did because she definitely needed strengthening to regain her independence. I have no idea what happens to someone who is cognitively unaware or perhaps aphasic after a stroke.The nursing care here is close to non-existent and the staff appears to not 'care' at all. Please don't take a chance on your loved one's future quality of life by using this place unless you can be bedside for hours at a time or your loved one can advocate loudly for themselves. Most older people submit. Oh, apparently the food isn't too bad. read more

We had an appointment today for an evaluated by an OT. The appointment was between 10:30 - 11:30am. At 11:40, I contacted the OT, and she said she was 15 minutes away in traffic...mid-morning. I don't think so. I didn't receive a call saying she would be late. This is poor professionalism and patient care and a lack of respect for patient's time. Frist impressions are everlasting. Awful and incompetent. Couldn't find test orders for UTI including blood panel that were taken the day before (Friday am) No results found or any clue if the tests had even been done. Since it's now Saturday, told to wait till Monday. "Nothing gets done on the weekend" staffer in charge said. Told me that I needed to educate myself on how things worked there. Run! read more

Wrote a review of my first impressions 4-5 weeks ago. It has only gotten much worse for my mother. In fact, it's terrible. But she can't escape because she keeps getting sick or sicker. I pray she makes it out alive. We would snatch her out of there so quick if it wasn't for some logistical issues. read more

My mom Annie was place at this facility for rehab after having a stroke. Some of the employees were nice and attentive but others were nasty and rude. My mom was on high blood pressure meds and they were feeding my mom Potatoe chips and bacon, food that she should not been eating. They took their sweet time changing my mom's diaper. On my mom's last day, she was discharged, she was talking. The next day my had another stroke that left her unable to talk, chew and swallow her food. My mom had to be rushed to the hospital. Prior to that, Pruitt stated that they accidently threw my mom's medication away and lost her dentures. I believe that my mom had that second stroke because she wasn't given her medication and they were feeding her foods that she wasn't supposed to have. Sorry to say that my mom never recovered and past away. We were a constant present, visiting almost everyday just to make sure our mom would not be mistreated. This place should be shut down. read more

This is the first we have had a family member here. We have had several friends here. For them, the services were ok according to their grandchildren. Our family member needs one extra thing done for their care. Most of the time, he gets it done. Twice a week, he doesn't. The family has to step in and make the request for the umpteenth time. This extra step keeps him out of the hospital. It takes 5 minutes and is not difficult. As every healthcare facility I have ever been in, there is a shortage of Nursing Personnel here. The daytime CNAs and other Nursing Personnel are far more responsive than the night time personnel. I'm here every night and the bells go unanswered for 5 - 10 minutes at a time at night. I've timed them. I listen and watch. I'm fortunate I can be here in the evening to make sure our father isn't ignored. If the personnel were doing something meaningful to help someone, I would understand. Being on Facebook however is not meaningful when an emergency light is going on for several minutes. There is no valid reason for call lights to be ignored so regularly except for other medical emergencies which are being attended to. I realize it is impossible for all emergencies to be attended to at all times. Would I recommend Pruitt to others? If the patient has visitors or private nursing care around the clock to monitor the patient care activities, then yes I would. These patients need an advocate. I wish I could rate PT and OT separately from the night personnel. They deserve five stars. Our father has gained a great deal of strength in the few months he has been here. He is better than we expected. They encourage him and work with him so much, he will be home sooner rather than later. The front office personnel and social worker (Toni) also rate five stars. They get it when it comes to patient's varying attitudes and moods when they want to be at home. I wish I could give the entire facility five stars, but I can't. Too many bells are going unanswered. Patients deserve better. Pruitt is paid several thousand per month per patient. Lack of responsible personnel should not be an issue. read more

