I am extremely disappointed in my experience with St Augustine Plantation Assisted Living. I posted…read moretwo weeks ago about pulling the emergency cord for a nurse and 55 minutes later someone came into Mom's room to check on her trash....who finally alerted the nurse. My sweet mom passed away a week ago today. Last weekend my family and I were told to take what we wanted out of Mom's room and leave the rest, and to place any garbage in the hall and they would take care of it. On Monday we were told by Meagan that the weekend staff did not know what they were talking about and we had to clear the room out. Pretty upsetting that the weekend staff "doesn't know what they were talking about" as Meagan said. I am just now leaving my mother's room. All the trash we were told to put on the hall was pushed back into her room. They took the soiled sheets off of my mother's bed and left them on the floor for me to take care of. While I was in the room a staff person came in to take her cable box. I told them how disappointed I was that after my mother lived here 9 YEARS they stopped with housekeeping the moment she died. Please keep in mind that we have paid for the room thru the end of the month. To add insult to injury I was told we could not use their trash dumpster. If you are looking at placing your loved one at St. Augustine Plantation please contact me first. It has been a horrible experience.

If I could give zero stars, I would. My grandmother lived here for roughly 9 years. The staff has…read moremaybe 2 good people there. Megan, the manager, goes back on any word she gives and is a liar. Please do not send your loved ones here. My grandmother passed away a week ago yesterday, I know she's in a better place. But the way the staff dealt with my mom and my aunts is disturbing. Throwing her dirty sheets on the floor for my mom to clean up. Taking her trash back into her room for my mom to clean up AND told my mom she isn't able to use their dumpster because the "kitchen" may need it at some point. Fucking ridiculous. You all should be ashamed of yourself. NO compassion for the family members and their loss. Megan, should be fired.

Parking is free and there are several restaurants in the area. The rooms are large and comfortable with cable tv and plenty of seating. The chairs fold into beds if you want to sleep over. My loved one had a private room and restroom with a shower. It's more peaceful than a hospital. There are fresh flowers and hummingbird feeders outside the windows. Watching birds compete with a squirrel for food was a welcome distraction. Unfortunately, the main gazebo was occupied by a smoker. But there are quiet places including a reflection room with a guitar you can borrow and outdoor seating throughout the space. A musician came by and sang to my loved one. Volunteers will occasionally relieve you if you don't want to leave your person alone. A church left a basket of snacks & beverages for the staff and visitors. There's a kitchen area with a full-size fridge, microwave and plastic utensils so you can bring or reheat meals. My loved one was regularly bathed and cared for. But it was difficult for me to grasp that patients aren't encouraged to drink water or do anything that will prolong life. The goal of hospice is to prioritize the patient's comfort and dignity and to support the family. The staff is accessible and caring with one exception. The first nurse I met was miffed when I asked about how often my loved one would be turned to prevent bedsores. But you have to advocate if they can't speak for themselves. Overall, I wish my loved one could have gone to BBH when there was still time to appreciate the surroundings. I recommend Big Bend and I hope this review makes your decision easier. Hugs!

And during the final year (first in assisted living and then memory care) the staff consistently went far above any basic requirements of their jobs. They greatly exceeded my expectations! I only live a mile from there, was in the facility several times each week, and had ample opportunity to see these people at work. ALL of them were outstanding! In particular, I give special thanks to Director of Nursing Asya Williams and Director of Memory Care Danielle Cooper and to their teams for all they did, especially as failing health made Ede's life more challenging. When the time comes, I hope I can live in a place as nice as this. I commend them, and I recommend them. Prospective residents will have a hard time finding anything better in this very competitive market.

He loves the chef prepared meals, companionship and activities that keep him vital. His assisted living apartment is spacious with 10' high ceilings, has a full size kitchen and refrigerator along with pretty granite countertops that is the same size as independent living apartments w/o the dishwasher or range. The larger kitchen space makes it feel more like a home and you can with plenty of counter space for a coffee pot, toaster oven etc. From his apartment my Dad loves seeing who's coming and going throughout the day and the beautiful evening sunsets. There's enough room for a full size sofa and recliner along with barstools at the bar...plenty of space for a family gathering. The bedroom easily fits a queen size bed and the built in washer and dryer are super convenient even though they will clean and do laundry regularly as you wish. The lobby is quite grand and opens to the second story balcony, there are four large chairs grouped around a fireplace where residents enjoy sitting, visiting, and greeting throughout the day. The whole building is state of the art and professionally decorated. The dining room is beautiful, the bistro has quartz countertops and is open and bright. The sizable bar area has sliding glass doors that open to a large covered patio overlooking green space that serves as a small putting green or game of croquet AND a fire pit! In another area, there is a large open air atrium with a beautiful water fountain with comfy chairs to relax and enjoy. They have happy hour every Friday before dinner, games and activities are planned throughout the day, movie night is every night at 6:30, my Dad's favorite activity is the acrylic painting class held weekly by an award wining teacher, Debbie Gaedke. They bring in entertainment regularly and use any excuse to have a party. 2019 we had our Christmas dinner at The Grove and it felt like the old days when we had our own large family gatherings. We always look forward to meals by Chef Dean. There's a small dog park that is a fenced in area w/o much for the dogs to do, I would love to see a couple of trees and/or shrubs planted to give the dogs a place to do their business in private or sniff around. There is a bench but during the summer it's too hot without a cover. That said, we are VERY happy they allow dogs!! Thinking of moving to the Grove? Tell them if my review helped, I love sending people their way as they are the best act in town. I have to add that the administrator has been there almost since they opened their doors and takes the time to touch base with family's and get to know her residents. We appreciate Crystal!
