I work best with strategies and tools; with Dr. Maccarin, I just shared my trauma and while she would reaffirm me - we never delved deeper into how it affects me today and what I can do to fix it. Additionally, she would tell me multiple times that she thought I might have a different disorder/illness, but then tell me it wasn't a formal diagnosis and give me no steps to get diagnosed. In our last session, I was extremely emotionally overwhelmed as I am going through a big life change right now. Because my mood did not match an email I had sent the night prior, one that I wrote over a period of time, when I was much calmer from not recounting the life change to my therapist, and was an agenda of things I wanted to address so I would not get sidetracked by my emotions - Dr. Maccarin suggested with just two minutes left in the session that I was bipolar. This was unprofessional and unfair. If you want to spend a chunk of money for someone to listen to your history and offer no suggestions, Dr. Maccarin is the way to go. But, if you want someone to listen to you and help you build a better life through strategies and guidance, please please work with someone else.

"There" is bringing her the stories and thoughts that I don't share with my friends or family. "There" is living out an on-going grieving process for my father, ambitions for my life, disappointment in relationships, stresses in career, existential angst about death, etc. And when I'm "there", Clare is walking me through it all with no judgment, and riding my emotions alongside me. Once I'm done getting it all out, she'll help me unpack the message and we'll come back from "there" to "here", together. "Here" is where Clare encourages me to be, even when I don't want to believe it. "Here" is where I'm compassionate to myself, others and living in flow. Her father and I were overwhelmed with all the programs out there and didn't know where to start. Enter Jennifer. She spoke to us about our daughter's needs and struggles, along with our thoughts on what kind of program might be a good fit. Then she coordinated with the Wilderness program to speak to our daughter directly, asking similar questions, to really get a feel for where she's at and what she could handle after. Jennifer asked a lot of thoughtful questions to get a complete picture of our daughter and her challenges. Jennifer then hit the ground running and used the info collected and researched what programs could potentially work. She presented three options, all different and each with their own strengths. She set up calls with each of the programs so we (including our daughter) could talk to them and get a feel for what they could offer. The program we decided on (where my daughter is currently) has been wonderful. Just a few weeks ago my daughter said, "Mom! I haven't felt this good in years! I'm excited and hopeful about my future. I'm proud of all the work I've done. I'm ready to do the adulting things, even though they still scare me." I cried joyful tears. Jennifer was instrumental in helping us navigate the seemingly impossible and daunting sea of mental and behavioral health programs. Thanks to her, we are on a great course. Jennifer has been there for us when we truly needed it most. We were told by our child's therapist…read morethat they were at risk and needed an intervention. We met with Jennifer on a Friday and on Sunday, were still mulling over options, it was determined that our child needed immediate help. We texted Jennifer and she leapt into action. Within a few hours she had options for us and guided us every step of the way. She has continued to be there for us through two subsequent placements, and always keeps the kids she's charged with helping at the center of her focus. She has been on weekly calls with us at for the first few months of our child's treatment and continually assesses the programs they're in for fit. She is extremely knowledgeable about and well-connected with programs all over the country and has been a tremendous resource for us. We absolutely could not have figured out this complicated process on our own. Having Jennifer by our side has been truly lifesaving for our child.