I am a 63 year old female who went through a near death oardeal about 6 weeks ago. Kaiser discharged me from Emory hospital where I was receiving very good care and the Kaiser caseworker threatened me literally into going to hellhole Brookhaven for "rehab". From the time thee ambulance dumped e there, I wanted out. These No one came in to me for almost 2 hours. I just laid there calling Kaiser. There are no caregivers in this place-especially bad at night. You can ring the buzzer and maybe an hour later someone who is pissed off will poke their fzce in. I had to literally beg for water. My kidneys had completely shut down 3 weeks prior and so I was instructed to drink lots of water. They are getting away with even more murder now because families can't come in to see what is going on. In left the real hospital with a very bad wound on my left side and I was promised wound carew. That did n ot happen. I got Bentadine and a piece of guze 2x in 2 weeks. Kaiser didn't send a nurse out for another week after I went home and, as a result, I ended up with a very deep, bad infection that required re-hospitialization and sugery and another week at Emory!! They also have people with mental problems in there that they ignore. From the time I got there, a woman 3 doors down yelled constantly, day and all night about needing help;. She just wanted attention but she kept us all awake. Two days later, instead of moving me as promised, they put a mentally ill woman in my room who talked about suicide and made constant demands to call various police departments. She kept me up all night. They put her in with me because shew was fighting all week with her mentally ill roomma te. The food is horrendous. I'm a diabetic and they gave me a large Danish and a large glass of juice every morning. I told them I can't eat fish and one night the dinner was salmon patty and I asked for a cheese sandwich and got a tuna fish sandwich. I did not eat that night and I''m a diabetic taking insulin. The "nursing" staff is horrible and uncaring!! They yell at you if you dare ask for wster or something else. Everything except idle chitchat with each other irritates them to death. DO NOT put your family member in there!! I got a very serious and deep infection because of them! Stay away!! . read more

Mostly an unpleasant experience. Right hand doesn't seem to know what left hand is doing there. Very noisy 24/7 - yelling, laughing, doors slamming at all hours. Physical therapy was not tailored to fit my specific needs - having MS & lumbar spinal stenosis - I was put in situations I would never have put myself in even before I came to rehab....being jerked up by a waist belt causing me severe back pain. One PT in particular telling me to stop the drama and to stop making excuses. She was not exactly a model of positive reinforcement! Manny and Michelle were helpful the few times I saw them. The most positive thing I have to say is that I was able to get both Covid vaccines while i was there. read more

I have been in health care for over 20 years and was surprised and disheartened at the care my family member received. The staff is lazy and many seem barely competent. They routinely ignore the patients and their families and spend much of the day sitting at the nurse's station chatting. Nurse call buttons were often ignored, sometimes for several hours, even though the patient room number was displayed at the station. Worse, "out of bed" alarms that ring when a patient gets out of bed or their wheel chair when they shouldn't were also ignored. I myself helped a patient off the floor and back into her chair when her alarm had been ringing for almost 20 minutes. My mother spent six weeks at Pruitt undergoing rehab and either I or one other family member visited every day. Not once, I repeat, not once, did any staff member acknowledge us, say hello, offer unsolicited updates on our mother's condition or ask if there was anything they could help us with. They were at best indifferent but more often nasty and rude to both the patients and visitors. The food is poor, was never hot and was dropped on the table or bed tray "as is"; the "warming" covers often not removed and the sealed items like juice and milk rarely opened, even for patients that could not do it for themselves. Although they ask that a menu request be filled out daily for the patients, on several occasions the wrong food was brought and, despite requests for adjustment, the correct meal never arrived. Phone calls to the professional staff and managers were often not taken which I understand. People are busy. However, despite leaving messages, return calls were rarely done leaving family to recall multiple times. Perhaps most distressing is the fact that on two occasions that I personally witnessed, the wrong medication was administered to my mother. I could say more but you have the idea. Please consider an alternate facility for your loved ones if at all possible. read more

I would title this review "Run - don't walk" to another facility. My brother was here for over a month. I live out of state and had to choose a facility from the list the hospital gave me. I selected the one closest to his house so that friends could visit him easily. Being disappointed by the reports I was getting is putting it mildly. One friend called me in tears about the conditions in the room he was in. She left a card for him on his nightstand and it disappeared within a day or so. I brought a card from our mother who is quite elderly and that card also disappeared. He was actually quite distressed that he couldn't find it and asked about it for the next few days. Beyond that, beware that any medical device the patient comes in with is considered "personal property" no matter how integral to the patient's health or how expensive it may be. If they lose it, they are not liable. If I had known that ahead of time, I would have made provision for the device to be housed elsewhere though how he would have done rehab without it is beyond me. Overall, I did not feel the care he received at PruittHealth Brookhaven was aiding in his rehabilitation and I was almost relieved when they decided they would discharge him. The only upside - there was one nurse and one physical therapist that seemed to care about him personally. Those two made a bad situation a little brighter. read more
