After I moved to St. Petersburg, my Rheumatologist recommended Dr. Bolhofner (she indicated he was the surgeon the physicians go to). Surgery was without any incidents, I was up and walking the day of surgery, and have kept walking ever since. No problems, no complications. Great surgeon, good office staff (I never waited more than 10 min). Minor warning, Dr. Bolhofner has a slightly dry sense of humor (then, he IS a surgeon)!

He always checks on you after the procedure while in the Hospital and has you come in within 3 days to office for another post op check. Even if I moved away, I would always come back to this office if I should have a orthopedic need. He is very busy but getting an appointment is easy and usually not a very long wait to be seen.

I called and gave my insurance and told scheduler that I experienced a hamstring tear. The woman on the phone said she couldn't make it at the location I requested because they don't treat hamstrings and so she made an appointment with a physician in South Pasadena. I waited for this appointment and was in a lot of pain. I showed up they took me back and gave me several x-rays without saying one word. First of all, I hate x-rays and I hate getting irradiated for any reason. So I was really angry to find out the x-rays were of my spine not my hamstring and they didn't even bother asking why I was there!! Or telling me what they were doing!!! I assumed they had my appointment info. (Will they charge for these??? We'll see) The second thing I wanted to say is that I switched my claim to Workmen's Comp. I had to deal with bcunning@floridaortho.com. He is the worst. VERY rough manner and no one including even his own staff members can get a hold of him when they need something. So good luck trying to schedule something if you're on Workmen's Comp and you are in pain. I'm sure the doctors are great, but I can't see myself having to deal with him or any other incompetence moving forward. And now I lost an entire week.

And when I'm there I witness it with all patients who are there. When you make your appointment only make it with Dr. Fura, he is the only doctor I trust with my spine and shoulder (My whole spine, neck to sacrum). I've seen 4 doctors there and he is the only doctor who listens and cares about not only getting you better but making you comfortable and doing what's best for you and won't push things on you that you aren't comfortable with. He is not only an amazing doctor but under his coat is a kind and understanding person who genuinely cares about you. If you have spine issues, shoulder issues etc GO TO DR. FURA!! The doctors at St Anthony hospital (IMO the worst hospital in the Tampa Bay/St Petersburg area) decided not to operate because at 90 her bones won't heal. They are going to go with what they call "bag of bones" and just let it heal on its own. Dr Heitner at All Florida explained the reasons they decided to go with that route. Mostly because mom hates Doctors and hospitals and won't do therapy or take pain pills, but complains of the pain and discomfort constantly. She is the worst patient in the world.

I was led to believe they were affiliated with Florida orthopedic! The assistant Roberto Gonzalez was the one who evaluated my foot and predictably ordered physical therapy! I told him I had already done that! I had already ordered $400 custom orthotics! I had already had injections, in fact too many! The doctor just rubber stamped what Gonzalez's eval determined! I told him it was causing back and knee pain but I wanted to be seen in Tampa! Someone then came in with an appointment in Plant City ! Today was my last day of physical therapy at BayLife and the experience was fantastic. Injured my…read morelower back at the gym and ended up with 2 herniated discs and significantly limited mobility. As an active person, the limitations and pain caused by the injury was more then a bit frustrating. I chose BayLife based on the incredible reviews online (and that they took my insurance). I'm happy to say that the yelpers and google reviewers out there knew what they were talking about. I met with Dr. Ben Mauer twice a week for 18 weeks. I didn't want surgery or any cortisone shots if I could avoid it. Everything I heard was the herniations would heal with time and rest, but I didn't just want to heal, I want to avoid a relapse. Ben knew from the get-go what my issue was (hip mobility, if you can believe it), and he put me right to work on improving hip strength and mobility and core strength and stability. I was definitely skeptical - why would my hips have anything to do with my back - but the more work we did on my hips and core, the better I started feeling. We spent a lot of time going over different exercises and stretches, and of course, a home routine to supplement the work. He also helped a ton with my form for squats, deadlifts, and rows, all to ensure my core was braced, my back was neutral, and I learned where my limits were so as not to overload my back or put it in a bad position. Whereas I had no confidence in my ability to do those exercises again without injuring myself, I am now comfortable doing all of those exercises (with modifications suggested by Ben) and am slowly starting to load up on the weight again. I can't think of enough great things to say. Dr. Mauer is patient, detail oriented, and you can tell he truly cares about his patients and gets excited for and enjoys their successes. With the exception of my fiance, I felt like Ben was my biggest cheerleader to improve. If you have any muscle or joint pain or any injuries that you or your doctor think would benefit from physical therapy, this is the place you need to go.
