I am NOT a fitness freak and often make excuses to be active, so it's saying a lot that I go out of my way to do this. Josh and Tim are amazing! My husband and I trained with them a few years ago after being totally sedentary. I had gained a ton of weight in med school and felt like a blob. Besides losing over thirty pounds in a year working out three to four times a week, I also gained muscle (but not in the unfeminine way that I was thinking I would), strength, and confidence. All I had to do was show up and do what they told me, which was a mix of strength training, flexibility, and cardio. Seriously, I went from not being able to do a 'real' push-up to being able to do over a hundred in a minute after about a year, which was super amazing for me. I like that both Josh and Tim will push you to your limits and give you a really good workout but won't yell at you, judge you, or make you feel bad about yourself. (I'm sure they can yell at you if you want them to, but that doesn't work for me). Their workouts are efficient, always changing, and challenging. They also teach you great form while doing different exercises (with or without equipment), and other trainers I've worked with after them have commented on my form and being taught well. Finally, they can also give you nutrition advice if you want it. Besides all this fitness stuff, they are also just great guys to hang out with and talk to, and you can tell that they are really passionate about their jobs. Do yourself a favor if you want to lose weight or get in shape and check them out for a few months. They have a fitness assessment when you start that can help you track your progress. You'll be amazed at what can happen over a few weeks!

Who wants to be physically vulnerable to someone you don't care for or trust? I've been training with Josh at Infinite Iron for a few years now, and a large part of that has to do with how he works with me: he's great! I'm not someone who responds particularly well to yelling--I want to do whatever it is set in front of me, but occasionally I need help with keeping count and remembering what's next. Josh is highly observant and picked up on that pretty quickly, with no yelling along the way. He's pretty easygoing to start. I've also had the chance to observe him work with many different kinds of people, old and young, and he modifies his style as necessary. If yelling's your thing, he can accommodate. He's also well-versed in nutrition and continuously modifies what we do. When I first started, I had different goals than I do now, and he takes that into account. We've done a variety of exercises using all sorts of things, and just when I think I've experienced it all, he comes up with something new. He's also motivating when it comes to accountability. Initially, I only planned to stay a few months to learn things and then continue on my own, but I realized training with him several mornings a week was a large part of the success of the rest of my day. Terry is like no other trainer, he watches you like a hawk to make sure your form is good and you don't get hurt. Something I don't see other trainers doing. He records your progress each time and has an incredible knowledge of the human body and nutrition. He's also a fun guy, so the hour of my training goes by fast. I can't say enough good things about this place. I am 49 and am in the best shape I have been in since 30, I am 2 times stronger than I was a year and a half ago.

See: going to a random yoga drop in and the instructor throwing out pose names without any guidance and me covertly seeing how my neighbor is bending. Thankfully, Body Garage is the opposite of that. The classes have great descriptions for what the workout entails, and each instructor that I have taken classes with has explained every exercise with detail and is great at meeting people at whatever level they are at. Really diverse classes too in terms of age and fitness levels, so you don't feel like you're working out in a class of pro athletes. It's easy to book classes online and there are lots of time slots to work with everyone's schedules. Also Terra, the owner, is just a fantastic human being. Her classes are my favorite to attend!

DBG is a great neighborhood gym. Don't let the exterior fool you--there really is no indication…read morethat this in fact a gym and not a car body garage. I am probably not the only person who has sat in their car outside triple-checking the address to make sure I was in the right spot. DBG has a variety of classes that are all a play on car-mechanic terms (e.g. Full Throttle, High Octane, Suspension). The classes vary in length and cater to the different needs and goals of the clients. For instance, there is a class called Firebirds whose description starts "Bring your stroller & let's get moving Mamas!" which mentions movement but also community. Though I will never attend this class, I am glad the local mothers are able to work out and build community. Tune-up is the class that I have attended and it fits in with what I need: it's usually at noon during the week and it an intense 30 min full body workout. The gym does have pretty good central air so if you get a spot right under a vent and in front of a fan, you can make it through this class in the height of summer without dying. DBG also does community events and various free workouts and happy hours that they post on their social media if you want to try them out in a no commitment way. I got an introductory priced class pass, that I found on the MindBody app and when that runs out, I will buy regularly-priced punch card, though they also have monthly membership and drop-in rates too. He was able to address concerns with my neck and spine movements, and helped me gain basic movements back after realizing they were lacking. The process was supportive and therapeutic. The place is equipped with everything possible for healing and recovery through Pilates-based methods. Highly recommend Ron and the instructors here, especially if you are in recovery or heading back into movement after some time off. They are kind and caring, and make you feel comfortable despite any limitations.

He showed me the machine before class started, how it worked, and how to use it. He was very kind and informative. During the class, he gave clear instructions and assisted as needed. It ended up being quite the workout! I'm really glad I came and tried it out. The prices are a little steep to be attending frequently, but I'm definitely interested in taking drop-in classes in the future.
