My normal doctor wasn't able to fit me in before I left on vacation so I tried calling around the area to find someone who could. This place was the first to agree to accept an appointment within the same week, and from the service I experienced, now I understand why they aren't seeing a lot of business. The receptionist I spoke with was very cordial; she took my insurance info, told me she wasn't able to match me with a doctor of the preferred sex on short notice (which was understandable), and said I'd be meeting with "Ed." The day before my appointment I got a call saying, oops, they don't accept my insurance after all. I felt pressured the cancel the appointment. When I told them I'd be keeping it after all because there was no way I could find someone else less than a week before I went abroad, they sounded incredulous. On the day of my appointment I showed up 15 minutes early. I waited more than half an hour to be checked in. When they finally called me up front, they asked what day I'd like to schedule my psychiatrist appointment. Perplexed, I said that was what I was there to do that day -- see Dr. Ed. They explained Ed isn't a doctor; he's an intake specialist, and that the doctor would not be willing to see me without an orientation with Ed first. Would've been nice to know before I committed to an appointment, took off work to come, and waited for half an hour. If I saw the intake specialist that day, I could come back in for a real appointment next week sometime. This would, of course, cost me twice as much (off of insurance) since it was two separate sessions. When I asked them reasonably to be flexible being that 1) I was never informed of any of this and 2) was leaving the country that week, the receptionist (a different one) became highly defensive and claimed whoever made the appointment would have properly informed me of their process. When I respectfully disagreed, she accused me of being deaf. I asked to see an office supervisor and she shut the window in my face. I left unsure of whether the preliminary appointment was still on. My experience can't be an anomaly; they seem to have the process of strong-arming new patients into attending multiple appointments fine-tuned. I cant speak to the quality of their doctors because I was never actually allowed to see one. This place is a racket and is staffed by the rudest people. Would not recommend wasting your time at an office where the people working there seem to need help more than the patients.

She did it anyways (upped the amount of times & dosage) even though it was a little suspicious AS SHE TOLD ME,after while she wanted to question me about how I'm trying to say 60 mg is too much for him,asking me am I a provider or a prescriber because she knew she was wrong and overdosed him With no testing as he told me. 60 mg of Adderall and only seen him for a month or so is extremely too much! She was starting to get rude at the end because she thought I didn't know what I was talking about not knowing iam a medical assistant!! wouldn't recommend. Will be contacting the board about this and how she questioned me with an attitude with no concern for her patient.

She was very fearful and exceptionally good at avoiding the part that terrified her - namely defecating in the toilet. We'd tried educating her, rewarding/bribing per, praising her, talking about it and not talking about it. NOTHING had worked at all. Her pediatrician didn't have any answers either. I read everything I could find online but none of the strategies worked. Then I met with the wonderful Dr. Lakin. He asked a lot of questions about our history with potty training but also questions about our daughter in general to better understand her personality and behaviors. He suggested a new consequence and a new reinforcement for us and I kid you not - it worked within 24 hours. Within days, it was like she'd never been afraid and the prior 9 months had never happened. We couldn't be more grateful for Dr. Lakin's professional insights. After the toilet issue was resolved, we started looking at our parenting struggles differently in light of his advice and CBT blog posts (e.g. daughter getting out of bed too early in the AM, and not eating vegetables). Looking at things from a behaviorist perspective has shifted our parenting strategies and we've been much more successful mitigating the examples above. I will definitely call Dr. Lakin again the next time we get stuck! We give him our very highest recommendation!

I was 14 when my mom got recommended Dr. Lakin to help me with my server depression. When I first went to him, I was so hopeless and did not believe that I could be helped. After seeing him for about 2 and half years and can fully say that Dr. Lakin saved my life. I saw him when he worked in DBT and CBT therapy. I was a little skeptical about his exposure therapy because it was outside my comfort zone, but Dr. Lakin helped me through the process. He is so open and honest with you, and that is something I admired so much about him.It was not your traditional therapy. We would go on walks and do the most random activities. I did not understand this, but it was all part of the process and it was so helpful. When I first started seeing him, I did not want to go, but after a couple months of sessions, his office became my safe place for 2 years. He ended moving away from my hometown so unfortunately, I could not see him anymore, and I have not seen anyone since him, but because of Dr. Lakin, I can go through life, with the skills I need for my depression and anxiety. I am now 18 and at a very good college, and when I first came to Dr. Lakin I never went to school, because of how miserable I was. Although I have not seen Dr. Lakin in almost 2 years, I would not of graduated from high school or gotten into college without him. She failed to take responsibility for her actions and instead had a sarcastic comment about how "we are all human" and frantically tried to figure out who we were without taking any time. Joselyn Vazquez did not value our time. I'm fortunate that my husband buys into therapy and that we will be able to find another therapist, but if your partner is on the fence this unethical treatment can end your marriage. Furthermore, when she did start to "remember" things they were incorrect and she did not complete any housekeeping the first session as we could not join from two different locations (which only happened because she scheduled us on a different date than what we agreed upon in our first session). I reached out to the office. The only communication we have received is asking if we want to reschedule with another therapist. No accountability or action. I have waited a week and a half to hear back.

His investment in getting paid became a huge issue in my treatment. He ended therapy when I was robbed of my life savings. He was also unable to make the agreement with me that we never discuss the financial aspect of treatment. He stated this is part of private practice. I disagreed. In trying to find out about a drug prescribed for me by one of the other counselors, I hit a brick wall. Twice I have had a prescription refused by my insurance provider. I have tried to resolve this asking if there is a different Rx the insurance might approve as I can't afford the large out of pocket expense. The counselor who prescribed these is either not in or will not return calls. The office staff person who said she would call back did not call and is not in, nor will the other staff member assist me. She said "I don't want to get involved." It's never a good sign when a mental health agency destroys your mental health with its poor behavior. In addition, the prescribing counselor also ordered a drug that we had just agreed I would stop taking. I had no way to stop the order or to reach the counselor. I had to pay for something I no longer can use. Benhaven Counseling is becoming increasingly useless.
